Athletic Banquet of Champions

Invitations for the 2nd Annual SCIAA Winter & Spring Banquet were sent out in Board Mail Tues-day. All packets were sent to the attention of the Athletic Director. Included were individual invita-tions for all scholar athletes and SCIAA Championship Most Valua-

ble Players, Team invitations addressed to the Championship Coaches, and complimentary tickets for school administration. RSVP’s are due by May 1st and tickets will be sent back out to the school in board mail to the attention of the Athletic Director.

Banquet Invitations in the Mail

The SCIAA High School Baseball and Softball Championships will take place Friday, April 24th at Tobey Park. Baseball games will be played on Tobey Legion Baseball Field beginning at 3:30 pm. Softball games will be played on Tobey Fields 2, 3, and 4 starting at 5:30 pm. Bring the family out to enjoy great afternoon of baseball and softball. Rain date is April 25th.

High School Baseball & Softball Championships

The SCIAA has partnered with The City of Memphis Parks & Neighborhoods-Athletics to offer a Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, & Run Competition. This is a free event offered in four age groups 7/8, 9/10, 11/12, and 13/14 and is open to both boys and girls. Entry forms are included on pag-es 3 and 4 of the newsletter or on www.sciaa.digitalsports.com. Major League Baseball® PITCH, HIT & RUN provides™ youngsters across the country an opportuni-ty to participate in an exciting baseball/softball skills competi-tion. This national initiative gives

boys and girls, ages 7 - 14, the chance to showcase their pitch-ing, hitting and running abilities. Boys and girls compete sepa-rately. Major League Baseball® PITCH, HIT & RUN™ is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the “FUN” ele-ment of baseball/softball. Since there is NO registration fee, eve-ryone has the opportunity to participate. Major League Base-ball® PITCH, HIT & RUN™ tests three of the most fundamental aspects of baseball/softball - pitching, hitting and running. PITCH: Participant is tested throwing strikes to a designated

MLB Pitch, Hit, and Run Competition “Strike Zone” target. HIT: Participant hits a ball off a stationary tee for distance and accuracy. RUN: Partici-pant is timed, starting from second base, touching third then touching home plate. All of the events are individually scored and converted to a total point score through the use of conversion tables.

Antonio Johnson-Farrar from German-town High School is our athlete Spotlight this month. Just a few

days ago, this freshman tennis player became a local hero. On the way to catch his school bus at 6:30 am, he found an elder who had fallen. He tried to help her up but she said it hurt too much. Using his first aid train-ing, Antonio called 911 and stayed with her for about 1 hour until the ambulance arrived,

even though it meant he would miss his bus to school. We are so proud of this young man's kindness and compas-sion for a stranger. Here at the SCIAA we expect our student athletes to be leaders and we celebrate the good citizens of
