School stabbings – (Sanna Jokinen 2014)

● School stabbings have cultural features.

For example:

● Finland: Long history: “Puukko” culture: revenge.

● China: Made by desperate adults. Sosio-economic despair. Mental disorder. Victims even over 20.

● United States: Gangs, love affairs, revenge.

● UK: If USA is leading “school shootings” country, UK is leading “school stabbings” country.

Several cases, for different reasons.

“Instead of gun crime, the UK worries about knife crime. And has been practicing knife control.” Greenfield, 2012

School stabbings (Sanna Jokinen 2014)

● Law alone is not enough to prevent stabbings.

Instead of law focus should be on:

- Childrens (why they do what they do?)

- Adults (homicide, vendetta, revenge)

- Role models (Programme, movies, games)● Tightened weapon law → More explosive and

edged weapons (for example China)
