It means that we will respect the individual needs of students who have identified allergies (with care plans) to such products as nuts, kiwi fruit, milk and eggs to name a few. In particular, food products that have nuts or are made from nuts should NOT come to school - ie: peanut paste, Nutella and nut bars. Our canteen is “nut free” and “kiwi fruit free” to accommodate individual students with special needs.

P&C Report

Hi everyone

What an amazing group of supporters we have here at Wirrabirra School! With your help, so far we have raised over $2200 from the Lapathon which is an awesome effort. Any outstanding forms and money need to be in by Monday to be in the running to win the prizes. Every do-nation -– big or small – is greatly appreciated and will go towards purchasing some new playground equipment. The winners of the canteen vouchers and scooters, kindly donated by Terry Healy MLA, will be announced at next week’s assembly. Good luck!

We would love to see lots of parents and carers at our next meeting on Monday night, 22 October at 7pm in the staff room where we will be planning the Moonlight Mar-kets. If you are the parent coordinator for your child’s class, please come along so we can help you to ensure your stall is organised for the night. There is going to be plenty of fun to be had with fete stalls, games, bouncy castles, fairy floss, food trucks, curry, sausage sizzle and more. We also have a monster raffle which will include the chance to win one of two bikes, Toyota service vouchers, Bunnings vouchers, a Margaret River Chocolate Company hamper, a signed framed Delta Goodrem photo and CD, and heaps more. Thanks to Justchillin van, in the lead up to the markets we are also raffling off some vouchers for you to win the family dinner at the markets. Up for grabs are two $50 vouchers and two $20 vouchers to use at the Tex Mex van. If you didn’t get to purchase a raffle ticket at the sports carnival, we will be selling them next Wednesday morning at the canteen, or you may catch us wandering around the school. Tickets are $2 or three for $5. Good news, the P&C is now on Facebook so like us to keep up to date with what we are doing.

convert A Block to LED lighting. Thanks Emma for the huge effort.

One last thanks should go to the office team who worked all day entering results on the computer system to pro-vide up to date scores and progressive points. Thanks Diane, Linda, Fiona and Josie.

MOONLIGHT MARKETS AND CLASS HELPERS

Don’t forget we have our Markets coming up on Friday 16 November and teachers would really appreciate par-ents from each class to help organise and/or help out on the night. If you were all to give a little time it would sup-port the event to generate funds to improve our school. Thanks.

FOGARTY AND COACHING

Last Monday we continued our Expert Coaching as part of our work with the Fogarty Foundation. I was delighted with the work your teachers are doing to improve class instruction and learning programs. We will be continuing this in 2019 and look forward to further improvements.

While I am talking about 2019, the classes and organisa-

tional structures are not finalised but will be similar to

this year. If you have any requests based on your child’s

educational needs, please discuss these with me and I

will endeavour to address these when I complete

planning for next year.

Dear Parents/Carers

Welcome back to Term Four. We have started the term with a bang with lots of things happening and on the go. Last week we had two major events in the Faction Carnival on Thursday and the Jump Jam Concert excursion on Friday. I am happy to report both were a huge success. The students had a fabulous time participating in and giving their all in the events at the Faction Carnival. Many of the photos show huge smiling faces on the student’s faces. Ribbons and stickers were definitely a highlight for the students with many proudly showing off their achieve-ments.

Last Friday we also attended the annual Jump Jam Concert at South Ballajura ESC. The students performed a couple of rou-tines and got to meet Brett Fairweather the founder of the pro-gram. This was a fabulous event and the staff have come away excited about new songs and routines that have been released. We hope those parents who made the trip to South Ballajura enjoyed the event as much as we did.

As you are aware we have been participating in golf lessons. The sporting school grant we received has made this possible. Next week on Wednesday for our final session, the students get the opportunity to visit Gosnells Golf Course and have their lesson there. Please make sure you return the permis-sion slip so your child can attend this. There is no cost for this excursion as it is covered by the grant we received.

Next Friday we also have an event at Kensington School. We will have a stall at the annual ESSN Market Day. The theme for our station will be sensory. The students will be making the products during next week to have available for sale on the day. Parents are more than welcome to come to this event however they will need to transport themselves there as we do not have room on the bus. Students will be able to purchase items from other schools’ stalls and food will also be available. A note outlining this will come home early next week. There is a cost for this excursion, so please make sure you send in your permission note together with the $8 to en-sure your child can participate.

During the holidays we entered several items in displays at the Royal Show. The Scarecrow we entered is now on display in the ESC admin area together with a photo of the wheelbarrow we entered in the Schools’ Produce Category. We were thrilled to gain third place for this. A photo of the wheelbarrow, our ribbon and certificate is on display with our scarecrow. B4 made some fabulous decorations and decorated a cage for Miss O cat and gained second place. B4 also had art work on display at the Royal Show and this is displayed in our admin area. Please feel free to browse the admin area to see all our wonderful work and of course look at the photos scrolling on the tv.

Kind regards

Chaplain’s Chat Hello everyone

Welcome back and I hope you feel refreshed after your holi-

day.

We all need time to relax and recharge physically, mentally

and emotionally but what about our spirits (our true es-

sence)? We stimulate and challenge our mind and look after

our physical wellbeing through good nutrition and exercise

but how do we attend to and nurture our spirits? Our body,

soul and spirit are all woven together, and one part is as

important as the other. Yet our spirit is an area that is often

neglected. The words spirit and breath are translations of

the Hebrew word neshamah and the Greek word pneuma.

The words mean “strong wind, blast, or inspiration.”

Neshamah is the source of life that vitalizes humanity (Job

33:4). It is the intangible, unseen human spirit that governs

man’s/woman’s mental and emotional existence. In past gen-

erations Sunday was set aside to nurture the spirit, whether

that was spending a quiet day at home or attending a reli-

gious service. It was known to be a day of rest, of ceasing

from the busyness and activity of life. For many people Sun-

day is now taken up with activities and tasks which keep us

busy and do not allow us to get closer to our spirit. It is not

so important which day we choose so long as we do set a day

aside. This also protects us against ‘burn out’.

To create true balance and peace in our life it is vital to get

to know our spirit and renew it regularly. Some ways to do

this are:

Spending time (even just an hour) each week doing

something that we love – a hobby or passion. Remember

what you loved as a child or what brings you joy as an

adult.

Try a whole day with the phone switched off (maybe

that’s a stretch).

Taking time out from your daily routine whether that be

a weekend away or a longer vacation. It is so important

to resist working at this time and getting caught up

with tasks and concerns that make us stressed rather

than rested and restored.

Sometimes circumstances are such that this cannot be

avoided.

Be still - through contemplation, meditation, reflection,

prayer – something that halts the constant chatter in

your mind. This will help you to relax and open your

spirit to new possibilities and ideas in your life. There

are many benefits to meditation physically, emotionally

and spiritually.

Nurturing relationships in your life will also nurture

your spirit. It is important to spend time with family

and friends – people who do you good and who you want

to be near.

A great way to nurture your spirit is to make someone

else happy. Mark Twain said, “The best way to cheer

yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. Doing

good for others makes you feel good from the inside out

and your spirit is on the inside.

So, make time to nurture your spirit this season.

God bless

As the school P.E. Teacher I was extremely proud of the student body at the recent Faction Carnival. It was

great to see and feel the overwhelming sense of sportsmanship present at all events. Thank you to all the par-

ents who came and supported their students throughout the day.

In the end, this year Green won supreme in both the Spirit Cup and the overall winning faction.

The individual results of champion boys & girls are also listed below.

Select students will now put their focus toward competing at

the interschool carnival where our team will once again com-

pete against the larger schools in the SRSA, ‘A’ grade carnival.

The invited students will be receiving their notes next week

and the carnival takes place on November 1st at Langford Ath-

letics Centre.
