Welcome!Hello everyone! We are delighted to welcome you to the School ofPsychology & Neuroscience for 2021/2022. Whether you arereturning to St Andrews or studying online, this booklet will provideyou with information on the School-specific orientation events thatare available this year. Orientation Week runs from Monday 6th-Friday 10th September. If you haven't done so already, please go thethe following page to familiarise yourself with university-wideorientation information. The main orientation page also gives youaccess to an app containing a wealth of information about orientationand the University in general.
The School of Psychology and Neuroscience are offering a range ofonline and in person orientation events this year. All in person eventswill be run within the COVID-19 restrictions that are in place at thetime. We will start the week with social/informal events to welcomeyou to the School and allow you to 'meet' each other. The second partof the week will focus on more formal events that will introduce youto subject/year welcome talks.
This booklet provides details of each event/talk run by the School ofPsychology & Neuroscience. Each event listed in the timetable belowis described in order with full descriptions and links to join onlineevents in the following pages. Please have a browse and see whichones are appropriate for you and/or would like to attend!

Stefan, Manon & Maggie will be accompanying Roxy thedog for her walk along East Sands. Please come along! We will walk with Roxy (and maybe some other pooches)on East Sands and talk informally in small, sociallydistanced groups.
All students, staff and their dogs are invited, but bringinga dog is not required. Human and canine participants areencouraged to wear something red (hat, scarf, bandana,collar, etc). If you see a person or dog wearing somethingred at East Sands at this time, introduce yourself and sayhi. Participating dogs will be friendly. Direct contact withdogs is encouraged, but not required.
We will meet at the sailing club building at 10am. Pleasebring your doggo if you have one!

At the University of St Andrews Baby and Child (ABC)Lab we are trying to understand how children think andlearn. We are a team of developmental psychologistsmade up of St Andrews university staff and students,conducting research into the developing minds ofchildren. Who do children prefer to learn from? At whatage can they start to remember past experiences? Whatcan they understand about the world around them? Theseare all questions we try to answer. Using fun, game-likepuzzle tasks, we investigate these developmentalmilestones in children all the way from infancy up untilyoung adulthood.

This module aims to teach you about scientificmethodology. While there will be substantial contenton running statistical tests, this is only one part ofmethodology. Equally important is to know theunderlying principles. What can and can’t weconclude from the analysis of our data?
In this introductory lecture we will introduceourselves as well as cover the overall structure ofthe module, including how the practical sessions willrun and how the person-to-person teaching will beorganised. As we go through these introductoryissues, we will provide hints and tips about how youcould approach your learning not only in this modulebut also more general approaches that may helpyou adjust to Honours teaching.
