Transcript of SCHOOL NEWSLETTER March 1, 2017 - Kenosha, WI Philip Rizzitano "The fast of Lent has no advantage to...
PRINCIPAL POSTINGS:
Today we place ashes on our foreheads to mark the beginning of Lent. We do this to remind ourselves that we have
entered into a period of fasting, almsgiving and prayer. At school we will begin each day with a reflection on a saint
followed by a prayer. The children have also written on a prayer chain, a personal intention that will be read aloud.
As a class, the children will offer that intention up to the Lord in prayer. We have decorated and put away the “word”
Alleluia until we sing it again at Easter. Each day we will offer 5 minutes of silent lunch as a way of “fasting.” Be-
ginning Monday, we will have a week long penny war. The money from our penny war will support three different
student and teacher generated causes and each grade level will focus on a Catholic Social Teaching that speaks to the
cause.
Our primary grades (3 year olds-2nd grade) will learn about Dignity of the Human Person and respect for life.
They will donate the money generated to a family in our own school community who is suffering in a big way
and needs our help. “Belief in the inherent dignity of the human person is the foundation of all Catholic social
teaching. Human life is sacred, and the dignity of the human person is the starting point for a moral vision for
society.”
Our intermediate grades (3rd-5th) will learn about Rights and Responsibility. They will donate the money gen-
erated to the Shalom Center. “Every person has a fundamental right to life and a right to those things required
for human decency – starting with food, shelter and clothing, employment, health care, and education.” Our middle school grades (6th-8th) will learn about Solidarity. They will donate the money generated to the
Marion Fathers in Kibeho, Rwanda to purchase “LifeStraws” that filter out harmful bacteria from drinking
water. “We are one human family. Our responsibilities to each other cross national, racial, economic and ideo-
logical differences. We are called to work globally for justice.”
In addition to the fasting and almsgiving, the children and adults will enter into a time intentional prayer through Ad-
oration, the Stations of the Cross, Rosary and finally our all school Pilgrimage. We ask you to join us in prayer this
Lent.
A few housekeeping items:
We are once again offering a variety of teacher led camps this summer. More information is coming soon on those
ASCS camps. This year we are also hosting a “Camp Invention” for grades 1-6 and a “Project Invention” for grades
7-9. This is a nationally recognized camp. The camp will be taught by ASCS teachers and we are seeking High
School students to volunteer for the camp as well. Information can be found in the newsletter. Registration is open
and a discount code is listed on the flyers.
Also, please be mindful of any balances you are carrying on your hot lunch account. While a few dollars doesn’t seem
like a lot to one family, when we add it together it accumulates to a “few” thousand dollars to our school family!
Mrs. Feudner spends a lot of time making calls and emailing families to collect the money. She is also working on our
school auction which takes hours of time. Please pay your past due balances.
Blessings,
Dr. Jackie Lichter

Hot Lunch Balances Did you know … your account should have a positive balance before your child takes a lunch? Did you know... ASCS school families hot lunch accounts are past due $1827.00?
Did you know.... if your account is past due $10.00 multiply that by 435 families, it adds up quickly!
I ask that you please be diligent in checking your parent Option C account weekly. Id's and
passwords were given in your packet during the summer along with material on how to
check/understand your account. If you need your parent id and password again, please
contact me and I can provide that to you.
As we near the end of the school year all accounts need to be in the positive. Thank you to
all the families that continue to keep track of your child(ren's) lunch accounts.

"The fast of Lent has no advantage to
us unless it brings about our spiritual
renewal. It is necessary while fasting
to change our whole life and practice
virtue. Turning away from all wicked-
ness means keeping our tongue in
check, restraining our anger, avoiding
all gossip, lying and swearing. To ab-
stain from these things— herein lies
the true value of the fast."
— St. John Chrysostom

Invention Project Take fun to the next level with Invention Project, a one-of-a-kind program for entering 7th through 9th grade students. Learn business skills while ex-ploring circuitry, energy, bioengineering and eco-nomics to create smart gear and so much more! You’ll use these abilities to research, pitch and in-vest in your product in a team filled with fellow crea-tive thinkers! When you complete Invention Project, you won’t have a patent — yet — but you’ll have what you need to make anything possible. Bring your voice. Bring your vision. And make Inven-tion Project your own. Secure your spot today at www.inventionproject.org or by call-ing 800.968.4332!
Imaginations get their rocket fuel at Camp Invention! An exciting, weeklong summer adventure awaits with activities that explore connections between sci-ence, technology, engineering, and innovation while sharpening their 21st century STEM skills. A pro-gram of the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Camp Invention allows children in kindergarten through 6th grade to experience real-world problem solving, cre-ative thinking, invention, and teamwork. Children work together to transform the terrain and ecosys-tem of a distant exoplanet. They take risks as bud-ding business owners, blast rockets, air cannons, and rubber chickens, and wire a circuit to create their own Spy Gadget Alarm Box! Local, certified educators lead a week of hands-on activities that fuel children’s confidence in their natural ability to dream and create. Early registration discounts are available so don’t miss out on this exciting oppor-tunity. Visit campinvention.org or call 800.968.4332 for information. Use promo code Discover25 to save $25 (expires 3/20) and Discover15 to save $15 (expires 5/01).
