Everyone in school is a member of the school library. Mrs Maclean is the Librarian and Mrs Luck opens each morning. There are a number of adult volunteers who help in the Library. Please introduce yourselves when you come in. We hope you make good use of the Library. Don’t forget to join your local public library. It’s free and there are lots

of online resources although your school library has lots more fiction for your age range.

The Library is open before school 8:00-8:45, lunchtime 13:25-14:05 and after school 15:10-16:30. On Fridays until 16:00.

During the school day, different subject areas book to use the library.

Hello and welcome to a short guide about your Library

When is your Library open?

During lessons, your teacher may send you to the Library to change your reading book, take tests or undertake some research.

Occasionally it is necessary to restrict numbers in the Library for Health and Safety reasons, in order to avoid overcrowding.

Please bring anything you wish to borrow to the desk, even if you only want it for a few minutes.

Returning items also need to be brought to the desk to be scanned. If this is not done the item is still listed as being on loan to you.

If Mrs Maclean is not there then please sign the book on the desk. If a friend wishes to borrow your book return it to the Library first.

MOST BOOKS 4 books for 4 weeksSHORT LOAN 1 item for 3 daysREFERENCE Reference books cannot be borrowed

Remember YOU are responsible for any items borrowed in your name, please look after them and bring them back on time.

Books can be borrowed for longer. Books can be reserved. Just ask at the desk.

FINES The Library does not charge fines, but please bring resources back on time. If anything is lost or damaged.

How do I borrow books?

How can I find the resources that I need?

Fiction books are shelved alphabetically by author surname. Non-fiction books are arranged by Dewey Number.

You will find a subject index on the Library website found under Library in the subject area on Frog

.

Accelerated Reader is an online tool used to encourage you to read, based on your own ability.

Three times a year you take the quick, online STAR test that then sets you a ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development).

This is translated into individual book levels.

You then read books within your book levels. After you have read a book, you then take a quick online test on the book.

You should be aiming for 85% as this shows real progress

By reading books at your own level there is greater understanding and enjoyment .

Each 100% quiz result will earn you one entry in the draw and a star on the starboard.
