Foundation/Prep Enrolments 2018
It has been a pleasure to show many families around the school and highlight the wonderful learning that is occurring in each classroom. The families have all commented on the respectful manner in which the children engage each other, their teachers and visitors.
Creswick Primary School with its quality teachers, great resources, deep curriculum and broad extra-curricular is a great place to be!
Over the next couple of weeks we have a large number of tours booked. If you have a neighbour, friend, relative or acquaintance with a child starting Foundation/Preps in 2018, encourage them to contact the school to see first-hand the great opportunities their child will have available to them.
Book Fair
The Book Fair has created a great deal of interest and enthusiasm throughout the school and the discussions would most likely have continued at home.
Increasing interest in reading is always a good thing! Well done to Ms Stewart and Mrs Kennedy for their extra effort to initiate the Book Fair.
Remember:
Parents are invited to visit the Book Fair in the library on Thursday and Friday from 3.30 – 4.00pm and also on Friday morning from 8.30 – 9.00am.
Student Attendance
It is important for all to recognise the importance of consistent school attendance. In the first instance it is essential for learning but the long term effect can also be on employment prospects. Parents often ask, when is it appropriate for children to have a day off school?
Accepted reasons for children to be away from school include: illness, medical appointments, religion events and funerals.
Some unacceptable reasons for student absences include: shopping, their birthday, taking care of family members or going to a concert.
## Every absence adds up and when there are some legitimate days away from school added to some frivolous absences the impact on ‘student learning’ can be significant.
Extra-Curricular
Change of Dates ## Somers Camp As a result of the Somers Camp, the Whole School Performance date has been moved to Thursday the 14th September. Clearly we want all children to have the opportunity to be involved in the performance, hence the date change!
## Nit Information Session
Unfortunately the Nit Information Session had to be postponed this week and we apologise for any inconvenience. The training session for parents will now be:
13th June at 2.30 – 3.30pm in the School Library - Debra Watts (her business is Peek-a-pooh head lice removal) will assist parents to detect, identify, treat, remove and prevent.
We encourage parents to make the most of this opportunity to help prevent and/or treat head lice.
Extra-Curricular continued...
Queenscliff Camp
The students in the Senior Unit will be printing out some of their favourite photos from the recent camp to Queenscliff. The photos and related work the children are currently completing will be displayed in the ‘Gallery’ starting from Tuesday the 13th June.
Regional Cross Country
On Monday of this week, five students and their families travelled to Warrnambool to compete in the Regional Cross Country Championships. The students all did their best and most finished in mid-field. Well done to Wil Jowett, Bella Davies, Peyton McMillan, Jacinta Mckenzie and Molly Davies for getting through the ‘Regional Finals.’
Student Attitude to School Survey
Over the next couple of weeks the students in Grades Four, Five and Six will complete a survey. The survey is about engagement, safety, learning confidence and connectedness to both their peers and school. The data gained from the survey will help the school plan to gain continuous improvement into the future.
Somers Camp Opportunity
Expressions of interest were sent out to families for Somers Camp this week. The camp is not until late August but the expressions of interest have to be returned to school by Tuesday 13th June, 2017.
