School Closures and Repurposing
Recommendation March 1, 2016
Reasons for the Recommendation
Better utilizes financial resources Addresses declining enrollment Supports the recommendations made by the
Building and Site Utilization Committee Provides for preservation and expansion
of current programming Incorporates community feedback Supports recommendations by the Capital
Planning Advisory Committee for bond implementation
High School Recommendation Close Harrison High School (HHS) beginning
with current HHS 8th grade students being assigned to attend Farmington High School (FHS) or North Farmington High School (NFHS) for the 2016-17 school year.
Current HHS students would continue at HHS for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years.
High School Recommendation
Current HHS Freshmen class would be the final HHS graduating class and would be moved together to complete their senior year at either FHS or NFHS as a school within a school.
Farmington Central High School will be relocated to the Harrison site. It is anticipated that this will be done in the 2017-18 school year.

High School Recommendation
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program will be moved into Farmington High School with full implementation of this move occurring in the 2018-19 school year.

Middle School Recommendation Dunckel Middle School to close as a middle
school and be repurposed into a K-8 Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) Academy beginning in the fall of 2017.
A survey of all seventh grade families will be conducted to receive their feedback on remaining in place for their 8th grade year or changing schools aligned to new middle school boundaries.
Elementary/ Early Childhood Programs Recommendation
Highmeadow Common Campus will close at the end of the 2016-17 school year with the program, as a STEAM K-8 Academy, moving to Dunckel.
The current Highmeadow site would then be repurposed to house the District’s early childhood program (combining the current programs currently located at Alameda and Farmington Community School.)
