    The Hendry County School Board met in Regular Session beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the SchoolBoard Meeting Room, Sub-office, 475 E. Osceola Ave., Clewiston, FL. Those in attendancewere: Jon Basquin, Chairman; Dwayne E. Brown, Vice Chairman; Sally Berg, Stephanie Businand Amanda Nelson, Members; and Paul K. Puletti, Superintendent.

    The meeting was called to order by Chairman Basquin.

    Pledge & Invocation – Chairman Basquin led the Board and guests in the Lord's Prayer and theSalute to the U. S. Flag.

    Hurricane Update – Superintendent Puletti updated Board Members regarding school closuresand hurricane shelters as a result of Hurricane Irma.

    Public Comments - Chairman Basquin asked if there was anyone in the audience that would liketo address the Board regarding any agenda item. There was no response.

    Items for Action –

    1. Final Hearing and Adoption of the 2017-18 Budget - Chairman Basquin opened the hearing.

    Superintendent Puletti asked Mr. Michael Yanosik, Chief Financial Officer, to present the

    budget. After the presentation, Mr. Yanosik answered questions posed by the Board.

    After the presentation of the budget, Chairman Basquin asked if anyone in the audience hadany further questions or input in regards to the 2017-18 Official Budget as advertised.

    There being no response, Chairman Basquin closed the hearing.

    Superintendent Puletti announced the following:

    1. That the taxing authority is the District School Board of Hendry County.2. The State Rolled-back Rate is: 4.5288 mills3. The Local Rolled-back Rate is: 2.1786 mills4. The Total Rolled-back Rate decrease is: 3.39%

    Superintendent Puletti recommended the following millage levies:

    General Operating millage levy: 4.232 millsBasic Discretionary millage levy for General Operating: 0.748 millsBasic Discretionary millage levy for Capital Outlay: 1.500 mills

    Total millage levy for the Official Budget: 6.480 mills

    MOVED by Sally Berg and second by Amanda Nelson, and carried to approve therecommendation of Superintendent Puletti that the 2017-18 Millage Levy be approved aspresented. (Busin – Nay)

    Superintendent Puletti recommended approval of the 2017-18 Official Budget as follows:

    1. Fund I General $66,534,8662. Fund II Debt Service 2,781,5853. Fund III Capital Projects 5,520,0954. Fund IV Special Revenues 14,008,7045. Fund VII Internal Service 1,683,0166. Fund VIII Trust & Agency 3,163,993

    Total 93,692,259

    2. Hearing - Policies 1430.03, 4430.03, and 7530.01 as advertised - Chairman Basquin openedthe hearing and asked if anyone wished to speak regarding the proposed revised policies.There being no input, Chairman Basquin closed the hearing.

    On motion by Stephanie Busin and second by Dwayne E. Brown, the Board unanimouslyaccepted the recommendation of the Superintendent that the proposed revised Policies1430.03, 4430.03, and 7530.01 be approved as advertised. (See Superintendent's File)

    3. Florida Blue Insurance Renewal Rates for Calendar Year 2018 - Mr. Michael Yanosik,Chief Financial Officer, reviewed the Florida Blue Insurance Renewal Rates for Calendar Year2018 and answered questions posed by Board Members.

    On motion by Sally Berg and second by Dwayne E. Brown, the Board unanimously acceptedthe recommendation of Superintendent Puletti to approve the Florida Blue Insurance RenewalRates for Calendar Year 2018 as presented. (See Superintendent's File)

    Consent Agenda – Superintendent Puletti requested that the Consent Agenda Items be tabled untilthe next meeting with the exception of the following:

    Presentations -

    Mary Pringle, Hendry County Director - Special Olympics Florida - Mrs. Mary Pringle,Special Olympics Florida Hendry County Director, introduced Mr. Mark Thompson, RegionalManager. Mr. Thompson addressed the Board and guests regarding Special Olympics. Hebriefly provided the background of the organization and an overview of the activities offered.Mr. Thompson provided Board Members with an informational packet for their review. Mrs.Pringle and Mr. Thompson requested the support of the School Board for the school-basedprograms.

    Kevin McCarthy, Director of Facilities, Maintenance & Transportation - Storm Report – Mr.Kevin McCarthy, Director of Facilities, Maintenance & Transportation, provided a report tothe Board regarding the damages throughout the District that were caused by Hurricane Irma.He shared a PowerPoint depicting the various damages for the Board and guests and answeredquestions by Board Members.

    Public Comments - Chairman Basquin asked if there was anyone in the audience that would liketo address the Board regarding any agenda item. There was no response.

    Amend Agenda – Superintendent Puletti requested that Item d. - Plan for Hurricane Make-upDays under Board Member Business be moved to this point and time.

    Plan for Hurricane Make-up Days – Mrs. Lucinda Kelley, Deputy Superintendent forContinuous Improvement, Human Resources and Operations, reviewed the proposed plan to makeup lost instructional time due to Hurricane Irma for the Board and guests.

    At this time, concerned parents and staff from the audience shared their thoughts with the Board onthe proposed plan.

    After a lengthy discussion, it was moved by Sally Berg and seconded by Amanda Nelson, and theBoard approved the proposed plan to make up the lost information time due to Hurricane Irma asrecommended by Superintendent Puletti. (Busin - Nay) (See Superintendent's File)
