In reponse to today’s needs, involving new advanced materialsand stricter production standards, SCHMIDT offers a large selectionof tension meters and ranges to satisfy those requirements.

Competition is constantly changing. Higher effi ciency requirementsand continuous quality control make monitoring of tension more importantthan ever. If, for instance, the winding tension of a copper wireis too high, the wire diameter will decrease, resulting in a changein the electrical resistance. With natural fi bers, excessive fi ber tension leads to a change in characteristic. With synthetic fi bers, this results in irreversible molecular shifts, which may cause the fabric to dye unevenly. The inevitable consequence is a product of poor quality.

SCHMIDT tension meters help you eliminate tension-related defects.

We solve tension-measuring problems.More than 60 years. Worldwide. In 1948, the founder of the company Mr. Hans Schmidt started sellingand distributing yarns and textile machinery. He became aware of the importance which the control of tension hadfor production processes, and soon developed and constructeda 3-Roller Tension Meter which featured one measuring roller andtwo guiding rollers. This ingenious principle of operationhas been proved to be the best method for tension measuring. The 3-roller measuring system has become the hallmark of all SCHMIDT tension meters and remains unsurpassed in its effi ciency even today. Since 1962, the company’s headquarter is in Waldkraiburg, located near Munich, Germany.

General Information on SCHMIDT Tension Meters

The width of the measuring head varies with the modeldesign and the tension range. Dimension »X« defi nes the mini-mum access space required along the material path. It isdetermined by the width of the fi lament guide, the distancebetween the two outer guide rollers, or the outside dimensionsof the front plate, whichever is the largest.

Operating elements DX2:

All SCHMIDT tension metersfeature the 3-roller measuringsystem. The center measuring rolleris defl ected by the tension of themeasured material. This measuringprinciple assures highest accuracyand repeatability. All rollers are equipped withprecision ball bearings.

SCHMIDT Online-sensors and display units:

For the continuous measurement of the running line tensions of threads and yarns, wires, cables, optic and carbon fi bers and similar materials, SCHMIDT offers a wide variety ofsensors using different guide rollers and frontplate dimensions.Measuring principle 3-Roller Tension System:3-roller measuring system, consisting of two outer guide rollers and a middle measuring roller. The tension of the measured material slightly defl ects the measuring roller. This defl ection (up to 0.5 mm) is measured by a load cell. The built-in amplifi er then generates an analog output signal which is proportional to the measured tension.Measuring principle 1-Roller Tension System:In combination with 2 outer reference guiding points the sensor builds a force triangle. The angle of contact has to be stable. The sensor uses straingauges and supplies a output signal in mV or V (with integrated amplifi or).

Tension metersfor special applications

Series FT

Synthetic mesh always looses tension in time. Correct mesh tension is one of the most important conditions for accurate, reproducable and high quality screen printing.Special features:To be used for synthetic and steel meshes Warpwise or weftwise measuring is possible 2 adjustible markers to set limits (MIN, MAX) Protected precision dial gaugeMeasuring range 6 - 50 N/cmDepth of indentation max. 1 mmMeasuring force 2.1 - 3.0 Naccording DIN EN16611

Series RTM

For measuring the static tension of transmission belts ase.g. timing or vee belts. The instrument measures thefrequency of a taut belt and displays the frequency in Hertz or tension in Newton. For meauring the staticbelt has to be tapped to oscillate.

Special features:Hand-held instrument The readings can be displayed as frequency (Hz) or strand force (N or lbf) The belt tension meter includes a display unit as well as a plug in probe for one-hand operation and a probe with cable for limited acces space For determinating the spring force in Newton, 2 parameters are needed. Thereby the following restrictions are obtained: - free strand length 9.99 m - belt mass up to 9.999 kg/mMeasuring range 10 - 800 HzDisplay error ± 1 HzTotal error < 5 %Battery operated Rugged plastic housing Microprocessor controlled belt tension meter Mulitilingual operator guidance and display

Series TEN

For measuring tensionof fi bers and fi laments only.Special features:Compact mechanical tension meter with 2 rollers11 measuring ranges up to 170 g (cN)

Series SY

For measuring the tension of overhead lines, tensioning ropes, aerials etc.Measuring principle:With the outer rolls, the de-vice will be hooked into thestrained rope. With a knurledscrew, the middle roll will bebrought in the measuring position to press with a con-stant force towards to therope. The generated defl ec-tion is displayed on a dial indicator. The measuring result has to be converted from mm reading to the corresponding force in daN by using a conversion chart.Special features: for ropes diameter up to 20 mm large scale (100 mm Ø)
