Academic Letter Program
The Academic Letter Program is a way to reward the students for their outstanding academic success. It is difficult to obtain so that it will be viewed as an honor, yet not too difficult so that students will feel motivated to try. Just like any other letter there must be a set way to determine who is eligible. For this particular letter it was decided that a point system would be the most effective. The points shall be as follows:
Principal’s Honor Roll -------------------- 2.5Honor Roll --------------------------------- 2.0Participating in various clubs/activities .5 to 2.0**
In order to earn a letter and a lamp of knowledge pin, you must either gain 10.5 points in a one-year period (from the last nine weeks of one year to the end of the third nine-weeks of the next year), or in your freshman year you must accumulate 8 points in the first three grading periods. To get a bar pin, you must accumulate an additional 10.5 points per bar. The points don’t accumulate from year to year. The letter would be hard to obtain, yet not impossible. Earning the letter would be looked at as an honor, therefore promoting a reason for students to work harder in their academics. By having this letter the school would be displaying a positive scholastic atmosphere to neighboring schools.
