    The goal of this course is to prepare the experienced law enf orcement of f icer to be an ef f ectiv e instructor f or his agency . The course f ocuses on principles of learning, the police of f icer as an adult learner, determining training needs, and def ining instructional objectiv es. The student will become f amiliar with ef f ectiv e communication and teaching strategies and will make presentations using lesson plans, v isual support materials, and contemporary teaching techniques. The contents of this course can be applied to the beginning or experienced instructor of law enf orcement topics. This is normally conducted as a 40-hour course. This is a pass/no pass course. PREREQUISITE: POST certif ied basic law enf orcement academy or equiv alent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. Note: Approv al of equiv alent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equiv alency . Prior to beginning this course students must already be f amiliar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather they will be the starting point f or adv anced of f icer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill lev els are regarding: 1. Of f icer saf ety 2. Familiarity with saf e f irearms handling, cleaning and storage 3. Ability to achiev e a qualif y ing score during tactical handgun shooting 4. Ability to achiev e a qualif y ing score during shotgun shooting 5. Ability to achiev e a qualif y ing score during AR15 shooting 6. Knowledge of saf e and ef f ectiv e tactical mov ement 7. Familiarity with saf e and ef f ectiv e arrest and control technique 8. Knowledge of ground f ighting techniques 9. Knowledge of saf e handling and use of chemical weapons 10. Knowledge of saf e handling and use of nonlethal weapons 11. Familiarity with Penal codes used in policing 12. Familiarity with Vehicle codes used in policing 13. Familiarity with Health & Saf ety codes used in policing 14. Familiarity with Welf are & Institutions codes used in policing 15.
