English 1A is a composition course which f ocuses on the dev elopment and application of the academic writing process. Students read and assess models of expository , analy tical, and argumentativ e prose to learn techniques of ef f ectiv e writing. Students apply critical reading skills to the ev aluation of source material in the dev elopment of a thesis-driv en, research-supported essay .
