Life is like a river. The river water always remains fresh since it flows one end to the other. If the water stagnated it becomes dirty. Life must flow with all the activities if it is stagnated or struck down or Lockdown it becomes very dull or we feel bored. The dynamism of life brings forth the beauty and satisfaction to the individuals. All of us have good plans for the life Education, Job, Spouse, House etc. We plan for a happy life. When everything flows or goes as per our plans, we will be lucky persons. We are all in the journey of our life with strong hope and trust to lead good life. We need that strong faith to continue this journey. we should not be discouraged or stressed too much. We hope for the better.

Running through the News channels learned about the economic crisis and Employment crisis. Many are now without employment. As we all know that the employment is necessary to care for oneself and family. A thought on my home country of India during this Covid-19. India a large populated country. It is an agriculture-based country. Most people are daily workers. Since they cannot get to work, they will not get anything to provide the food for the family. The jobless becomes the foodless. The poor became jobless and with out shelter because they migrate to the cities to work. The shutdown or lock down made them unemployed. It is not just the poor, but many others are now unemployed. No job, no income, no food, no shelter. A great challenging situation but still the life flows with the hope to be alright one day. As there is an increase of positive cases the authorities are extending the lockdown. Due to this many people will suffer in many ways especially the daily workers will not get the food. It is nice to see some of the kindhearted people volunteer to reach out with food packets, vegetables and rice but still many will remain without food. We need to pray that God may help us to come out of this virus situation. We pray and we trust in God.

It is said that “Health is Wealth.” Though one may be rich but if he is one is not healthy all that is waste. Now the world mourns with the health crisis. There are many healthcare workers who risk their lives to save others. It is not just the good food, but also good exercise helps us to remain healthy. We may put in other words that a disciplined life brings out good results. It must be done for once own good not for the sake of the other. You are responsible to yourself and you must live your life. Let us imbibe the good habits for our good.

We went to the neighborhood with the Blessed Sacrament. It was nice to see many people with their family come out to adore the Eucharistic Lord and receive His mighty blessings. This is the beauty and uniqueness of the catholic faith that our dear Lord remains always with us. We have blessed few neighborhoods and we continue to do it. Let us continue to offer ourselves, our families and entire world to mighty Lord’s hands. Stay home, stay healthy.

Yours in the Lord,

Fr. Anil Polumari

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

4 | ST. RAPHAEL PARISH · OSHKOSH

March is the month dedicated to St. Joseph.

Here is what is happening this month: All youth faith formation activities will be conducted remotely for the remain-der of the RE school year, which end on May 26/27. Be on the lookout for communications via email for activities your family can work on at home.

This week’s

Memorial Candle is

burning in loving memory of

Frances & Dorothy

Kuklinski.

St. Raphael Families of Faith

Resources for the Domestic Church

Here are some ways your family can grow to-gether this week!

• Read Lk 24:13-35 (The story of the Road to Emmaus) and then take your own “Emmaus” walk as a family. Talk about the signs that remind you of God’s presence as you walk.

• The memorial of St. Catherine of Siena is April 29. Enjoy an Italian meal together, and ask God to help you discern what He is calling you to do.

Exercise daily. Walk with the Lord.

The Blessed Sacrament in Parish Neighborhoods

Fr Anil and Fr Tom will continue to bring the Blessed Sacrament in a monstrance to different neighborhoods of the parish.

This is weather dependent, and so there is not a schedule. However, it will be posted on Facebook the day before with the neighborhood and start time. Just prior to the start time, a link will be posted

and the route. Fr. Anil and Fr. Tom will continue to do this in the coming weeks, asking for the Lord’s Eucharistic Blessing to be with all of us.

You can track the location when we do this on a link that is posted on Facebook.

All middle school and High school students are invited to stay in touch with our Youth Ministry program through social media and other onl ine

"gatherings."

AFTERSHOCK moves to Monday nights at 7pm this coming week April 27. Join us on Zoom as we continue to grow in faith and friendship!

Follow aftershock_ym_straph on Instagram to keep up to date with all things Youth Ministry. Email [email protected] or message the Instagram account to receive the Zoom Link to join in the meeting!

OPEN HEARTS AND OPEN DOORS: WELCOMING A

GLOBAL OUTREACH CATHOLIC EXCHANGE STUDENT

Hosting an exchange student is an amazing experience for you and for the exchange student. Lourdes Academy would like to welcome

two Global Outreach exchange students for the 2020-2021 academic year. Global Outreach is Catholic exchange program with a mission of building a civilization of love by forming young dynamic Catholic servant leaders for the 21st century. Placement of students becomes a reality when a household opens the door to their heart and home and says “yes” to hosting a student. Currently, 11 students are waiting for their “Good News! We have a host family for you” letter. The students are from Czech Republic, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine. Please contact Barbara Tota-Boryczka, Executive Director, [email protected] (920) 540-3085 or Fr. Larry Seidl, Spiritual Director, [email protected] (920) 412-0320 for further information. Here is more information on two of the fine young students who could be placed at Lourdes Academy:

Tadas is 16 years old and lives near Kaunas, Lithuania. He comes from a close family and has a special relationship with his older brother. He describes himself as having a charismatic and friendly personality. He is optimistic and likes helping others to be optimistic. He is also active and cannot stand doing nothing–he always finds activities for himself. His creative side is very strong. While he loves playing and watching sports, he devotes much of his energy to developing his musical talent, playing piano, accordion and guitar. He also loves to draw and act. He is very social, likes meeting new people and finding more friends.

Sofia is 16 years old and lives in a village near Kosice, the second largest city in Slovakia. Her friends and family say that the most beautiful thing about Sofia is her kindheartedness and cheerfulness. Her biggest hobby is cooking and baking, and she would like to acquaint her host family with the food of her small but beautiful country. Her main sport is swimming. As a Global Oureach student, she would like to gain new experiences, become more responsible and independent and grow spiritually.

Reflecting on the Scriptures “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” --- Luke: 24: 32

Confused, disappointed, dejected, and grieving---these two disciples had heard Jesus, seen the miracles, and truly encountered Jesus. This Jesus H lived forgiveness, love, healing. This Jesus raised Lazarus, brother of Mary and Martha. The result of these past three days was incongruous with the Christ they had come to believe in. All hope had vanished. They moved slowly, depression robbing the spring from their steps. They were hurting in their grief. Their messiah and their dreams had just been crucified. Most of all, there was fear, not fear that they themselves might be crucified. Theirs was that more horrible fear that comes from the realization that perhaps nothing makes a difference after all, maybe our dreams and our hopes point to nothing more real than the tooth fairy and the Easter Bunny.

The stranger on the road had been a consolation for these two dejected travelers. Why not ask him to stay? They continued to share---conversation and bread. Suddenly their eyes were opened: in the breaking of the bread. Their hearts were burning, recognizing Jesus. They understood. Jesus was with them again. Their dreams popped like fireworks anew and alive! Their hope, their dream had not died on that dark Friday afternoon. The Son had risen and their hope was alive again

Some days I feel like I am trudging along on the road, but I am never in despair, never without hope---not even on the darkest of days. Not even on the days I am forced to journey the rest of the way with one less friend, one less family member. In the big picture, I am just tent camping here on earth until I arrive home, in the lap of the one who loves me, who died for my schmuckiness of sin.

I encounter people who live the Holy Saturday wait, who are afraid to hope. Jesus said, “Be not afraid”. To any fear, I say “Get behind me, Satan”. I am journeying and Jesus is with me. It is in his company that I discuss my concerns, questions, and doubts, as they steal in. I am also called to share my hope and offer consolation, bringing others to the breaking of the bread in the Eucharist. At the Eucharistic table, I recognize Jesus, his sacrifice, his death, and rising to life and hope. May I—and you---bring others along on the journey to recognize Jesus in the breaking of the bread of life. May we be able to gather once again at the Eucharistic table!

Resurrection joy and Easter hope as we journey homeward! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Betty Schwandt, Pastoral Associate

Family member in the hospital? Right now, priests are only able to visit people in the hospital when someone is actively dying. As a result, we do not know who is in the hospital. Please let us know if someone in your family is dealing with a health issue, and you would like our priests and pastoral care staff to know and so be able to provide pastoral care. Please con tac t the pa r i sh o f f i ce a t [email protected] or 233-0844 with that information.

RICE BOWLS – We are still accepting rice bowl dona-

tions. If you have a rice bowl, we ask that you count

it at home and write a check to the parish for the

amount. Please indicate on the memo line that it is for the rice bowl collection. Your donation will then be forwarded to Catholic Relief Services. Your donation can be either dropped in the after hours collection box

or mailed to the parish office. Thank you to all who

WORKING WITH THE SCRIPTURES (Acts 2:14, 22-33; Lk. 24:13-35)

“The Pope is dead – long live the Pope!” Pope John Paul II had died. For weeks people had gathered outside St. Peter’s. First, they prayed for the Holy Father’s return to health; then, for a miracle; and, finally, that he might have a peaceful death. Now, for the first time in history, the Faithful saw television coverage of the Pope’s body lying in state inside the Vatican as dignitaries and friends came to say Good-Bye. His body would be taken to St. Peter’s, where thousands would come to pay their final respects to the man who, for many, was the only pope they had ever known.

“Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds…which God worked through him in your midst…” Poland was free; Russia no longer crouched behind an iron curtain. John Paul II was also a man commended to us by God and certainly God had worked mighty deeds through him, but as important as his political presence had been it was his love for humanity, his ability to really see the dignity of ach and every individual that people remembered. He was a man of deep prayer – a mystic, some would say; but he also had a wonderful sense of humor and a ready smile. Young people, especially, loved him. And they knew that he loved them, too.

“Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days?” Given the amount of coverage provided by media around the world there was probably no one on the planet who did not know of the things that had taken place in Rome in those days. As we continue on our Easter journey some who remember the Holy Father’s funeral still tell their stories. “Was it not necessary that the [Holy Father] should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Perhaps one of the commentators said it best. The Holy Father showed us how to live. Now he had shown us how to die. “The Pope is dead – long live the Pope!”
