1 The Vict ry Chain Leadership Link Welcome to the 2014-2015 year for the Spouses’ Club of Fort Eustis. I am excited to see so many returning faces as well as numerous new faces at our events. This year has gotten off to a great start and we have begun to Bloom Where We’re Planted right here in the Hampton Roads area. We have a scattered footprint and our members are lending a helping hand from Hampton, to Newport News, to Williamsburg and of course right here at Fort Eustis. We have a great board this year working together as a team and we do still have a few positions available. If you are interested in coming on board, please let me know and we can find the right opportunity for you. There are also opportunities to volunteer on committees for the winter/spring to include: Warrior Run, Scholarship and Community Grants. The board worked very diligently this summer to get our governing documents updated and submitted and we are excited that those passed the test of our general membership. Super sign-up was a different experience this year, and was a success. We look forward to building on that idea and making it even better in the future. A big thank you to Heidi Nelson for coming out to our September luncheon, “Bloom Where You’re Planted”. Heidi is with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation and she shared some of the hidden gems of the Williamsburg/Jamestown area, as well as provided us with some great Colonial Williamsburg shopping bags. Many of you were chatting amongst friends, new and old, at your tables and that was a great way to kick off our year. October brought us “First and Ten with SCFE” and a message from Mary Beth at Beyond Boobs. She reminded us that we must first take care of ourselves before we can truly bloom where we are planted. We also welcomed Coach Scott from Hornsby Middle School and none of you were afraid to tackle “football 101”. A great time was had by all and you looked great in your team colors! And a big thank you for your donations to benefit the Dorothy G. Hoefer Comprehensive Breast Center. With November comes the holiday season and what better way to kick that off than with our Wreath and Tree Fundraiser on Thursday, November 20 th . Come out and bid on some great wreaths and trees to get a jumpstart on your holiday decorating. Don’t be afraid to outbid a friend, and the sky is the limit as we will be accepting credit cards for our auction. I am honored to be a part of such a great group. I look forward to us continuing to grow as a club this year. Thank you for all you do for your spouses, families and our community. Here’s to seeing you all on November 20 th . Sincerely, Happy Happy Garner, SCFE President

Funny that I have been the member of military spouses’ clubs for 27 years and have served on 5 separate Spouse Club boards for a total of 10 years and until I had the opportunity to work on the rewrite of the SCFE’s Constitution and By-Laws this year I never thought of the monthly luncheons as general membership business meetings inspire of voting on board members at the end of each year. It just goes to show, you are never too seasoned to see through new lenses. ~Sandy

Are you ready for another Day Trip???? On , November 13th, we will meet again at

Walmart on Jefferson (garden center side) at 9:00 to visit Portsmouth, VA. We will

visit several little antique and novelty shops along High Street and tour the

Portsmouth waterfront overlooking the Elizabeth River. Then, we will enjoy the

picturesque view as we dine for lunch at 757 Crave! If we have time and the group

decides to do so, we will tour the Children's Museum of Portsmouth. They have

some really great exhibits that you'll want to revisit with your family. (Admission

costs for Military is $10.). We may also take the ferry across to the Norfolk side and

explore the shops on the other side of the river. Ferry cost is $1.50 each way. (Must

have exact change.). Be sure to wear comfortable shoes; we will be doing a lot of

walking! Hope to see you there! Please RSVP to Karen Rigole by November12th.

The Daytrippers enjoyed antiquing in the quaint little town of Smithfield. We ate lunch at the marina restaurant, Smithfield Station. It was a fabulous day of shopping and spending time with friends!
