Assessment

• Children are not tested in Reception.

• We spend time observing children to see what they can do and we plan for their next steps based on what they show us in their play and in adult led activities.

• You will be part of their assessments too, adding to their learning journal and informing us of key learning you see at home.

Enrichment and excitement

If a child has a love for learning, they are interested and want to find out more.

Each child learns differently, at their own pace and have their own interests.

EYFS: it allows us to plan,

following each child’s interests.

C Child initiated learning – Through

the environment, we have continuous play opportunities to encourage the children to explore their own learning, revisit experiences, practice skills and transfer learning.

E Educators – We are both co-educators for our

children and want to work together to support your child.

EYFS Learning Journals (Tapestry) – this is an electronic record of your child’s learning achievements and development: records of conversations, discussions, collection of drawing, writing, photos & videos of practical activities, personal and social interactions. We will offer a parents workshop in September on how to use Tapestry.

How can parents contribute to them? We encourage you to contribute to your

child’s learning Journal. You may wish to send in stickers, notes or photos to celebrate your child’s achievements. Its so quick and easy to add them online but paper observations are great too.

PPlay – Children learn through play!

Practical activities give the children a chance to explore, talk and question. This also promotes language development. Language is a skill for life; it’s used for thinking, social interaction and communication.

Provisions – we use outdoor and indoor environments to help give reason, purpose and context to our learning. We learn what ever the weather – we have waterproofs, wellies and endless supplies of mud and puddles!

We love MUD in reception!!!
