IS JESUS CHRIST TRULY OUR LORD?

A.W. Pink: We do not ask: Is Christ your “Savior,”? But is He, really and truly, your Lord? If He is not your Lord, then He is most certainly not your “Savior.”

A.W. Pink: “Those who have not received Christ Jesus as their “Lord” and yet suppose Him to be their “Savior,” are deluded, and their hope rests on a foundation of sand.”

CONFESSING CHRIST AS LORD IS NOT EQUAL TO: • Mere Belief• Knowing the Facts• Saying Sinner’s Prayer• Part of Christian Home• Attending Church• Moral Person• Saying Religious Words

CONFESSING CHRIST AS LORD MEANS: • God’s work of Grace (Eph. 2:8-9) and Conviction of Sin (John 16:8; Acts 3:19)• Turning from sin to God in Christ (1 Thess 1:9)• Christ occupying the throne of our heart, ruling over our life (Romans 10:9-10)

CONFESSING CHRIST AS LORD MEANS: • He is the Object of our heart’s affection, praise and worship (Rev 15:3-4).• surrendering to Him, by subjecting ourselves to His will, by ceasing to please ourselves (Col. 2:6)

CONFESSING CHRIST AS LORD MEANS: • Changed from being a lawless rebel into a loving and loyal subject (2 Cor. 5:17)• Holy Spirit’s work of spiritual renewal (1 Cor 12:3).

JESUS’ LORDSHIP IN THE SCRIPTURES:

John MacArthur: “Scripture never speaks of anyone “making” Christ Lord, except God himself, who “has made Him both Lord and Christ”. He is Lord of all, and the biblical mandate is not to “make” Christ Lord, but rather to bow to his lordship.”

“All who believe the Word of God will agree that Jesus is Lord. He is ever and always Lord, whether or not anyone acknowledges his lordship or surrenders to his authority.” John MacArthur

JESUS IS LORD:

1. Jesus Is God – (John 1:1; Col. 1:15-19; Col.2:9)

2. Jesus Is Sovereign – (John 10:17-18; Phil 2:6,9-12).

Marc Mueller : “He is the Almighty God, the Matchless Cosmic Sovereign, who as Creator and Redeemer (Jn. 1:9–13) has the right and power to demand compliance and submission to His imperial, veracious authority.”

3. Jesus Is Savior – (John 1:14; Acts 4:12; Rom. 5:8)John MacArthur: “When we invite people to receive Christ as Savior, we ask them to embrace One who is Lord and was declared to be so by God the Father, who also demands that every knee bow to his sovereignty.”

4. Jesus Is Lord - (Acts 10:36)

• Used 747 times in the New Testament.

• Acts refers to him as Lord 92 times, while calling him Savior only twice.

John MacArthur: “The signature of saving faith is surrender to the lordship of Jesus Christ. The definitive test of whether a person belongs to Christ is a willingness to bow to his divine authority.”

John Flavel: “The gospel offer of Christ includes all his offices, and gospel faith just so receives him; to submit to him, as well as to be redeemed by him; to imitate him in the holiness of his life, as well as to reap the purchases and fruits of his death. It must be an entire receiving of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

A. W. Tozer: “To urge men and women to believe in a divided Christ is bad teaching for no one can receive half of Christ, or a third of Christ, or a quarter of the Person of Christ! We are not saved by believing in an office nor in a work.”

THE LORDSHIP OF CHRIST IN THE BELIEVER (Implications):All of our aspirations as Christians and all the blessings and joys of the Christian life are ab solutely dependent on our practical submission to Jesus Christ as Lord of all.

J.W. Burn : “It is More agreeable to be saved by His sacrifice and to listen to His gracious words than to fight His battles and do His will.”

J.W. Burn : “Yet what honour to be the subjects of such a King; what safety to be under His protection; what honour must come from obedience to His rule.”

The practice of the lordship of Jesus Christ demands con stant submission .

 Gal. 6:14; 1 Cor. 6:19-20

All the problems in a Christian’s life can be traced to two ma jor reasons—sin and a lack of submission to Jesus Christ. Jude 3-4

Romans 9:21

We are to Continually Embrace Christ’s Sovereign Lordship in Our Lives.

Walt Henrichsen: “Have you ever considered how little of your life you control? Did you decide when you would be born? Or who your parents would be? Or in what country you would be born? Did you decide the color of your skin? Your eyes? Your hair? Did you decide your intelligence or your gifts and talents?

How about your height—did you determine that? Or your appearance, whether you would be good looking or rather plain? The answer to all these questions is no. In every one of these areas and in many more, you have no say in the matter. Your vote counts for absolutely nothing!”

We must identify and be willing to surrender all areas that challenge Christ’s authority in our lives. If He is to be Lord, He must have no rivals!

JESUS BE THE LORD OF ALL THE KINGDOMS OF MY HEART What would you do if Jesus came to your house for a day or twoIf He came unexpectedly just drop in on you

Oh I know you’d give your nicest roomto such an honored guest and all the food you’d serve to Him would be the very best

And you’d keep assuring Him you were glad to have Him thereThat serving Him in your home gave you joy beyond compare

But when you saw Him coming would you meet Him at the door with arms outstretched

Or would you have to change what you are wearing before you let Him inOr hide some magazines and put the Bible where they’ve been

Would you hide your worldly music and put some hymn books outCould you let Jesus walk right in or would you rush about

And I wonder if the Savior spend a day or two with youWould you go on doing the things you always doWould you go on saying the things you always sayWould life for you continue as it does from day to day

Would your family conversations keep up their usual paceWould you find it hard at mealtime to say the family graceWould you sing the songs you always sing and read the books you readWould you let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed

Could you take Jesus with you everywhere you plan to goOr would you have to change your plans for just a day or soWould you be glad for Him to meet your very closest friendsOr hope that they would stay away until His visit ends 

Would you be glad to have Jesus stay forever, on and onOr would you sigh with great relief when at last He was gone

Oh it might be interesting to know the things you doif Jesus came in person to spend some time with you
