Women at the Top: From Gender Bias to Gender Balance

Virginia E. Schein, Ph.D., Professor Emerita of Management and Psychology, Gettysburg College, is recognized internationally for her groundbreaking research on gender stereotyping and requisite management characteristics. Her widely cited research spans four decades and five continents Dr. Schein lectures worldwide on gender and leadership, most recently in the United Kingdom, France, Turkey, Poland and South Africa.

This panel takes an introspective approach and focuses on challenges that women face on their journeys to leadership, and explores ways women and men can collaborate in order to create an organization conducive for advancing women leaders.

Moderator: Dr. Vivi Hua, Psy.D., is President of Division of Women’s Issues at New York State Psychological Association. The afternoon panel will address systemic flaws in organizations, dealing directly with institutional obstacles to fairness including unconscious biases, the manifestation of bias in human resource practices, risk management, and more generally creating a healthy workplace for everyone.

Women in Leadership – Diverse and Global Perspectives

Jean Lau Chin, EdD, ABPP is Professor at Adelphi University in New York. She has held leadership roles as Academic Dean and Executive Director, and does research on global and diverse leadership especially with women and ethnic minorities. Her most recent book is: Global and Culturally Diverse Leaders and Leadership: Challenges for Business, Education and Society. She received three lifetime awards for her leadership and service roles within the American Psychological Association governance. She is currently running for APA President 2020.
