Kondinin/Hyden St John Ambulance
Ambulance subs become due at the end of March – reminder cards have been posted to current members. Payment ensures you are covered for all ambulance transports. If you do not have any ambulance cover you can join and pay at the Shire Office (Kondinin), or Library & Licensing Office (Hyden) at any time. Renewals can also be paid at these centres.
Family sub is $83 (less than $1.60 per week) Single sub is $50 (less than $1 per week)
NB: Once you turn 18 you are not covered under family membership and need to start an individual membership.
*** If you feel you are sub centre members and you do not receive a renew-
al notice by the end of March, please pay at Shire offices as above. If you are on a full pension and over 65 years of age you do not get a bill
for ambulance transports, but if you feel you would like to make a donation to help us provide the local service, we would appreciate your support.
Donations can be sent at any time to:
Kondinin/Hyden St John Ambulance PO Box 25, Hyden, 6359.
A reminder that employees coming into the district, either seasonally or per-
manently, should also consider a membership as the cost of an ambulance trip can be high compared to a single sub of $50.

MEDIA RELEASE 10 March 2016
SITA decision disappointing for Avon and Wheatbelt communities, Davies
Member for Central Wheatbelt Hon Mia Davies MLA has said the determination by the State Administra-
tive Tribunal (SAT) to grant conditional approval for the development of a major waste facility 18 kilome-
tres from York is disappointing and a blow for the community.
“The Shire and a number of local residents have been opposed to this proposal from day one, and have
made some reasonable arguments as to why the waste facility shouldn’t proceed in this location,” Ms
Davies said.
The proposal was also refused by the Wheatbelt Joint Development Assessment Panel twice.
Ms Davies said her major objection to the proposal was in relation to the increased traffic movements on
a winding road, and how it would impact on the amenity for tourists and locals driving in and out of the
historic town.
“I am also concerned this spells the beginning of other similar developments in the Avon arc and Wheat-
belt as the Perth metropolitan area’s volume of waste continues to increase,” Ms Davies said.
“While some communities in the electorate may see this type of development as an opportunity for jobs
and economic diversification this is not the case in York.
“I have raised the issue of a broader landfill strategy with the Minister for Environment previously and will
continue push for a more co-ordinated and strategic approach for landfill location planning.”
Ms Davies said her and colleague Hon Paul Brown had worked with the Wheatbelt Development Com-
mission to secure $50,000 of Royalties for Regions funding for a project to identify potential new sites for
landfill in the region in the absence of a broader State Government strategy.
“This project is currently underway using the Shire of Tammin as a case study,” she said.
“Ultimately we want to be able to identify locations in communities that make economic, environmental
and social sense.
“There’s no triple line benefit for the SITA proposal in York, the business has met its own internal eco-
nomic requirements and will be operating in a community that has clearly said they don’t want them in
their backyard.”
For media enquiries please contact Mia Davies MLA on 9041 1702 (Merredin Office), 9622 2871 (Northam of-
fice) or email [email protected]
