Welcome to
SAUNDERSFOOT BAY
FREE 2015
Croeso! Welcome to Saundersfoot!
You will not have failed to notice that there are many exciting new developments taking place in Saundersfoot.
Saundersfoot Chamber for Tourism(SCT) is also developing, we are updating our marketing approach to ensure we reach as many people as possible to create both an interest and desire to visit this part of Pembrokeshire as well as to provide a warm welcome on arrival.
Below is an outline of what SCT is proposing for 2015.
Events - we will continue to organise and grow the now established range of
Festival, New Year Fireworks and Big Bang Weekend with the aim to extend the quality and appeal of these occasions.
Our web-site is being refreshed to make it more accessible and integrated with
page with a very substantial where
all Saundersfoot Chamber member businesses are featured.
We are in discussions with Saundersfoot Community Forum and planning to support them in the continuation of a village newsletter similar to the very
-site. This will provide greater opportunities for regularly updated village information to be shared.
A colourful attractive Visitor Map of Saundersfoot Bay will be available from all members. The map provides visitors with an overview of the whole bay and the main walks and views that are within easy reach. are being planned to be located in prominent position(s) displaying the map around and along Saundersfoot Bay.
A new leaflet is being produced that advertises Saundersfoot Bay and 100,000 of these will be widely circulated and made available to both returning and potential new visitors.
Whenever it is possible and appropriate we will strive to support and work with key partner organisations and to also include and feature the businesses and
together we can best promote what an increasingly attractive, varied, desirable and well known visitor destination Saundersfoot and the whole Bay is.
We thank all the organisations that have supported us throughout the last twelve months, with special thanks to Saundersfoot Community Council, The Harbour Commissioners and Michael Davies, Harbour Manager, all of whom have helped in so many valued ways.
Our major challenge is that we are totally dependent on the time and efforts freely given by our volunteers for all aspects of what we do. Thank you to all members who have supported us (a list can be found in the centre of this booklet) and we ask all residents and visitors to the area in turn to support them. Thank You.

2015 Cawl Championship of the
The patron saint of Wales was celebrated in fine style in Saundersfoot. Gallons of cawl, dragons galore, Welsh cuisine to taste, make and buy and
and Craft Festival. The 350 commemorative cawl bowls were a speedy sell-out, and visitors enjoyed testing out six very different versions of this tasty Welsh delicacy, casting their votes for their favourite dish.
The eventual winner was The Old Chemist Inn, repeating its success of last year
served it with Welsh cheese and home-
Phil Odley, Chair of SCT said "The cawl trail was a big success, and every establishment was someone's favourite. We are very grateful to all the competitors at Coast, The Old Chemist Inn, The Mermaid on the Strand, The Hean and Philly's - their investment in this event does so much to support and promote Saundersfoot."

The 59th Saundersfoot Vintage Motorcycle Weekend 2014 The event began with the Friday social run starting from the host hotel the Merlewood. With the sun shining, the run commenced with a very good array of machines with some from the 20's & 30's era plus motorcycle combinations & three wheelers. About seventy members set off on route towards the bay at
Manorbier later passing the 12th century Norman castle at Carew and then on to Creswell Quay before continuing on to the lunch stop at Folly farm.
Saturday saw over 100 entrants assembled for the 10.00am start on the harbour. Normandy veteran dispatch rider Mr Gordon Prime, who was awarded Legion at the 70th D Day celebrations and Aled Rees of Crymych riding the oldest machine, his late fathers 1921 triumph, set off the
race. The 80 mile route meandered along the Pembrokeshire lanes to the Gwaun valley check point and finishing the morning in Newport for a lunch stop
before returning to Saundersfoot through the Preseli hills. The day was rounded off at the Merlewood for dinner
Sunday morning dawned another really sunny warm day for the machine display and judging on the harbour. Most interesting machine was won by A & D Webber, 1937 AJS. Best WSW machine - I & D Davies, Royal Enfield. Travellers award went to H & M Graham, Lomax three wheeler. Best vintage D Jones,1929 ARIEL. Best post vintage D & S Spencer, Triumph. Best post war S Joseph, BSA. Best classic P J Mahull, BMW. Many other awards were presented along with awards to Pembrokeshire entrants S Hodges, A Devall Jnr. M Chesterton. This years time trial winner and the founders cup, went to local motorcycle dealer and former village resident Mr A Devall.
