As per police sources, Digiana police arrested two mobile snatchers identified as Ajay Kumar, son of Joginder Kumar of Hansel Chowk, Bishnah and Shammy Kumar, son of Ram Bitta of Rehal, Bishnah, few days back. A case under FIR number 252/15 under Section 382 RPC was registered against them at Gandhi Nagar police station and investigation started. During sustained question- ing, more recoveries were made on the disclosures of these accused persons. Police recovered a Passion Pro motorcycle, which was stolen from Bus Stand area, Yamaha FZ motorcycle, which was stolen from Bahu Plaza, Trikuta Nagar and I-Pad, which they had snatched from a person in Digiana area. The accused further dis- closed that the motorcycle which was earlier recovered from them was stolen from Baba Sidh Goria, Mandir Swankha Morh, Samba. Further investigation into the case is going on. The recoveries were made by Incharge Police Post Digiana SI Pawan Dogra and SHO Police Station Gandhi Nagar Inspector Bishnesh Kumar under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SP South Uday Bhaskar Billa and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand. Excelsior Correspondent RAMBAN, Oct 3: Batote police arrested a truck driver and recovered 1.25 quintals of poppy straw (bhukki) from his possession. As per police sources, on a specific information, police team from Batote police station intercepted a truck bearing reg- istration number PB07D-5565 at Ladhwal Morh. During checking, 7 bags containing poppy straw weigh- ing around 1.25 quintals were found concealed in the truck. Accordingly, the truck driver namely Rajvinder Singh alias Jinder, son of Darshan Singh, a resident of Kapurthala, Punjab was arrested on the spot. The truck alongwith poppy straw was also seized on the spot. A case under relevant Sections has been registered at police station Batote and inves- tigation started. Police team led by SHO Batote police station Inspector Arun Kotwal made the arrest under the supervision of SSP Ramban Randeep Kumar. Lightning leads to panic in Srinagar Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Panic gripped Srinagar after thunder- storm and lightning damaged electronic and telecommunica- tion equipment in Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar. The lightning and thunders stuck the city at around 7:23 PM triggering panic and fear among the residents. The lightning fol- lowed by deafening explosions led to panic with people trying to take cover for safety. Due to thunders, the electric- ity in Lal Chowk and Batamaloo and several areas of city centre was snapped. The Director of Meteorological Department Sonam Lotus told Excelsior that the thunderstorm was "usual" and urged people not to panic. "It was not a cloudburst but a thun- derstorm which stuck in the mid- dle of City and that is why peo- ple felt its intensity more. There was no damage and people need not to panic. We were not pre- dicting this thunderstorm in the day. But then couple of hours before the thunderstorm, there was its prediction," he said. Following the thunderstorm, light rain lashed parts of city and continued for nearly an hour. Reports said that the com- puters and other electronic equipments at Police Control Room (PCR) Srinagar were damaged due to lightning. They said the hotline and other wire- less communication system were also affected as the anten- nas attracted the lightning. The resource person was Dr Aarti Bakshi, HoD, Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, Jammu. Dr Renu Gupta, Principal and Director, MIER presided over the function. HoDs of various Departments of the College besides the staff and students of the BEd and MEd were present on the occasion. At the commencement of the programme, a wall magazine based on the topic "Women and Self-esteem" was inaugurated by the resource person. In her welcome address, Dr Renu Gupta said, "There is a correlation between self-esteem and achievement of a student or a person. Self-esteem and relat- ed emotions instill a sense of success and the confidence when a set goal is accomplished. Stereotype roles in the society also have impact on the self- esteem of an individual. Therefore, there is need to improve the self-esteem of young women". In her address, Dr Bakshi told the audience that self- esteem reflects a person's over- all emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. It is a judg- ment of oneself as well as an attitude toward the self. Self- esteem encompasses belief as well as emotions. She explained the audience 12 steps to enhance one's self-esteem and urged the young audience to incor- porate that in their life for high self- esteem and always feel good about them. The lecture was followed by an interactive session in which the audi- ence participated enthusiastical- ly and posed their queries. CAPD to provide 35 kg ration per family: Pawan Excelsior Correspondent UDHAMPUR, Oct 3: The Minister of State for Finance and Information Technology, Pawan Kumar Gupta today said that the people of Udhampur district will now be provided 35Kg ration per family from existing 25 kg/ family from the month of October, 2015. Talking to media persons, he said that Government is com- mitted to provide corruption free, transparent and good quali- ty of supply of ration to the peo- ple. He instructed AD CA&PD Joginder Singh, to provide good quality and authorized amount of ration to the people of the dis- trict and keep a regular check on the quality and distribution of the ration. He said that strict action would be initiated against the defaulters if any for stream- lining the ration distribution in the area. Minister assured that Government is committed for the opening of 200 new ration depot in the area so that people of the area would get ration without any problem. He also informed that a new amusement park would soon be developed in the town for which the land has been already identified.He also added that the Govt had already initiated a lot of devel- opment works for the cleanli- ness of Devika and construction of new sports grounds in the Udhampur. Discussing the arrangements to be made by Tourism Department and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for the event, the DDC was apprised of the events to be organized at Katra during the Navratra festi- val commencing from 13th October. Govt to take stern action against culprits of domestic violence: Asiea Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Asiea Naqash today said that the Burn Care Ward at SMHS Hospital would be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 4. 45 crore. The Minister said this while visiting SMHS Hospital. She inspected various wards at the Hospital including Burn Ward, Emergency Surgical and Disaster Multi Causality Ward and took stock of the facilities and other treatment being pro- vided to the patients there. The Minister directed the hospital administration to ensure every possible help to the patients. She also stressed on maintaining cleanliness in and around the hospital. While inspecting the Burn Ward, the Minister was informed that 22 patients includ- ing 12 patients in Surgical Ward are under treatment. Responding to the demands put forth by the people at Hospital, Ms Asiea said that the sanitary units at an estimated cost of Rs 6 lakh will be con- structed soon. Interacting with mediaper- sons on the sidelines of the visit, the Minister said that the domes- tic violence is heart wrenching and Government is serious in this regard. She was addressing a gath- ering of women workers in Mohalla Dalpathian, Ward No 5 Jammu. The meeting was organ- ised by provincial vice president of Women Wing, Manveer Kaur. Speaking on the occasion, Satwant Kaur alleged that the common-man was bearing the brunt of the BJP-PDP Coalition Government which had brought developmental works through- out the State to a grinding halt. A police spokesman said a tri-cycle met with an accident near Lasjan in Nowgam area of city here resulting in death of cyclist identified as Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh who was a resident of West Bengal. "The body of deceased has been taken into custody for medico-legal for- malities," he said. In another accident, the spokesman said, a person identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Malik who was injured in a road accident on October 1st at M A road here succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura. "The body was handed over to legal heirs for last rites after completing legal formalities," the spokesman said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard. Addressing the meeting Mr Bambroo said the history was created after the shutters of Devibal Asthapan in Anantnag town were opened for the first time after the mass exodus of Pandits from Valley on the occa- sion of Anant Chaturdashi. As per police sources, on aspecific information, policeteam from Batote police stationintercepted a truck bearing reg-istration number PB07D-5565 atLadhwal Morh.
During checking, 7 bagscontaining poppy straw weigh-ing around 1.25 quintals werefound concealed in the truck.
Accordingly, the truck drivernamely Rajvinder Singh aliasJinder, son of Darshan Singh, aresident of Kapurthala, Punjabwas arrested on the spot. Thetruck alongwith poppy strawwas also seized on the spot.

SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Panicgripped Srinagar after thunder-storm and lightning damagedelectronic and telecommunica-tion equipment in Police ControlRoom (PCR) Srinagar.
The lightning and thundersstuck the city at around 7:23 PMtriggering panic and fear amongthe residents. The lightning fol-lowed by deafening explosionsled to panic with people tryingto take cover for safety.
Due to thunders, the electric-ity in Lal Chowk and Batamalooand several areas of city centrewas snapped.
The Director ofMeteorological DepartmentSonam Lotus told Excelsior thatthe thunderstorm was "usual"
and urged people not to panic. "Itwas not a cloudburst but a thun-derstorm which stuck in the mid-dle of City and that is why peo-ple felt its intensity more. Therewas no damage and people neednot to panic. We were not pre-dicting this thunderstorm in theday. But then couple of hoursbefore the thunderstorm, therewas its prediction," he said.
Following the thunderstorm,light rain lashed parts of city andcontinued for nearly an hour.
Reports said that the com-puters and other electronicequipments at Police ControlRoom (PCR) Srinagar weredamaged due to lightning. Theysaid the hotline and other wire-less communication systemwere also affected as the anten-nas attracted the lightning.

SRINAGAR, Oct 3:Minister of State for Health andSocial Welfare, Asiea Naqashtoday said that the Burn CareWard at SMHS Hospital wouldbe upgraded at an estimated costof Rs 4. 45 crore.
The Minister said this whilevisiting SMHS Hospital. Sheinspected various wards at theHospital including Burn Ward,Emergency Surgical andDisaster Multi Causality Wardand took stock of the facilitiesand other treatment being pro-vided to the patients there.
The Minister directed thehospital administration to ensureevery possible help to thepatients. She also stressed onmaintaining cleanliness in andaround the hospital.
While inspecting the BurnWard, the Minister wasinformed that 22 patients includ-ing 12 patients in Surgical Wardare under treatment.
Responding to the demandsput forth by the people atHospital, Ms Asiea said that the
sanitary units at an estimatedcost of Rs 6 lakh will be con-structed soon.
