A Grade Well, since our last newsletter it has finally happened, we got that first win on the board. It was a great team game by the boys against Echunga and right from the word go we were able to get a jump on them. With 15 scoring shots to two in the first quarter, we were able to gain some much needed confidence, from there the boys did not let up and ran out comfortable 10-goal winners. The most pleasing aspect of the game was that all 21 players contributed and this was shown by the fact we had 10 goal kickers, an excellent effort. Richard Gerschwitz was named best player and deservedly received the Lofty Legends best player medallion. Others to play well included Mark Nielsen, Alex Weeks, Brad Burch and Joel Van Paridon. Last week we travelled to Ironbank to take on a team we felt we had a great chance of beating. Unfortunately, in the game, we never got our run going and ended up losing by five goals. Some positive aspects from that game included the form of Mark Nielson who was outstanding at centre half forward, Kieran Artis and Damon Petersen who held down vital roles in the back lines. Congratulations also goes to Tom Welsby who played his first A-grade game, an excellent and well deserved effort from one of our U17 players. Today we take on a top five team in Blackwood, a game we can certainly win if all 21 players contribute. It will be great to have Sasha Oerhli, Franky Clements, Phil Bates and Hunter Bennett back into the A grade side, all greatly missed last week. Hopefully the conditions hold out and I look forward to catching you all tonight at the Sportsmans night at the club. BRUCE DAWES, A-GRADE COACH Coming up... Next women’s game... Mt Lofty WomenThe women’s team got an idea of what it will take to compete for the premiership last Sunday when we were held goal-less in an 87-point loss to competition powerhouse Morphettville Park – our first loss of the season. While it was a disappointing result, the girls aren’t dwelling on it and are using it as a valuable learning experience. Unfortunately the injury curse struck again with the in-form Siobhan Goode struck down by a wrist injury – we wish her a speedy recovery. Unfortunately nasty injuries have been all too common lately, here’s hoping that we have seen the last of them! Last Sunday our defence stood tall against a severe amount of pressure from their experienced opponents, with Bec Northcott, Kim Lawson,

Laycee Dawson, Siobhan Goode and Georgie Collins all turning in great performances.

We commence the second half of the season tomorrow afternoon against Adelaide University – from 3pm at Adelaide Uni Park 10 Oval – who we defeated in our memorable first ever game back in April. Uni are coming off a thumping win last weekend, so our team will need to be at the top of our game to get a positive result. Come on out and support the girls as we aim to return to the winners list!

B GradeG’day all and welcome to Arkpark for our first home game of round 2. The supa B’s finished off a disappointing round 1 with a good win over Echunga. Last week we went down to Ironbank by way too much considering they had only three more scoring shots than us.

There are so many positives with this group of men, they are a tight team, they train in good numbers, they’re willing to help around the club and they support the other teams in the club. With so many numbers on the track selection is always a nightmare for me but I endeavour to field a great and fair side.

With winter well and truly upon us, the supa B’s are keen to start knocking the suitcase out off the opposition and that starts today. This will be a cracking contest.

Thankyou! The Lofty Legends Group would like to sincerely thank the large number of people (around 140) who attended the Annual Reunion at our last home match, to make it one of the most successful and enjoyable reunions held in some years. We are also extremely grateful to all who assisted in the running of the event and to Club President, Kym Welsby, who sent a letter to the Lofty Legends Group, thanking everybody for the successful day.

As most would know, collections were made on the day for past player Zander Uren who is suffering a very rare and aggressive stomach cancer. A total of $306 was raised and Senior Players very generously donated another $119.65

following training on Tuesday 14 June. Further donations for Zander and his young daughter Tully, can still be made via www.gofundme.com/ZanderU
