This trip list follows the taxonomic order and nomenclature of Clements 6th Edition (updated 2014). The status of the threatened bird species is taken from Birdlife International (Threatened

Species).

*Brown Tinamou (Crypturellus obsoletus): One heard along the Macuco Trail, Iguazu NP Oct

11th.

Tataupa Tinamou (Crypturellus tataupa): One heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th and another

briefly seen walking in vegetation beside a trail Oct 15th.

Red-winged Tinamou (Rhynchotus rufescens): One seen at edge of road en route to Campana

Oct 21st.

Spotted Nothura (Nothura maculosa): Good looks of one crossing the road at El Palmar NP Oct

24th.

(1) Screamers – Anhimidae

Southern Screamer (Chauna torquata): One seen at a wetland by the highway en route to

Campana Oct 21st. About 10 observed en route to El Palmar Oct 23rd and about the same number

at Ceibas Oct 25th.

(11) Ducks - Anatidae White-faced Whistling-Duck (Dendrocygna viduata): Small flocks (totaling 50) were at

wetlands by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21st. Four were at La Aurora del Palmar Oct

23rd and 30 were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Black-necked Swan (Cygnus melanocoryphus): Over 100 seen at wetlands by the highway en

route to Campana Oct 21st.

Coscoroba Swan (Coscoroba coscoroba): Thirty seen at a wetland by the highway en route to

Campana Oct 21st; 20 were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and 30 on Oct 20th.

Ringed Teal (Callonetta leucophrys): Three were at the entrance to Costanera Sur Oct 18th. One

was perched on the railing and quite tame.

Brazilian Teal (Amazonetta brasiliensis): Two were seen as flyovers at Iguazu NP Oct 10th. Two

were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th and a pair at La Aurora del Palmar Oct 23rd.

Chiloe (Southern) Wigeon (Anas sibilatrix): Two seen at a wetland by the highway en route to

Campana Oct 21st.

Cinnamon Teal (Anas cyanoptera): Eight seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana

Oct 21st.

Red Shoveler (Anas platalea): One seen at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct

21st.

Yellow-billed Pintail (Anas georgica): Five seen at a wetland by the highway en route to

Campana Oct 21st. Three observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and two on Oct 20th.

Yellow-billed (Speckled) Teal (Anas flavirostris): Four (female with young) were at Costanera

Sur Oct 18th. Ten were seen at a wetland by the highway, en route to Campana Oct 21st. Eight

observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and six on Oct 20th.

Rosy-billed Pochard (Netta peposaca): Six were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

(2) Guans, Chachalacas - Cracidae

Rusty-margined Guan (Penelope superciliaris): One briefly seen at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th.

*Dusky-legged Guan (Penelope obscura): Heard at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd.

(1) Quails – Odontophoridae

Spot-winged Wood-Quail (Odontophorus capueira): One flushed from the trail in the hill forest behind San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th.

(2) Grebes - Podicipedidae

White-tufted Grebe (Rollandia rolland): One seen at a wetland by the highway en route to

Campana Oct 21st.

Pied-billed Grebe (Podilymbus podiceps): Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Two seen were

at a wetland by the highway en route to Campana Oct 21st and a single at Ceibas wetlands Oct

25th.

(1) Flamingos - Phoenicopteridae Chilean Flamingo (Phoenicopterus chilensis) Near-threatened: Several seen at Punta Rasa

Reserve Oct 19th and 20th.

(1) Storks – Ciconiidae

Maguari Stork (Ciconia maguari): Approximately 15 was seen en route to San Clemente Oct18th. Singles observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and Oct 20th. Fifteen were seen in fields along

the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. One was soaring near Otamendi

Reserve Oct 22nd. Five were seen in over flight at El Palmar Oct 23rd and 10 were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

(1) Cormorants - Phalacrocoracidae

Neotropic Cormorant (Phalacrocorax brasilianus): Ten were seen at Iguazu NP on Oct 10th and

a few along the river at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th. Ten were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. About 15 observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and over 50 Oct 20th. Four were at El Palmar NP Oct 24th and

five at Ceibas wetlands Oct 25th.

(1) Anhingas - Anhingidae

Anhinga (Anhinga anhinga): Two were seen along the river at Iguazu NP on Oct 10th and one was seen at swimming body submerged in a pond Ceibas wetlands Oct 25th.

(8) Herons - Ardeidae

Rufescent Tiger-Heron (Tigrisoma lineatum): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-

13th and one heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

Cocoi (Black-necked) Heron (Ardea cocoi): One observed at Punta Rasa on Oct 20th. One was

seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. One was seen

at El Palmar Oct 24th and three at Ceibas wetlands on Oct 25th.

Great Egret (Egretta alba): Two were seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th and another at San Sebastian

Lodge Oct 13th. Five were seen during the drive to San Clement Oct 18th. Two observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and eight Oct 20th. Over 25 were seen in fields along the highway from San

Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Singles were seen at El Palmar NP Oct 23-24th and four

at Ceibas wetlands on Oct 25th.

Snowy Egret (Egretta thula): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-13th. One

observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and two Oct 20th. Two were seen in fields along the highway

from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. One was at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and two at Ceibas wetlands Oct 25th.

Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis): Around one hundred were observed at a night roost at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th and 13th. Over 200 were seen in fields en route to San Clemente Oct

18th. Thirty were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct

21st.

Striated Heron (Butorides striatus): Singles were seen at San Sebastian lodge Oct 12-13th and at

Surucua Lodge Oct 14-15th.

Whistling Heron (Syrigma sibilatrix): One seen in over flight at El Palmar Oct 24th and two at

Ceibas wetlands Oct 25th.

Black-crowned Night-Heron (Nycticorax nycticorax): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge

Oct 12-13th

(4) Ibises – Threskiornithidae

White-faced Ibis (Plegadis chihi): Over 500 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Thirty seen en route to El Palmar Oct 23rd and over 50 at

Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

*Green Ibis (Mesembrinibis cayennensis): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 15th.

Bare-faced Ibis (Phimosus infuscatus): Four were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and over

30 at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Roseate Spoonbill (Platalea ajaja): Three observed at Punta Rasa on Oct 20th.

(3) New World Vultures - Cathartidae

Black Vulture (Coragyps atratus): Small numbers were seen daily in Misiones Province.

Turkey Vulture (Cathartes aura): Small numbers were seen daily in Misiones Province. Five were at El Palmar Oct 23rd and a few seen there Oct 24th.

King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa): Good looks of an adult perched with other vultures at San

Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th.

(7) Hawks - Accipitridae

White-tailed Kite (Elanus leucurus): Two were seen during the drive to San Clement Oct 18th.

Snail Kite (Rostrhamus sociabilis): One observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th. One was seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Four were seen at Ceibas

marshes Oct 25th.

Plumbeous Kite (Ictinia plumbea): Two seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th, and 15 at San Sebastian

Lodge Oct 13 and 14th.

Long-winged Harrier (Circus buffoni): Two were seen during the drive to San Clemente Oct

18th. Three observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and five Oct 20th. Two were seen in fields along the

highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Two were seen at Otamendi Reserve

Oct 22nd and three at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Cinereous Harrier (Circus cinereus): One was at Abra Pampa Oct 2nd and two were seen at

Lago Pozuelos Oct 3rd. One observed at Punta Rasa Oct 19th.

Roadside Hawk (Buteo magnirostris): Singles were seen daily at San Sebastian and Surucua

Lodges Oct 12-15th. Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. One was at Punta Rasa Oct 19th. Three

were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Two were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and a couple ad day at El Palmar and Ceibas marshes

Oct 23-25th.

Harris’s Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus): Two observed at El Palmar Oct 24th.

(10) Rails – Rallidae

Giant Wood-Rail (Aramides ypecaha): Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. One was seen at the

marsh at El Palmar Oct 23rd and over 20 at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Slaty-breasted Wood-Rail (Aramides saracura) Vulnerable: Singles (going to the feeder) were

at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-13th and five were observed Oct 14th. One was heard at Surucua

Lodge Oct 15th.

*Blackish Rail (Pardirallus nigricans): One heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

Plumbeous Rail (Pardirallus sanguinolentus): Two were seen in wetlands along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Singles were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19-20th.

Common (Moorhen) Gallinule (Gallinula chloropus): A few were seen each day at the pond area, San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-14th. One was at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Ten were at Ceibas

marshes Oct 25th.

Spot-flanked Gallinule (Gallinula melanops): Three were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

Red-gartered Coot (Fulica armillata): Good looks of one at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Over 10

were seen in wetlands along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st.

Red-fronted Coot (Fulica rufifrons): Five seen at Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

White-winged Coot (Fulica leucoptera): Five were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

(1) Limpkins - Aramidae

*Limpkin (Aramus guarauna): One heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

(1) Sheathbills – Chionidae

Snowy Sheathbill (Chionis alba): One was seen at the tip of Punta Rasa on Oct 20th. Obviously a

vagrant.

(1) Stilts and Avocets - Recurvirostridae Black-necked Stilt (Himantopus mexicanus mexicanus): Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

Over 20 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and over 50 on the 20th. Twenty were

seen in wet fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Three were seen at La Aurora Del Palmar Oct 23rd.

(1) Oystercatchers - Haematopodidae

American Oystercatcher (Haematopus palliates): Several seen both days at Punta Rasa.

(4) Plovers - Charadriidae Black-bellied Plover (Pluvialis squatarola): Two were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct

19th and 20th

American Golden Plover (Pluvialis dominica): About 10 seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and 20 on

Oct 20th.

Southern Lapwing (Vanellus chilensis): Many observed in fields during the drive to San

Clemente Oct 18th. Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and 20th. Over 100

were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. A few were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and at El Palmar and Ceibas Oct 23rd-25th.

Semipalmated Plover (Charadrius semipalmatus): One was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area

Oct 20th.

(1) Jacanas – Jacanidae

Wattled Jacana (Jacana jacana): Two observed near the pond area Oct 12-13th at San Sebastian Lodge. Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. One was seen in fields along the highway from San

Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Two were seen at Aurora Del Palmar Oct 23rd and 15 at

Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

(9) Sandpipers - Scolopacidae Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius): Singles were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct

19th and 20th.

Solitary Sandpiper (Tringa solitaria): One flushed from the pond area at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th.

Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca): Five seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and

two on the 20th

Lesser Yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes): Five were seen in wet fields along the highway from San

Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct

19th and greater than 100 on Oct 20th

Hudsonian Godwit (Limosa haemastica): Over 75 seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and 50 on Oct

20th.

Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres): Singles were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct

19th and 20th.

Red Knot (Calidris canutus): Two were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th.

White-rumped Sandpiper (Calidris fuscicollis): Over 250 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and over 500 on Oct 20th.

South American Snipe (Gallinago paraguaiae): Four were seen in flight including a displaying male at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

(9) Gulls - Laridae

Brown-hooded Gull (Cirrocephalus maculipennis): Over 30 were seen in the Punta Rasa

Reserve area Oct 19th and over 10 on Oct 20th. Over 100 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st.

Gray-hooded Gull (Cirrocephalus cirrocephalus): Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and over 50 on Oct 20th. Over 100 were seen in fields along the highway from San

Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st.

Olrog’s (Band-tailed) Gull (Larus atlanticus): Breeding Endemic, Vulnerable: Five were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th.

Kelp Gull (Larus dominicus): Fifteen were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and over 500 on Oct 20th.

Common Tern (Sterna hirundo): Over 100 was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and

over 200 on the 20th

South American Tern (Sterna hirundinacea): Over 20 was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area

Oct 19th.

Snowy-crowned Tern (Sterna trudeaui): Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct

19th and over 500 on Oct 20th.

Royal Tern (Sterna maxima): Five were seen at the Punta Rasa Reserve tip area Oct 20th.

Sandwich (Cayenne) Tern (Sterna (eurygnatha) sandvicensis): One was seen roosting with other terns at the Punta Rasa Reserve tip area Oct 20th.

Black Skimmer (Rhynchops niger): Over 30 seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and

five Oct 20th.

(16) Pigeons - Columbidae

Rock Pigeon (Columba livia): Singles were at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-13th. Common and

widespread in the BA area: Many were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en

route to Campana Oct 21st. Many were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and Oct 20th. Many were observed at Campana Oct 22nd, in the El Palmar area Oct 23-34 and at Ceibas

marshes Oct 25th.

Pale-vented Pigeon (Patagioenas cayennensis): One was observed at Iguazu NP Oct 10th and a

few were seen daily at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-14th.

Picazuro Pigeon (Patagioenas picazuro): A few observed at Iguazu NP Oct 10th, en route to San

Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th, with two the following day. Two at Surucua Lodge on Oct 15th. Many

were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Many were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and over

50 on Oct 20th. Fairly common in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to

Campana Oct 21st. About 20 were observed at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and five en route to

Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Spot-winged Pigeon (Patagioenas maculosa): Ten were at El Palmar NP Oct 23rd and over 50

seen on the 25th. A few were noted en route to Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Ruddy Ground-Dove (Columbina talpacoti): Two at our lodge at Iguazu Oct 9th; and a few daily

at Iguazu Hummingbird Gardens and San Sebastian Lodge Oct 11-14th.

Scaled Dove (Columbina squammata): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th and a few

observed in fields driving back to Iguazu Oct 16th.

Picui Ground-Dove (Columbina picui): Two were seen in fields along the highway from San

Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Two were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th

and five on Oct 20th. Two were observed at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd. Two were noted at El

Palmar Oct 23rd and five on Oct 24th. Six were seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Ruddy Quail-Dove (Geotrygon montana): One heard at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th, and

singles seen at Surucua Lodge Oct 14-15th.

White-tipped Dove (Leptotila verreauxi): Five were at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th and two

seen on the 14th. One was observed at El Palmar Oct 23rd.

Grey-fronted Ground-Dove (Leptotila rufaxilla): One was observed at San Sebastian Lodge Oct

12th, two the following day and one at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

Eared Dove (Zenaida auriculata): Seen daily in the Iguazu area Oct 9-12th. Many were at

Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Over 100’s were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and Oct

20th. Over 100 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Ten were observed at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd. Thousands were at El Palmar Oct 23-

24.

(5) Cuckoos - Cuculidae

Ash-colored Cuckoo (Coccyzus cinereus): One was in a small tree beside the road at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Squirrel Cuckoo (Piaya cayana): Two were seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th and three along the

Macuco Trail Oct 11th; singles were at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodges Oct 13-15th.

Guira Cuckoo (Guira guira): Two were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th and three on Oct

*Tropical Screech-Owl (Megascops choliba): One was heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th.

*Black-capped (Long-tufted) Screech-Owl (Megascops atricapilla): Heard at San Sebastian

Lodge Oct 14-15th. Despite efforts and getting within 25 meters of the owl couldn’t locate it.

Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia): One was seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area on Oct 20th.

Mottled Owl (Ciccaba virgata): Heard at Surucua Lodge on Oct 14th and had great looks of one

using spotlights, perched in the open the following night.

Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and two on Oct 20th. Four were seen at El Palmar NP on Oct

Blond-crested Woodpecker (Celeus flavescens): Singles of this very pretty woodpecker were

observed at nest holes on Oct 14th near San Sebastian Lodge and at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

(6) Falcons - Falconidae Barred Forest-Falcon (Micastur ruficollis): Great looks were had of an immature perched low

over a path at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th.

Southern Caracara (Caracara plancus): Many were seen during the drive to San Clemente Oct

18th. Over 50 were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th. Over 50 were seen in fields

along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. A few were seen daily at El

Palmar and Ceibas marshes Oct 23rd-25th.

Yellow-headed Caracara (Milvago chimachima): One seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th and two at

Chimango Caracara (Milvago chimango): Many were seen at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Over 50

were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th 20 the following day. Over 50 were seen in

American Kestrel (Falco sparverius): Four were seen in fields along the highway from San

Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Four were seen at El Palmar Oct 24th and two at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus): An adult was seen roosting in a tree at El Palmar Oct 23rd and another was seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Monk Parakeet (Myiopsitta monachus): Ten were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Over 100 were seen

in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Over hundred were seen in the Punta Rasa Reserve area Oct 19th and Oct 20th. Hundreds were observed at Otamendi

Yellow-chevroned Parakeet (Brotogeris chiriri): Two were of this introduced parakeet was seen

flying over the entrance to Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

Scaly-headed Parrot (Pionus maximiliani): Four were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 4th, over 10 on the 13th, and six on Oct 15th. Two were at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

Blue-winged Parrotlet (Forpus xanthopterygius): A flock of six was seen in over flight at Iguazu NP Oct 10th.

Maroon-bellied Parakeet (Pyrrhura frontalis): Two seen perched in the forest at Macuco Trail, Iguazu NP Oct 11th; two at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th and five the 14th.

Black-hooded Parakeet (Nandayus nenday): Fifty of this introduced population was at the

entrance to Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

Blue-crowned Parakeet (Aratinga acuticaudata): Twenty were observed flying to evening roost

site at El Palmar Oct 23nd.

White-eyed Parakeet (Aratinga leucophthalmus): Common in Misiones Province with many

small flocks observed each day Oct 9-15th. Many were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th.

22nd and one at El Palmar Oct 24th.

Plush-capped Jay (Cyanocorax chrysops): Many were seen at Iguazu NP including many tame birds at eating areas Oct 10th. Fairly common at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodges, with several

seen daily Oct 12-15th.

(10) Swallows - Hirundinidae

Blue-and-White Swallow (Pygochelidon cyanoleuca): Many were seen at Iguazu falls Oct 10th and at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-13th.

Southern Rough-winged Swallow (Stelgidopteryx ruficollis): Five at Iguazu NP Oct 10th; two at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12th and five the following day.

Gray-breasted Martin (Progne chalybea): Many observed at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12-14th.

About fifteen were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Over 20 were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and over 50 on Oct 20th. About 10 were at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd; a few were seen at El Palmar Oct

23rd and at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Brown-chested Martin (Progne tapera): One was at Costanera Sur Oct 18th and two were seen

at Punta Rasa Oct 19th. A few were at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

White-winged Swallow (Tachycineta albiventer): Two observed at Iguazu Falls Oct 10th.

White-rumped Swallow (Tachycineta leucorrhoa): One at Iguazu NP Oct 10th. Over 50 were

seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Over 20 were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19-20th. About 10 were seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Bank Swallow (Riparia riparia): Two were observed with other swallows at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Barn Swallow (Hirundo rustica): One was seen en route to Surucua Lodge Oct 13th. Many were

at Costanera Sur Oct 18th and the drive to San Clemente. Over 50 were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Over 20 were seen at Punta Rasa Oct

19-20th. Over 50 were seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Cliff Swallow (Petrochelidon pyrrhonota): Eight were seen at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

House Wren (Troglodytes aedon): Several seen and heard daily in the highlands and in Misiones

Province Oct 10-13th, Oct 15th. Many were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Two were noted along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Several were seen and heard at Punta

Rasa Oct 19-20th. Several were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and at El Palmar NP and

Ceibas Oct 23-25th.

Masked Gnatcatcher (Polioptila dumicola): Eight were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Two were

seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and three at El Palmar NP Oct 24th.

(4) Thrushes - Turdidae Pale-breasted Thrush (Turdus leucomelas): Seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th, San Sebastian Lodge

Oct 12-13th (10 Oct 13th) and three at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

Rufous-bellied Thrush (Turdus rufiventris): Two were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 14th.

Many were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. One was seen at Punta Rasa Oct 20th. Over 20 were seen at

Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and a few each day at El Palmar and Ceibas Oct 23-25th.

Creamy-bellied Thrush (Turdus amaurochalinus): Singles were seen at San Sebastian Lodge

Oct 13th and Surucua Lodge Oct 15th. One was at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Two were seen at Punta

Rasa Oct 19th. About 10 were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd. Two were at El Palmar Oct 23 and a few at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Eastern Slaty Thrush (Turdus (nigriceps) subalaris): One heard, seen and photographed at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th. New for Adrianne’s (guide) lodge list.

21st. Four were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and two on Oct 20th. A few were seen at Otamendi

Reserve Oct 22nd and at El Palmar NP and Ceibas Oct 23rd-25th.

European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris): Common in the Buenos Aries area Sep 27th. Many were at

Costanera Sur Oct 18th and around Buenos Aries.

(1) Pipits - Motacillidae Short-billed Pipit (Anthus furcatus): About five wee seen in the dry grasslands around wetlands

north of Abra Pampa Oct 2nd.

(4) Wood Warbler - Parulidae

Masked Yellowthroat (Geothlypis aequinoctialis auricularis): One seen at San Sebastian Lodge on Oct 13th. Two were at Costanera Sur Oct 18th. Eight were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd

three at El Palmar Oct 23rd and two at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Tropical Parula (Parula pitiayumi): About 10 was seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th and two at San

Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th. One was seen at Punta Rasa Oct 20th. One was seen at Otamendi

Reserve Oct 22nd and two seen at El Palmar Oct 23-24th.

Golden-crowned Warbler (Basileuterus culicivorus): Five were seen at San Sebastian Lodge

Oct 13th, heard on the 14th and five seen at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th. One was at Costanera Sur Oct

18th. One was seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd and another at El Palmar NP Oct 24th.

*Riverbank (Buff-rumped) Warbler (Myiothlypis rivularis): Heard at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.

Red-crested Cardinal (Paroaria coronata): One was seen at El Palmar Oct 23rd and around 10 at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Magpie Tanager (Cissopis leveriana): A few seen daily at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodge Oct 12-15th.

Black-goggled Tanager (Trichothraupis melanops): Singles were seen along the Macuco trail,

Iguazu NP Oct 10-11th; two were seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th and a single at Surucua Lodge on Oct 15th.

Ruby-crowned Tanager (Tachyphonus coronatus): Four seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th; and 1-2 daily at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodges Oct 12-15th.

Diademed Tanager (Stephanophorus diadematus): Two were seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd; two at El Palmar Oct 23rd and five on Oct 24th.

Fawn-breasted Tanager (Pipraeidea melanonota): Great looks at a pair near the pond area San

Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th.

Blue-and-Yellow Tanager (Thraupis bonariensis): Four were seen at El Palmar Oct 24th and one

at Ceibas marshes Oct 25th.

Grassland Sparrow (Ammodramus humeralis): Fairly good looks of one were had at Ceibas

marshes Oct 25th.

Oct 18th. Many were seen in fields along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Several were seen and heard at Punta Rasa Oct 19-20th. Several were seen daily at

Otamendi, El Palmar and Ceibas Oct 22nd-25th.

Hepatic Tanager (Piranga flava): One was at El Palmar Oct 23rd and four Oct 24th.

Red-crowned Ant-Tanager (Habia rubica): One seen along the Macuco Trail, Iguazu NP Oct 11, two at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th and four on Oct 15th.

Glaucous-blue Grosbeak (Cyanoloxia glaucocaerulea): One heard and seen at El Palmar NP Oct 24th.

Ultramarine Grosbeak (Cyanocompsa brissonii): One was seen at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th. One

was heard and seen at Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd. Two were at El Palmar NP Oct 23rd.

White-browed Blackbird (Sturnella superciliaris): About five en route to San Clemente Oct

18th. About 10 were seen at Punta Rasa on Oct 20th.

Brown-and-Yellow Marshbird (Pseudoleistes virescens): About five en route to San Clemente Oct 18th. Over 40 were seen at Punta Rasa Oct 19th and 20 on Oct 20th. Over 50 were seen in

wetlands along the highway from San Clemente en route to Campana Oct 21st. Five were seen at

Otamendi Reserve Oct 22nd, 10 at El Palmar Oct 23rd five on the 24th, and over 100 at Ceibas

marshes Oct 25th.

Red-rumped Cacique (Cacicus haemorrhous): About 15 seen at Iguazu NP Oct 10th, fairly

common at San Sebastian and Surucua Lodge with 10-15 observed daily Oct 13-15th.

Rufous-headed Short-tailed Opossum (Monodelphis scallops): One observed running across the

track in front of us along the river track and another at Macuco trail, Iguazu NP Oct 10th.

Brown Four-eyed Opossum (Metachirus nudicordatus): One observed being mobbed by Plush-capped Jays at Iguazu NP Oct 10th.

Armadillos - Xenarthra

Nine-banded Long-nosed Armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus): One observed crossing the road at

dusk near the beach area Oct 23rd.

Six-banded (Yellow) Armadillo (Euphractus sexcinus): Two watched copulating at side of road at

El Mirador track, El Palmar NP Oct 24th. Photographed.

Monkeys – Primates

Brown Capuchin (Cebus apella): Two capuchins observed near the eating area at Iguazu NP Oct 10th.

Carnivores – Carnivora

Crab-eating Fox (Cerdocyn thous): Two observed at the Arroyo Los Loros track, one at the

Mirador el Palmar track and another near the beach parking lot Oct 23 rd at El Palmar. Two seen

on tracks the following day.

South American Coati (Nasua nasua): A few seen wandering around the eating areas at Iguazu NP Oct 10th and another seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 13th.

Rodents - Rodentia

Brazilian Squirrel (Sciurus aestrans): One watched in tree at Surucua Lodge Oct 14th.

Azara’s Agouti (Dasyprocta azarae): Four seen grazing on the entrance lawns of Iguazu NP Oct 10th.

Capybara (Hydrochoerus hydrochoerus): Two seen at San Sebastian Lodge Oct 12 and five on Oct 13. Several seen including a female with nursing young at the Mirador El Palmar track,

Arroyo Los Loros track and the track to the campsite at El Palmar NP Oct 23. Dozens were seen

the following day at the same spot.

European Hare (Lepus europaeus): One was observed at close range “frozen” at Punta Rasa Oct

Brazilian (Tapiti) Rabbit (Sylvilagus brasiliensis): One observed crossing the trail at in the

evening at Surucua Lodge Oct 15th.
