PREFACE
It is said that reading is the key to every door in the world however
reading is not always easy. This study is focused on teaching reading through
picture book that is conducted in grade 2-A of Candle Tree Elementary School.
Observation had been done to engage directly with the learning process conducted
in the class. The object of the observation are teaching material, activities and the
result of using picture book in teaching reading.
Hopefully this study could be advantageous and could be as further
information on teaching reading especially teaching reading through picture
books.

ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to find out what the teaching reading materials are delivered for young learners, the class activity given to arouse the learners’ curiosity and motivation and the learning result to be analyzed. This study deals with picture books used in teaching reading, the activities done to support teaching process and to analyze the result of pupils’ comprehension in teaching reading using picture books. Picture books are used to support the teaching reading process because picture book can stimulate the good eye and brain coordination of the young learners. Qualitative method was used to analyze the data of the study. Collecting data was done by attending the class and observing the process of teaching reading while it was taking place, and interviewing the English teacher. Communicative Language Teaching method (CLT) is appropriate approach for teaching reading in the class.
Key words: Teaching Reading, Picture books, material, activity, result, qualitative method, CLT (communicative Language Teaching) interview and observation.

ABSTRAK
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan bahan pelajaran membaca yang di berikan untuk anak-anak, kegiatan kelas yang dilakukan untuk mendukung terlaksananya proses pembelajaran di kelas, dan untuk menganalisa hasil belajar siswa terhadap materi pelajaran yang sudah diberikan di kelas. Penelitian ini berhubungan dengan penggunaan Buku bergambar yang digunakan dalam pengajaran,kegiatan belajar mengajar dan menganalisa data hasil belajar siswa. Buku bergambar sangat membantu siswa dalam mengembangkan koordinasi yang baik antar visual dan daya pikir sehingga buku bergambar sangat bermanfaat untuk memotifasi anak agar lebih bersemangat dalam belajar. Metode qualitative diterapkan dalam mengumpulkan data. Data diperoleh melalui pengamatan dan melakukan Tanya jawab dengan guru pengampu pelajaran bahasa Inggris. Metode pengajaran yang seusai untuk diterapkan dalam proses pelajaran membaca adalah CLT (communicative Language Teaching)
Kata Kunci: Buku bergambar, Bahan pelajaran, Kegiatan pembelajaran, hasil belajar, CLT, wawancara dan pengamatan.
