منذ سنتني ونصف، ذهبت الى اسرائيل مع فصلي. كنت في الفصل الثاني، وكل سنة، يذهب الفصل الثاني في مدرستي الى اسرائيل السبوعني. قبل الرحلة، درسنا كثير عن اسرائيل وعن تاريخ اليهود. اواًل، وصلنا في املطر في تل ابيب، في طائرة كبيرة. ثم، ذهبنا الى القدس. صلينا في الجدار الغرب.

ذهبنا الى الشمال، واملدن العتيقة. سبحنا في حمامات السباحة في الساخنة. ايضًا، ذهبنا الىالجنوب. ذهبنا الى مسعدة، وسبحنا في البحر املوت. الرحلة كانت ممتعة، واخيرًا، ذهبنا اى البيت.

1. Calentar un sartén de 12 pulgadas a fuego medio. 2. Echa spray antiadherente para cocinar en aerosol en una tortilla. Colóquelo sobre un sartén caliente durante 1 minuto y voltea la tortilla. 3. J’entendais toutes sortes de raisons pour lesquelles je devrais venir, mais vraiment ce qui compte c’est mon avis. Pas l’avis des autres. C’est moi qui déménage, pas eux !

« Mais un déménagement… » Je me dis« Ce n’est pas si simple que ca ! »           

A ce moment là, je me rends compte de la galère dans laquelle je viens d’entrer. Le rangement, le tri, les cartons, et bien plus que ça ! Jusque là, ce déménagement était juste une idée, juste une idée à laquelle je pensais de temps en temps. Mais quand le paquet de carton est arrivé, tout est devenu réal-ité. Tout ce dont à quoi je pensais pendant les semaines passées est devenu réalité. Il fallait que je trie toute ma chambre : impossible ! Que je mette tout dans des cartons : impossible ! Que je décide quoi garder et quoi jeter : impossible ! Avec une tonne d’énergie et surtout de courage, j’ai fait tout ce qu’il fallait pour transformer tout en possible, et tout était finalement prêt a partir. La seule chose qui était dans ma tête maintenant était l’interview avec l’école. Après tout, il suffit de répondre aux questions posées simplement et honnêtement. J’étais un peu tendue mais finalement l’interview s’est très bien passée !

Des synagogues, des magasins dont les juifs sont propriétaires et des restaurants appartenants à des juifs ont été brûlés. Les Juifs sont également harcelés dans les rues. Bien que ce fut un été particulièrement mauvais, la France a toujours eu un certain niveau d’antisémitisme. En 2012, qua-tre personnes, dont trois enfants, ont été tués lors d’une fusillade dans une école juive à Toulouse. Dans la première moitié de 2013, 276 incidents antisémites ont eu lieu. L’année suivante, les chif-fres ont presque doublé. Dans la première moitié de 2014, 527 incidents antisémites ont eu lieu. La France est devenue un endroit dangereux pour les Juifs. En conséquence, de nombreux Juifs ont fui en Israël. Cela a représenté la plus grande Aliyah de France de tous temps modernes.

I’m not schizo, I’m bilingual! Parler en français à la maison et en anglais à l’école pourrait être une tâche difficile . Votre esprit doit être en mesure de passer d’une langue à l’autre en quelques minutes . Dans l’environnement de l’école, vous devez être en mesure de reconnaître que vous avez à parler anglais, mais lorsque vous quittez à la fin de la journée, vous devez commencer à parler français. Parfois, à l’école, quand j’entends mes amis parler anglais, moi je pense à la reponse en français. Aussi, en de rares occasions, j’ai répondu à une question en français et ensuite j’ai réalisé que j’étais classe d’anglais ou hébreu . Parler une langue supplémentaire c’est un cadeau que je vais apprécier pour le reste de ma vie et je l’espère, je pourrai le partager avec beaucoup de gens.

Speaking in French at home and English in school could be a difficult task. Your mind has to be able to shift from one language to another within minutes. In the school environment you have to be able to recognize that English is the correct language, but when you leave at the end of the day you have to begin speaking French again. Sometimes in school, I hear people speak English however, I think of the answer in French in my mind. Also on rare occasions, I might answer a question in French and then suddenly realize I am in English or He-brew class. Speaking an additional language is a gift I will appreciate for the rest of my life and I hope I can share it with many people to come.

Eden, meine Schwester, hat es geliebt ein Jahr an der SAR High School zu verbringen, deshalb wollte ich natürlich auch kommen! Nebenbei sie vermisst die Schule noch immer sehr, sie hat wirklich jede einzelne Sekunde hier genossen!

Es gibt ein paar Dinge, die ihr über mich wis-sen solltet. Mein Name ist Noa Kosman. Ich wurde in Köln, Deutsch-land als Tochter eines israelischen Vaters und einer deutschen Mutter geboren. Ich bin in einen jüdischen Kindergarten und in eine Grundschule gegangen. Im deutschem System ist die Grund-schule bis zur 4. Klasse. Dann geht man zu einer weiterführenden Schule bis zur 12. Klasse. Jede Stufe in der jüdischen Gr-undschule hatte ca. 13 bis 18 Schüler. In den ersten fünf Unterrichtsstunden hatten wir Unterricht wie in jeder anderen Schule. Wir lernten Mathe, Deutsch, Biologie, Erd-kunde, Sport und ab der dritten Klasse Englisch. Keine der Lehrerinnen waren jüdisch. In den letzten 3 Stunden lernten wir Hebräisch und die Grundzüge der Thora und der Feiertagen mit Lehre-rinnen und Lehrern, die auch zum Teil aus Israel als Schlichut nach Köln kamen. Ich habe die 4

Jahre in der Grundschule sehr genossen, ich hatte sehr viel Spaß.

Nach 4 Jahren Grund-schule bin ich mit meiner besten jüdischen Freun-din aus der Grundschule in eine staatliche Schule, namens Gymnasium, gegangen, aber wir haben weiterhin “Religionsun-terricht“ in der großen Synagoge in Köln gehabt. Alle Schüler in meiner Stufe sind nicht jüdisch, außer meiner besten Freundin und mir. Es war überhaupt nicht schwer neue Freundschaften zu schließen. Ich denke, dass es im Alter von 10 Jahren nicht wichtig ist, von wo man herkommt und welche Religion jedes Kind hat. Wir waren eine gemischte Klasse von Christen, einer Muslimin, zwei Juden und der Rest Atheisten, die trotzdem Weihnachten feiern. Die Schüler in meiner Stufe haben kein Problem, dass ich jüdisch bin, im Gegenteil, sie haben sich sehr für das Judentum interessiert.

Als endlich alles soweit vorbereitet war die Reise nach New York zu starten, konnte ich mir noch nicht vorstellen, wie es ist in eine amerikanische High School zu gehen. Vorher war ich noch nie in New York, habe aber viel von meiner Schwester gehört.

Im Falle, dass ihr es nicht wisst, ich bin alleine, ohne meine Eltern, hier her gekommen und lebe das ganze Schuljahr bei unseren Freunden in Riverdale.

Meinen ersten „Kultur-schock“ war als ich in Newark gelandet bin und über die Washington Brücke gefahren bin. Ich habe noch nie so eine große Stadt gesehen, mit so hohen Häusern und so vielen Hochhäusern. Also stellt euch mal vor, ihr kommt aus einer „Großstadt“ wie Köln (ca. 1 Million Einwohner) und dann bist du plötzlich in der Mitte von New York City!!!

Zurück zu meiner Ankunft in New York:

Den ersten „Kultur-schock“ hatte ich schon einigermaßen überstan-den und kam dann zur SAR High School. Es gibt so viele Unterschie-de zwischen SAR, der jüdischen Grundschule und der weiterführenden Schule, auf die ich gehe.

Ich habe so viel Glück, dass ich zweisprachig aufgewachsen bin und mein Vater mit meiner Schwester und mir von klein an auf Hebräisch gesprochen hat. He-bräisch sprechen und schreiben zu können, war

einer der Gründe, dass SAR mich akzeptiert hat. Ich hatte auch Glück, dass die Lehrerinne in der Grundschule und meine Eltern mir die Grundsätze der Thora und der Fei-ertage beigebracht haben.

Die erste Woche auf der SAR war ich sehr verwir-rt. Erstens war ich sehr überrascht, dass wenn jemand etwas nicht ver-standen hat, der Schüler den Lehrer fragte, ob er es wieder wiederholen könnte. Ich habe fast ver-gessen, wie sehr man mir in der jüdischen Grund-schule geholfen hat. Man muss in dem Gymnasi-um in das ich gehe, sehr mutig sein, den Lehrer zu fragen, ob er die Frage wiederholen könnte. Ok, vielleicht übertreibe ich ein bisschen, aber ich hatte nie wirklich das Gefühl, dass die Lehrer wollen, dass man Fragen stellt. Ich musste mich wirklich daran gewöh-nen Fragen zu stellen und vielleicht ist es den Schülern in meiner Klasse schon aufgefallen, dass wenn ich etwas nicht ver-stehe, ich auch den Lehrer Frage.

Zweitens möchte ich jedem Lehrer und jeder Lehrerin aus der SAR High School ein Kom-pliment machen. Jeder gibt sich so viel Mühe mit seinen Schülern. Die

In meiner alten Schule wollten ein paar Lehrer uns noch nicht mal ihre Vornamen sagen, weil man Sie identifizieren könnte. Ich muss aber auch sagen, dass nicht alle Lehrer an meinem Gymnasium so sind. Es gibt wirklich sehr gute und nette Lehrer, aber ich weiß auch, dass die Lehrer in einer staatlichen Schule sich nicht so viel Zeit für ihre Schüler nehmen und nehmen können, wie auf einer Privatschule. Meine Mutter und mein Vater wurden meine “nach der Schule Privatlehrer”, die mir alles beibrachten, was ich in der Schule nicht verstanden habe. Jeder Lehrer auf der SAR ist wie ein “Engel” für mich, weil sie einfach alles tun ihren Schülern zu helfen und ich schätze es sehr!

Drittens endete die jü-dische Grundschule jeden Tag um 16:20 Uhr und das Gymnasium um 13:15 Uhr!!! Ich dachte immer als ich um 14:00 Uhr nach Hause kam, dass der Tag schon fast vorbei ist, aber wenn ich jetzt nach Hause komme, dann ist der Tag wirklich vorbei!

Aber ich muss wirklich zugeben dass es hier viel mehr Spaß macht zu lernen und dass die

Elementary school in the German system is until 4th grade, then you go to a secondary school until 12th grade. Each grade in the Jewish school had about 13-18 children. In the first five periods of each day we had normal classes like any other school. We learned Math, German language, En-glish starting in the 3rd grade, Science, Geog-raphy and sports. None of these teachers were Jewish. Then the last 3 we learned Hebrew and the basic stories of the Torah and holidays with most of the teachers who came from Israel for Schli-chut in Cologne. I really enjoyed being in school there, I had a lot of fun. After 4 years of elemen-tary school, I went to a public school with my best friend from elemen-tary school, but kept on taking “religion” class in one of the two synagogues we have in Cologne. All

the people in my sec-ondary school grade are non-Jewish people except my best friend and my-self. But it wasn’t hard at all to make new friends. I think at the age of 10 it is not important where you come from and because we were Jewish we knew that it is not important to pay attention to other people’s religions. It was a mixed class of some Christians, one Muslim, 2 Jews and the rest were atheists but they celebrate Christmas. It is a tradition also for non-Christians to celebrate Christmas. In my grade, the other students do not have a problem with my being Jewish. They were always interested in Judaism. As everything was ready for me to start my journey to SAR, I didn’t have any idea what it would be like going to an American school. This was my first time coming to New York. In case you didn’t know, I came by myself for the year and I am living with our friends in Riverdale for the year. My first culture shock was when I had just gotten out of the Newark airport and crossed the George Wash-ington Bridge. I have never seen such a big city with so many houses and buildings. So imagine you are coming from a pretty small city like Cologne, Germany (1 Million pop-ulation) and suddenly you are in the middle of New

York City!!!Back to my arrival in New York:So the first shock I had already half survived until I came to the school itself.There are so many differ-ences between SAR and both the Jewish Elemen-tary and public school in Germany that I attended.I am so lucky that my father spoke Hebrew at home with my sister and me.Having this knowledge of Hebrew was one of the reasons that SAR accept-ed me.I was also lucky that I went to the Jewish ele-mentary school and my parents taught me the basics of the Torah and of the Jewish holidays.The first weeks of school at SAR I was very con-fused. First, I was so surprised that if someone in my class didn’t under-stand something in class, they would ask the teach-er to explain it a second time. I barely forgot that they helped me so much in the elementary school, but you had to be brave in the public school to ask the teacher if he could re-peat what he just said. Ok, maybe I am exaggerating a bit, but let’s say you didn’t feel comfortable asking questions. I had to get used to this kind of situation and maybe the people in my classes realized that I ask ques-tions if I don’t understand something.

Second, I want to com-pliment every teacher of the school here! Really everyone makes the most effort for the students. Teachers make sure that students understand the material and that they do well on the tests and grad-uate with honors. Every teacher is also available on their email account to answer questions the students have. This is like a paradise for me here.In my old school, some teachers didn’t want to give us even their first names, in case we stalked them. But I also have to say that there are also very good and nice teachers, but as I imagine most of the teachers in public schools do not take so much time and care with every student. My mom and my dad became my “after school private teachers” and taught me all the stuff I didn’t under-stand in school.So every teacher at SAR seems like an “Angel” because they just literally look for students they can help in every way and I appreciate it so much! Third, I finished the day in elementary school at 3:20 pm and in the pub-lic school at 1:15 pm!!! I thought that when I came home at 2 pm, the day was almost over, but when I come from school now, the day really is over!But I need to admit that it is so much more fun to study in this school

than the other school. The school atmosphere is so much better and the outside school ac-tivities (which I never had before) are just so amazing! I think at this point it looks like I came from the Stone Age to the 21st century! Maybe you think that being in a great school like SAR is the norm but it is not! And the craziest thing is that I get better grades here in AMERICA, where I don’t really know the language than in Germany whose language I really know.Here is my last point. I think it’s pretty obvious that the Jewish population in Europe, especially in Germany, is greatly re-duced due to the Second World War… Maybe you wonder what is it like to be a Jew in a country that didn’t want to have Jews at all?First of all, it is more than horrible what happened, but the new generations today were not respon-sible for what happened but they still have to remember and ensure that this will never hap-pen again!!!. On the other side, I am also proud to live in Germany as a Jew because it means that we are still alive and no one has succeeded in destroy-ing our religion.What I was trying to explain is that there aren’t many Jews in Germany, about 119,000 and there are 5,435,000 Jews in the

United States. So the fact that we don’t have a sec-ondary Jewish school in Cologne shows that it is a bit difficult to live as a Jew in Germany.We have two secondary schools in Berlin and Frankfurt.As I came to Riverdale and I walked a bit around the city and I saw some-one walking with Kip-pah. I was so excited to see someone Jewish and said to the daughter of my “family for the year” ,”WOW, there’s a Jew” and she said, “yeah it’s nor-mal”.Getting kosher food is pretty hard in Cologne. It is actually funny how most people get kosher food. One way is that they drive an hour and a half to Belgium to get Kosher food, because there are many more Jews and markets there than in Co-logne. Or they buy kosher food at a kiosk next to our shul. The kiosk owner is an Iranian who was for a long time in cooperation with the jewish commu-nity and started selling kosher food like Bisli, Bamba, Humus, Cheese, Kosher meat and so much more.The man is very nice but the food is very expensive.What a huge difference to just go across the street when you go out of SAR and you have a huge ko-sher market.We also just have two syn-agogues in Cologne: One

very big in the center with about 5000 members. The other one is outside the city and very small.This is all about my life in America so far:I enjoy every single mo-ment that I have here! It is so much fun to be at a great school and to get to know so many people who are just amazing! It is so much fun to be an American.
