"Through a move towards stable or declining populations, denserand better-managed cities consuming fewer resources, and greaterequity and use of technology, we can bring peak waste forwardand down. The environmental, economic and social benefits wouldbe enormous. "
Dan Hoornweg, Perinaz Bhada-Tata and Chris Kennedy, Authors of "WasteProduction Must Peak This Century"
The amount of garbage in cities is growing. Global garbage production has risen to more than 3.5 million tons, according to the World Bank, which estimates that it will hit the 6 million mark by 2025.
By 2100 the growing global urban population will beproducing three times as much waste as it does today. That level of waste carries serious consequences –physical and fiscal – for cities around the world.
SMART GARBAGE COLLECTOR
SAP Leonardo solution to make the world run better and improve people’s live:
IoT Sensor devices (weight, level, etc.) put in garbage bins for measuring fullness, failures, weight/level/volume density.
Calculatinggarbageproduction ofeach citizenthrough theweight/level/volume
Optimal routes to be computed by waste-disposal officers around the urban streets without spending redundant time and resources
Improve thegarbage collectionefficiency andrecycling ofresources

Solution Overview
Use sensors (weight, level, etc) in bins to optimize priority-based paths of waste-disposal officers and to calculate garbage production of each citizen
v Resources reductionSensor inspection can help to prioritize garbage collection, finding the optimal routes to be computed by waste-disposal officers around the urban streets without spending redundant time and resources
v Accurate billsCalculating weight variations by sensor inspection inside bins can help to determine exactly, and store in a smart card, how much each citizen must pay
v Immediate interventionSensor inspection can help to communicate promptly failures due to wear, fire, environmental damage, etc
v Smart Garbage Collector
A solution provided on SAP Cloud Platform using the following Leonardo Technologies to accelerate the Digital Transformation process:
Internet of Things
Big DataAnalytics

Solution Details• The SAP Cloud Platform will be the central point to build, extend and deploy our Hybrid Application,
the application will be distributed also to Mobile Devices thanks to the Cloud Build Services & Mobile Service for Dev&Ops.
• The SAP Cloud Platform will be also the central point to manage IoT artefacts, with usage of IoTcockpit (RDMS and MMS)
• Using Remote Data Sync to ensure transactional integrity over unstable networks and resolution of data change conflicts.
• Hadoop takes data from sensor devices and trough SDA access to SAP Hana to process data on persistant structures.
• The data from SAP CRM, WFM e PM on Hana Platform will also be replicated trough SDI on SAP BW/4HANA.
• The aim is to created a dashboards on SAP Analytics Cloud that manage the collect of garbage based on the following points:
– the itinerary on the map to follow by truck– the type of truck based on the quantity of garbage – the part of day for collect garbage

Social value:
Human empowerment:
§ Prioritize garbage collection§ Finding the optimal routes to be computed by waste-disposal officers around the urban streets without spending redundant time and
resources§ Communicate promptly failures due to wear, fire, environmental damage§ Determine exactly, and store in a smart card, how much each citizen must pay
§ Global garbage production has risen to more than 3.5 million tons, according to the World Bank, which estimates that it will hit the 6 millionmark by 2025.
§ With loads of trash increasing, disposal costs are rising — the World Bank further predicts that by 2025, global garbage collectionexpenses will skyrocket by 83 percent, from $205 billion a year in 2010 to $375 billion by 2025.
§ The predicament of costs is concerning for cities, especially in developing countries where budgets are already tight
§ Calculating garbage production of each citizen through the weight/level/volume variations, to be stored in a e.g. smart card giving accessto a personal dashboard, in order to calculate an accurate bill for each citizen and to use the data for personalized waste reductioncampaigns.
§ Moreover, several quantitative and qualitative statistics can be collected in order to improve the garbage collection efficiency and recyclingof resources.
