Knowing your Laws

• Educational Program addressed to immigrant population in Madrid.

• Run by bar volunteers.

• Promotes the integration of immigrants in the Madrid society

• Informs of core features of the Spanish institutional and legal system through conferences.

• In cooperation with local government and law firms.

• 3 consecutive Saturdays, 17 to 20h

• Groups of four volunteers.

• The CRSA provides complete materials and know-how information to volunteers (sponsored by Wolters Kluwer Foundation).

• November 2010: – 1.300 participants – 230 volunteers

Knowing your Laws

•Organized in three modules:

Summary of Spanish Constitutional Law. — Fundamental Rights and Duties— Organization of the Spanish State

Overview of basic rights and obligations: family, inheritance, commercial, labor, criminal, tax and consumer laws that affect every day interactions in Spain.

Immigration laws, administrative procedures and the authorities involved:

—Work permits—Residence permits—Spanish nationality—Breach of immigration laws and consequences

• Conference in the Latin – American Center, Madrid. November 2010.

• Representatives of the Madrid Bar Association and local government give diplomas to the participants.

• Diploma ceremony at the Law School of the Universidad Complutense, Madrid.
