PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

Remember, of these parents you were born; what can you give them for all they gave to you? – Sir 7:28

REFLECTION: Some fathers are now

beginning to claim the same kind of “right” to walk away from their paren-tal responsibilities as mothers are able to do by abortion. They ask, if we can’t force the mother to be a mother, why should we force the father to be a fa-ther?

The bitter fruits of Roe v. Wade continue to unfold.

PRAYER: Lord, instill in all fathers and mothers a deep sense of re-sponsibility for their children, born and unborn.

Our Youth Confirmation took place on Sunday, April 30, at the 5 p.m. Mass. Bishop Kicanas was unable to be with us this year, but he sent Monsignor Al Schifano as a wonderful replacement. Con-celebrants for this Mass were Fr. Larry Sanders and Fr. Jim Modeen. Deacons Al de la Riva and Flavio Sanchez were also present. The sacristan for this Mass, Pat Capranica, did a great job in making sure that everything ran smoothly. Alex Navas and the 5 p.m. choir did a great job with the music. Overall, it was a very beautiful and festive Mass. I would like to thank the catechists that helped prepare these teens for the Sacrament. Their Foundation catechists were Bonnie Richter and Dan Auge and their Confirmation catechists were Deacon Al de la Riva and Josie Mendoza. You all did a great job!

Every year the Bishop requires the teens requesting the Sacrament of Confirmation to write him letters telling him the reason they want to be confirmed. He asks them to share a little bit of themselves, such as what they are involved in, who their sponsor is, and why they chose him/her. Since the Bishop was unable to make it this year, he passed the letters on to Monsignor Al and he used the information from the letters for his homily. It was wonderful to see the expressions on the teens’ faces when he shared some of their stories. He also asked them questions and they mostly gave him the right answers. They were a little nervous, but they did an excellent job.

I am so glad that Confirmation is NOT a graduation; otherwise, I would not get to see these marvelous teens next year at Life Teen! Congratulations to all of you. I am very proud of you! You are indeed filled with the Holy Spirit. Please continue to shine His light in our world!

Prayer for the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit God grant me:

The Spirit of Wisdom that I may turn from the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal

The Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth

The Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven

The Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation

The Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and myself

The Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and joyful

and The Spirit of Fear that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him Who loves me so.

RELEASING THE HOLY One day God noticed a racket going on around a man in Italy. He was hammering and chiseling stone as if something were alive inside and he was laboring to free it. “Michelangelo, what are you doing?” said God. “I am setting you free, Lord, so

everyone will recognize you in this stone, as well as in everyone who suffers a violent, unjust death. I don’t want people to forget what you did for us.” The Lord replied to Michelangelo: “In times past I stayed in many different places. I don’t remember living in that stone you’re working on.” “Lord,” said the sculptor, “when your Son came to us, he left your Holy Spirit everywhere; we have to search it out, discover it, and reveal it to others.” The Lord was pleased with Michelangelo’s answer and left him to chip away. Slowly, very slowly, the sculptor set free the figure of a woman holding the body of her dead son in her lap.

Spanish Classes begin

MONDAY, MAY 22

Would you like to learn conversational Spanish? Classes are on Mondays at 1 p.m. in the Cholla Room.

These classes are informal and based on the needs and interests of the class.

Textbooks are not used, but a Spanish or Bilingual Dictionary is helpful.

Drop by and learn to speak and understand Spanish in a fun, hands-on atmosphere.
