Pesticide Analytical Section(a) Quality control

• Analyzing and evaluation of pesticides for registration in Myanmar.

• Analyzing and certifying the quality of pesticides which are in commercial use and are to be imported.

(b) Residue analysis• Certifying pesticide residue level in agricultural

commodities for export.• Monitoring pesticides residues in crops for

domestic consumption.• Assessment of a particular pesticide and giving due

recommendation for registration.• Monitoring of environmental pollution in areas

with intensive use of pesticides.• Participation to the harmonization program of

MRLs in ASEAN region by conducting Residue analysis for the proposed pesticides and commodities.

(d) Heavy metal analysis

• Biological and environmental samples are analyzed for heavy metal contaminant. The micro element content such as Zn, Cu, Mn, Pb, Ni, Cd in soil, water and foliar fertilizer are checked for nutrient prediction in soil

What is an MRL?

• Maximum Residue Level

The maximum concentration of a pesticide residue (expressed as mg/kg) legally permitted in or on food commodities and animal feeds

0.01 mg/Kg = 10 µg/Kg 0.01 parts per million= 10 parts per billion

• To facilitate trade flow and analyze residue for food safety, co-operate with international agencies/ donors, private sectors and PPD for capacity building of human resource and laboratory at exit/entry gates
