Sandomierz, one of the oldest and most important historical cities in Poland – its origin and development is connected with its convenient location at the crossroads of two geographical regions: Upland Kielce - Sandomierz and Sandomierz Basin.

It is one of the four gates forming a complex of defensive walls

of Sandomierz, built by King Casimir the Great, about 1362.

Sides of the gate remain the walls. In the sixteenth

century it was crowned with a Renaissance attic door.

It was built in the second half of the fourteenth century. The original building, in the shape of the tower, was extended in the fifteenth century on the plan of rectangle.

A Gothic church was built (in place of an earlier church) and founded by Casimir the Great, between 1360 and 1382.

The old system the fourteenth and fifteenth century cellars where traders store their goods. It was formed by the combination of old cellars and

underground storages.

Baroque building, built between 1679-1689. Church of Sts. Joseph was rebuilt in the years 1809-1823, in a

crypt you can see the coffin with well-preserved corpse of Teresa Morsztynówna, who died in 1698.
