Discovery Process

Discovery is the process of data mining, collection, and analysis with the goal of conducting a comprehensive watershed study and initiating communication and mitigation planning discussions with the communities in the watershed When After an area/watershed has been prioritized Before a Risk MAP project is scoped or funded

Why Increases visibility of flood risk information, Increases education and involvement of communities Helps inform whether a Risk MAP project will occur

San Pablo Bay Watershed Overview

The San Pablo Bay Watershed study area contains or touches: 7 counties in CA (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco,

Solano, Sonoma) For this study, 26 communities are affected 225 total stream miles with mapped flood hazards Approximately 2 million residents

There have been multiple recently completed or in progress studies in the watershed over the past 10 years Countywide DFIRM Conversions San Francisco Bay Coastal Study Other Physical Map Revisions

Next Steps

Communities need to review the draft Discovery Report to see if potential projects were captured accurately and identify additional potential projects based on current mitigation planning efforts

Project types include: Floodplain mapping projects that result in updates to the

FIRMs and FIS (Table 4 in the Discovery Report)

Mitigation projects that were either pulled from Hazard Mitigation Plans or from the community interviews (Tables 5 and Table 9 in the Discovery Report)
