Wedding Day in One Word“Picturesque”

Melissa & PhilliP MartinMay10, 2014, Delta Diamond Farm, Isleton

BY CHERI NELSON

Melissa met Phillip in Fresno, where she lived after completing college. The two met through mutual friends at church. They didn’t start dating until a couple of years later. The proposal came fast and six months later Phillip proposed to Melissa on a weekend coastal getaway. On a quiet hillside he handed Melissa a small leather-bound journal with his own beautifully written words. The writings ended with “Will you marry me?” She looked up and he was down on one knee with a ring. The preparation of the wedding, including the making of favors, was done by the groom, bride, and mother of the bride. It was a simple country affair, with a touch of class. The bride and bridesmaids even wore cowboy boots. Lawn games were made by the bride and groom and played by all. Dinner featured BBQ, peach cobbler, apple crisp, and a small wedding cake, to be cut by the bride and groom. Melissa and Phillip had taken dance classes and performed a swing dance routine for the first dance. Relax and have fun was the motif and it was achieved by all.

Wedding Day in One Word“Fairy Tale”

lyndsi & eugene hernandez June 15, 2013, Woodbridge Golf & Country Club

BY CHERI NELSONLyndsi and Eugene met in high school and started dating her senior year. Four and a half years went by and Eugene was graduating from the Fireman’s Academy. Lyndsi did not know, but he had a big surprise for her at the gradua-tion. At the end of the practice drill, while showcasing their skills, Lyndsi was to step up and ask the new firemen if they had “Attitude Check” Instead of reciting the words that “attitude check” represent, the fireman, in full fire-fighting gear, yelled out “Will you marry him?” She turned and there was Eugene, down on one knee, in full gear, with a ring, waiting for her to say yes. It will be an unforgettable experience forever, because Eugene made a video and it appears on YouTube in full glory for all to see. The wedding was just as special. It was filled with personal touches, since the mother of the bride took charge and planned all the details, including flowers. They had nine bridesmaids and groomsmen, so Mom had her work cut out for her! She even made Lyndsi’s floor length wedding veil. The bride and bridesmaids tied all the napkins into bows the night before the wedding, since bows were the theme of the wedding. The wedding was outside on the golf course in the early evening, with the wind blowing, but nothing took away from the wonder of their “Fairy Tale” wedding.

Wedding Day in One Word – Bride: “Epic!,” Groom: “Unforgettable!”

ashley & andrew FerruaSeptember 7, 2013, Grace Vineyards, Galt

BY TONIA WILLIAMS

Ashley and Andrew’s friendship began as freshmen in high school. They had a religion class together and would pass notes between each other and friends. They had a strong friendship all through high school and continued to maintain solid contact throughout college. Despite attending different California colleges and Andrew spend-ing time working out of state after college, they stayed in close touch. Years later, Andrew moved back to the area and their close friendship continued. For Andrew’s birthday in 2010, Ashley took him out to a SF Giant’s game; it was just the two of them and it “just felt right.” They soon reazlied how strong their natural connection was and their relationship and love developed perfectly. After dating for a few years, Andrew was ready to propose. During Ashley’s annual traditional family trip to the Russian River, Andrew took their relationship further. He knew how much the Russian River area means to Ashley and wanted to incorporate his proposal into that special place, and so he did. Andrew had previously asked for and received Ashley’s father’s blessing for the proposal. Andrew ini-tially planned to propose on the 4th of July during the trip; however, due to timing just not being right, he waited. Finally on July 7, 2012, after spending the day swimming and standing on a picturesque cabin deck overlooking the beach, Andrew took a knee. Both of them in their bathing suits, Andrew initially had a bit of trouble pulling the ring box from his trunks, but once he did, he popped the question! Ashley replied crying, “Yes! I love you.” Although Andrew had to be patient for the timing to be right, the final moment was as meaningful and touching for the couple as he’d hoped. Ashley and Andrew were then wed on September 7, 2013 in an afternoon ceremony at Grace Vineyards in Galt. The morning of their big day was a bit chaotic as everything had to be set up DIY that morning; however, with the help of loved ones it all came together beautifully. An entertaining children’s area helped keep their son and younger guests happy throughout the event. Andrew shared that over the years he and Ashley maintained a good friendship, he’d actually kept the notes and letters they’d exchanged. Even before their romance bloomed, the couple had such a close connection. They featured the notes during their wedding and now have those initial memories saved so they can be shared with their son and future generations.

audrey & Paul georgusonMay 10, 2014, Oak Ridge Winery, Lodi

BY CHERI NELSON

Audrey and Paul first noticed each other in 5th grade. Years went by and after college friends reunited them, the rest was history. It did not take long before they knew this was forever. Paul took Audrey on a trip to his family cab-in in Yosemite, where he planned a grandiose proposal. Audrey wasn’t well, so the proposal did not go as planned, but on a small hike he told her how much he loved her and wanted them to be husband and wife. The wedding was soon after in a beautiful evening wedding, with family and friends at Oak Ridge Winery. The family minister, Glen Barnes, of 1st Baptist in Lodi, married Audrey and Paul, Paul’s brother the year before, and the next year his other brother. They wrote their own vows. Instead of a traditional wedding cake the couple opted for a cupcake tower and a Princess themed Brides’ cake. Audrey’s father told Paul how she always wanted a Prince Charming to sweep her away and instead she got a Super Hero. Audrey then surprised Paul with a Batman Grooms’ cake. A popcorn machine was there for late night snacking, due to Paul’s LOVE of popcorn. It was a perfect ending to a perfect day.

“Breath-Taking”

elva & Xavier JiMenez May 24, 2014, University Plaza Hotel, Stockton

BY CHERI NELSON

Elva and Xavier met through her roommate, his cousin, when she was invited to his birthday party on May 24, 2008. Ever since that day they were inseparable. They celebrated that day every year and it became their wedding date 6 years later. The proposal was a storybook classic. Elva was greeted one evening with a walk of rose petals and lit candles, from the front door to the backyard. Xavier and their two babies were waiting with a sign that asked, “Baby, will you marry me?” She said yes and family surprised her by coming out of nowhere to help celebrate with them. The couple spent the night before their wedding, in the bridal suite and grooms suite of the University Plaza Hotel, to prepare for their special day. The ceremony started with Mass at the Cathedral, then back to the hotel for the celebration. Festivities were highlighted by Elva’s father singing a song dedicated to the couple, chosen by Xavier’s mother, and Elva singing with the Mariachi Band to her new husband. From that day forward, they all became one family.

“Magical”lori & tiM talbertOctober 5, 2013, Private Country Estate, Valley Springs

BY CHERI NELSON

Lori and Tim met at Clements church and it was love at first sight. They knew they were destined to be together. Tim wasted no time in proposing and within the year they were married in an intimate, sunset wedding at a pri-vate estate in the Valley Springs country side. All was stress free thanks to their friends, Marjorie and Janice at The Event Designers. Family and friends watched as the two exchanged vows with a backdrop of the setting sun. Twinkling lights adorned the reception, while dancing their first dance as man and wife. Tim surprised Lori when a limo arrived and whisked them away to Querenica B&B in Murphy’s, before starting their honeymoon in Mon-tana. It was a romantic, magical evening, and a wonderful way to start their new life together.

Wedding Day in One Word“Blessed”

Jessica & Joe KiM June 7, 2014, Elkhorn Country Club, Stockton

BY CHERI NELSON

Jessica Piring met Joe Kim at Stockton Korean Baptist Church, a small church that Jessica decided to attend one day. Little did she know, that day changed her life forever. The courtship was fast, because they knew they were meant to be together forever. The proposal came after only 6 months, with Joe coming to Jessica’s job at the VA hospital, where she is a nurse. He brought her flowers and in front of all her co-workers went down on one knee and proposed. The wedding plans proceeded with family and her co-workers helping her plan the wonderful day. They were married at Home Church in Lodi by Joe’s Father, the pastor of Stockton Korean Church. Reception followed at the Elkhorn Country Club, where they had a buffet style dinner and DJ. The couple felt God blessed their union that perfect day.

ashlee & dalton everhartApril 12, 2014, Dodasa Ranch, Burson

BY CHERI NELSON

Ashlee met Dalton Everhart while in high school in Brentwood. She was a sophomore, he a junior. She made the first move, but it was for his friend, not him. Although Ashlee was trying to find out about Dalton’s his friend, she ended up becoming best friends and more, with him. After high school Dalton enlisted in the Marines. While home on leave for the holidays, he took Ashlee and her friend hiking up in Round Valley, to show them his newly acquired skills of navigation. Dalton had everyone dress in camo clothes and paint on their faces, to make the experience realistic. As they all went on their perspective trails, Ashlee got lost. She slipped in mud and was not happy. She finally heard them calling her name and was able to reconnect with the group. She was angry and upset, talking rapidly to them, when she heard Dalton say “Ashlee”. She turned around and he was getting down on one knee, proposing. Her girlfriend Delaney was taking pictures of the planned event. She cried and said yes. The rest is now history. That was December 31, 2012. On April 12, 2014, in front of family and friends, they said, “I do”. The wedding was romantic, and the reception fun and upbeat at Dodasa Ranch. It was truely the wedding before Dalton was deployed to Japan.

lucy & Mario doMinguezMay 17, 2014, Elkhorn Country Club, Stockton

BY CHERI NELSON

Lucy and Mario went to high school together, but did not notice one another. It wasn’t until later that mutual friends introduced the two. From then on they were a couple. Lucy and Mario watched each other finish college and their career dreams come to be. Nine years later, in their special spot on the canal, where they walked their little dog, he went down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. She said yes. The mother of the bride handled all the details of the wedding and reception. Her little book was her bible. The wedding was a traditional Catho-lic wedding, at St. Bernadette’s in Stockton, incorporating the groom’s Mexican heritage as well. The bride had a broach bouquet, instead of traditional flowers. The different broaches belonged to loved ones that were gone, including the crystal cross used as a stem. Reception followed the large party at the Elkhorn Country Club where a hologram of their name and date of nuptials roamed the area.

One summer their friendship simply became more. It wasn’t complicated or uncomfortable; a solid friendship smoothly turned to love. They just wanted to be around each other. After dating a while Mi-chael began planning his proposal. About two months before popping the question, he got Jennifer’s whole fam-ily in on it. In fact, the only one who wasn’t told, other than Jennifer of course, was Michael’s cousin; as the two ladies are so close. Thankfully everyone kept the secret. As planned, Michael took Jennifer to San Francisco for her birthday on June 18, 2013. While there, they visited Presidio Point which is where Michael shared a brief but emotional speech. At first Jennifer wasn’t sure what was going on or why Michael was speaking so deeply, he then very traditionally got down on one knee and asked for her hand; she cried and then she accepted saying, “Of course I will.” The couple’s wedding date was set for May 3, 2014 and Jennifer found herself quite calm all morning while preparing. However, once she stood outside the church awaiting the isle she became “super nervous.” That soon subsided though as their beautiful ceremony proceeded and transitioned into the much anticipated reception. All 200 of their invited guests were able to attend. Jennifer’s wedding planner, Lorie Estrada, and decorator, Esmeralda Zapien, “blew her mind” with the entire event bringing it all together to give the couple a stress free day. Blossom-ing from friendship their romance was never expected. They’d enjoyed their close friendship for many years, and as Jennifer put it they are now thankful to have “married their best friends.”

Wedding Day in One Word: “Happy”

lesley & earl McKuinOctober 19, 2013, Double Tree Hotel, Grand Ballroom, Modesto

BY TONIA WILLIAMS

Lesley and her cousins had periodically talked about dating and, in this age of course, online dating came up. Lesley had very staunchly told her cousins, “Match.com is weird! I would never do something like that!” Well in November 2011, with it going on all around her, Lesley succumbed to some good hearted ‘peer pressure’ and decided a 1 month free trial wouldn’t hurt. By the 3rd day of joining she received a message from Earl. The two ended up spending that whole night messaging back and forth and their connection was already apparent. They had their first date only days later at a local Mexican restaurant. As Lesley put it, when recalling seeing Earl walk in the door, “The music just stopped.” They had a wonderful time together and when Lesley got home after the date she told her girlfriend that Earl would be the man she marries. The two went on subsequent dates and have been inseparable since. About two months into their relationship Lesley and Earl found themselves having dis-cussions about engagement and had quite nonchalantly browsed catalogues of rings, Lesley pinpointing what her style was. Again nonchalantly, Earl told Lesley he would really like to get her a ring. She thought happily, “okay.” On January 17, 2012 Earl came over to Lesley’s home. He took out a small black box and presented it to her say-ing, “Well?” Thinking it was likely a pair of earrings or something she replied, “Well what?” Then seeing that Earl was holding the very ring they’d looked at pictures of not long before she exclaimed, “That’s the ring!” and then said, “Well, YES!” Lesley and Earl married on October 19, 2013 and they each incorporated their respective heritages into their wedding where they could; including Lesley’s “very large and boisterous” Portuguese family and Earl’s Scottish heritage. They were wed in a beautiful ceremony which included traditional Scottish bagpipes and a hand fasting ceremony. Both families brought a very joyous presence to the occasion giving it a dual and loving atmosphere. Earl also donned a very authentic complete formal Scottish Kilt. Lesley described the setting of their wedding as, “stunning!” Lesley and Earl have since welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Raegan Emily, on June 4, 2014 and are glowingly happy with their deeply connected love and new family.

Wedding Day in One WordBride: “Perfect, but hot!”

Katelynn & steven galvinJune 29, 2013, The Lincoln Farmhouse, Stockton

BY TONIA WILLIAMS

Katelynn and Steven met and were friends in high school. They shared an English class junior year; Steven sat right behind Katelynn who’d sometimes help him with assignments. One day during the school year Katelynn and some friends decided to prank Steven and toilet-paper his truck! Steven was very upset when he found out. However, just a few days later, figuring it may be a good opportunity, Steven asked Katelynn out. Katelynn said she had always been pretty shy around Steven, but the TP-ing definitely served to break the ice. They dated all through high school for a total of 7 years. Despite attending different colleges they maintained their relationship solidly and finished their educations. Then on Katelynn’s graduation day in May 2011 Steven popped the ques-tion. He and Katelynn were walking through Steven’s parent’s orchard in Linden late that afternoon. As they walked, Steven asked Katelynn to wait a moment. Telling Katelynn he had a rock in his shoe he knelt down on a knee and fiddled with his foot. He then reached his arm up toward her. Thinking he needed some help standing back up, Katelynn extended her hand; she didn’t realize at first, he was holding out the ring! Steven asked her to marry him and she of course accepted. The two walked back to his parent’s house and shared their happy news. Steven’s father had actually been driving in the orchard that afternoon and saw Katelynn crying after the proposal and asked what Steven had done to her; he’d proposed of course! They then drove to town and announced the news to Kateylnn’s parents. Both sets of parents were excited and very happy for them. When it came to putting the wedding together, Katelynn, her mother and sister all worked very hard together on the planning. It came together piece by piece through ideas they’d find or inspirations in magazines. She de-scribes her wedding day as “Perfect!” Both of their large extended families were able to attend the ceremony and reception events, which is exactly what the couple wanted. Surrounded by loving family and friends their big day went just as they’d hoped.

cynthia & Pravnesh JitApril, 4, 2014, Morris Chapel-University of the Pacific, Stockton

BY TONIA WILLIAMS

For Cynthia and Pravnesh, a trip with family and mutual friends to Las Vegas was where love blossomed. They’d known of each other for more than 10 years, but while at Pure in Las Vegas 3 years ago, “sparks flew” and their romance “just happened.” They exchanged phone numbers during the trip and went on their first date on June 12, 2011. It was a simple lunch and a movie date in Dublin, but their connection came simply and naturally. It all just fell into place from there like the two were meant to be. On Cynthia’s birthday, November 21, 2012, after months of planning, Pravnesh’s proposal plans unfolded. Cynthia’s sister planned for Cynthia and the family to take the day for wine tasting on Coronado Island. Pravnesh reluctantly declined attending the event claiming to have family visiting from Australia. In fact, Pravnesh and his family were already in San Diego waiting for the big proposal day. Cynthia had no clue that through Pravnesh’s planning both their parents and all their siblings had been in on the surprise for months, and had even been able to keep it a secret from her. That morning before wine tasting, Cynthia’s mother kept talking about how excited she was for Cynthia’s birthday; however, it wasn’t a milestone birthday so that was a bit odd to Cynthia. During the planning Pravnesh had instructed Cynthia’s sister to make sure to have Cynthia on the beach at precisely 4:44pm, as he (with the help of his brother) researched that this was when the sunset would begin. On their way to the Coronado Hotel for wine tasting Cynthia’s sister drove very quickly, insisting she did not want to “be late for their wine tasting appointment.” Cynthia was confused, she wasn’t aware wine tasting was done by appointment. Once Cynthia and her family arrived at the beautiful hotel property on the beach, her sister invited her to walk on the sand near some boulders for some birthday photos. Af-ter no small amount of convincing Cynthia agreed to walk along the sand for some birthday photos. As Cynthia’s father took photos of her, she was paying no attention to her surroundings. Then, as they rounded an outcropping of picturesque boulders, there was Pravnesh. With the help of his nephews, niece and family he’d laid out a clean white sheet, stood a candle at each corner, glued petals to the sheet in the shape of a heart and knelt in the center with champagne and two glasses. He even wore the same outfit he’d worn during their initial romantic beginnings in Las Vegas. Cynthia was speechless as Pravnesh presented her the ring. Cynthia asked laughingly, “What are you doing?” with an excited smile. “What do you think I’m doing?” Pravnesh replied. With all the excitement, Cynthia had to remind her nervous soon-to-be husband to officially ask the big question. Then he did, and of course she said, “YES!!’ It had all been perfectly planned for months down to the minute as the sunset began right at 4:44pm; it was perfect. Cynthia and Pravnesh were then married at a breathtaking ceremony on April 4, 2014 (4/4/14) at 4:00pm. With the happy couple starting out in Vegas, love was all in the numbers!

Wedding Day in One Word“Magical, amazing

in every way!”

Jacquelyn & John FugaziNovember 9, 2013, Stockton Golf and Country Club, Stockton

BY TONIA WILLIAMS

Jacquelyn and John had known of each other since high school but didn’t run together. Years later in 2009 at Gar-lic Brothers, Stockton; frequented by many of their high school alums, Jacquelyn and John “re-met.” It was the day before Thanksgiving that year and John simply struck up conversation. After talking, Jacquelyn went home and pulled out some year books. It turned out John’s freshman baseball coach was Jacquelyn’s half-brother. She found they had even had classes together, including math, which Jacquelyn now teaches. Their first date after re-meeting was tailgating at a Stanford University game. From then on Jacquelyn and John dated happily for 3 years before he proposed on December 1, 2012. Jacquelyn and her best friend Kevin made it an annual event to Christmas shop in San Francisco. Unbeknownst to her at the time, John had already called Kevin and planned his proposal. Kevin insisted to Jacquelyn that they take in an “art show” at the Palace of Fine Arts before going shopping. Jacquelyn questioned the out-of-the-norm idea but agreed to see the show anyway. When the two ar-rived at the Palace of Fine Arts there was, of course, no art show. Jacquelyn instead found John knelt beneath the palace dome. John asked her, “Will you marry me?” and she said, “Yes!” Jacquelyn shared that during John’s proposal she kept feeling like she was being watched; she soon found that not only was her best friend there, but Anthony, John’s best friend had hid in the bushes and caught photos of the memorable moment. Both best friends were able to witness the moment with the thrilled couple. Recalling their days in high school and speaking of Jacquelyn, John said, “I remember your voice in the halls. Your voice was always so happy and everyone could tell that happy voice was yours.” Jacquelyn and John had so much support from their friends and family and couldn’t have asked for a better wedding day.

BY CHERI NELSON

Sushma and Dharminder met 8 years ago at a party and started dating right away. They talked about getting married, but did not pressure each other. One weekend at Grover’s Beach, while down at the water, Dharminder wrote, “Will you marry me?” in the sand. She was very surprised and of course said yes! The wedding soon fol-lowed. Everything just fell in to place to form a perfect traditional Indian Hindu wedding in just 6 months. The wedding took place outside in the morning sun at Maha Shakti Ashram Hindu Temple in Lodi. The bride and groom exchanged traditional garland lei’s during the ceremony. Dharminder’s son served as best man. Lunch was served after the ceremony, at the temple to 225 guests. Later in the afternoon the formal reception was done at University Plaza Hotel, where music and more food were served to 375 guests. The bride and groom could not have been happier with a day full of promise for the future.

Let the goodtimes roll!

Take New Orleans for example. You won’t find a grain of sand within its city limits, but you will discover an historic southern port town brimming with romantic distractions, well-preserved architecture, and charm-ing neighborhoods. It’s a sexy city that can be naughty or nice no to mention a whole lot of fun as you wind your way down Bour-bon Street, slip into a smoky jazz bar, or dine by candlelight at some intimate bistro. Once you’ve said the “I dos” get ready for the ceremonial rice (and beans) by plotting your escape to The Big Easy. And be prepared to laissez le bon temps rouler!

WHERE TO STAY:AUDOBON COTTAGESIf you’re going to travel to a place as roman-tic as New Orleans, why would you stay in a chain hotel? You wouldn’t. Instead, seques-ter yourselves behind one of the seven histor-ic cottages belonging to this French Quarter hideaway. The former home of naturalist and painter John James Audubon, who lived here while completing his Birds of America series from 1821-22, features one and two-bedroom cottages with private, guest-only access and a shared saltwater pool. And, with just seven cottages that means no crowds, plenty of pri-vacy, and no more than a dozen other guests at any given time. Each abode features various amenities, such as hardwood floors, exposed brick walls and private courtyards. A conti-nental breakfast is delivered to your doorstep each morning with turndown service in the evening. http://www.auduboncottages.com

WHERE TO EAT:MURIEL’S JACKSON SQUAREHoused in a magnificent 15,000 square foot, two-story manse restored to its original 1800s Vieux Carre splendor is this delightful dining destination. The Creole and Cajun menu fea-tures an array of mouthwatering appetizers, en-trees and desserts along with a nightly tasting menu. The most romantic tables are those on the balcony overlooking Jackson Square or in the serene courtyard. And, if you think you saw something out of the corner of your eye it’s probably the resident ghost. Yes, Muriel’s Jack-son Square is most definitely haunted! www.muriels.com

WHAT TO DO:The best way to explore New Orleans is by neighborhood. Spend a few hours—or lon-ger—inhaling the history, architecture, attrac-tions and more. The people are friendly, too, and likely to share their favorite and best-kept city secrets.

THE FRENCH QUARTERSkirting this neighborhood and resting close to the Mississippi River is the legendary Café du Monde. For about five bucks you can get a trio of piping hot beignets, a square piece of fried dough dusted with powdered sugar, and a cup of coffee served black or au lait. Nearby is the French Market, a six block area featuring doz-ens of retail shops, performance venues, restau-rants, cafes, a flea market and farmers’ market. If you’re in the mood to party, Bourbon Street can be a sobering experience. Leave your inhi-bitions on the next block and experience Fat Tuesday any day of the week. Order a hurricane from Pat O’Brien’s in a go-cup- yep, it’s legal to drink openly on the streets of New Orleans (and a near requirement on Bourbon Street). It’s a party all night every night in this part of town.

THE GARDEN DISTRICTThis quaint section of New Orleans is like a museum without walls. With each turn and passing glance you’ll find a well-preserved collection of antebellum mansions, manicured gardens, and southern pride. Movie buffs will recognize the mansion at 2707 Coliseum Street from the film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt. Novelist Anne Rice’s former home is located in this neighborhood, too. Oth-er famous residents include Sandra Bullock, Nicolas Cage, and Peyton Manning. No visit to the Garden District is complete without a walk through Lafayette Cemetery No. 1. Opened in 1833 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, above the ground graves and tombs line the cracked walkways of this eerie fortress.

THE WAREHOUSE DISTRICTArt enthusiasts will enjoy a trek through this neighborhood where a pair of fine museums, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Contem-porary Arts Center, is located. A collection of contemporary galleries fan out in either direction and showcase the works of local talent. His-tory buffs won’t want to miss a visit to the nearby National World War II Museum.

Asking your bridesmaids to be apart of your big day can be yet another fun and creative aspect of planning your wedding. Regardless of your budget, you can make your invite as special as your upcoming plans. After all, these girls will be by your side for one of life’s biggest moments. Let them know how special they are, and how important their presence is to you. Encapsulate your personality, relationship, or theme into your invites- adding an extra special touch to the ex-perience that is your wedding! Here are a few idea guidelines, but we encourage you to de-stress with these simple, creative projects, making them all your own!

Will you be My…BY LINDSEY RODRIAN

POP UP SURPRISE THINGS YOU’LL NEED:Small cardboard boxes with removable lidsSatin ribbon in wedding colors Parchment or thick paper Construction paper matching your colorsGlue gunSmall wooden clips Markers

Get creative with this fun idea! You can easily add accents that pertain to your wedding theme or col-ors. First, line the lid of your box with a satin strip, applied with a glue gun. Next, choose a shape for the construction paper that will top your box lid. Once the shape is cut, write your bridesmaids name on the cut-out. Use the wooden clip to hold the cut out, and glue the clip to the top of the box lid. Let those elements dry while you work on your message. Grab your parchment or thick paper, and fold the paper in 5th’s like an accordion. Hold your folded paper against your box and cut to size, allowing the paper to fit inside and box and expand when opened. Write your message on the paper, and glue the top of message to the inside of the box lid, and the bottom of the message to the bottom of the box. Allow to dry before opening!

BOTTLE UP YOUR LOVE THINGS YOU’LL NEED:Bottles of wine Gummed paper or peel and stick labels Markers or a printer Bow fabric This option possesses a lot of freedom! You can choose your message, your paper, and your design. Print labels from your com-puter using photos of your friends, or craft and decorate your own labels with fun markers and glitter. Tie your bottle with a bow, and you’re good to go!

PUT A NECKLACE ON IT THINGS YOU’LL NEED:Jewelry boxesNecklacesParchment paper Hole punch

Deciding on the necklaces will be the most time consuming part of this invi-tation. You can choose to keep it sim-ple with costume jewelery, or fill the box with a quality piece your besties can enjoy for years. Cut the parchment paper to size, dependant on the jewelry box you choose. Choose your message, write it on the sized parchment, and use a hole puncher to make two holes (one at the top left corner and one at the right.) Feed your necklace through the holes and adjust so it falls where you wish. Place your parchment in your box and there you have it!

An ideal wedding cake should hit the sweet spot. To find the object of your confection, keep

the following factors in mind.

BAKERY: Before settling on a par-ticular cake maker, shop around. Find a baker who is open to your vision, and has the skills and experience to execute it.

EYE BEFORE YOU BUY: Don’t be in a sugar rush to make a decision. Ask ques-tions, sample the goods, and be open to other ideas.

CONSIDER THE LOGISTICS:It’s okay to be sweet on style as long as you’ve thought about the nuts and bolts of cake-making. Arrange a complimentary tasting, discuss plate/pillar rental fees and delivery costs, and be aware of payment and cancellation policies.

MAKE IT YOURS: A cake should complement your individual aisle style and your wedding’s theme, color, and attire. It should also reflect the couple it celebrates, so use monograms, bridal gown accents (think lace and ribbon), or another unique touch to personalize it.

DO YOURHOMEWORK:Collect wedding cake photos and other things that inspire you to share with your wed-ding cake confectioner.

Bachelorettes and BONDING TIME

BY KELLY POLLARD

n Back Talk

I was a young bride. So young, let’s just say that my twenty-first birthday was in the not-so-distant past. Although I was settling into a life with the man I loved, I still carried bold streaks of the col-lege girl that he fell in love with. After all the rushed errands to dress shops, florists, bakeries, and the all-encompassing dieting, the bachelor-ette party elicited the most excitement amongst my small army of close girlfriends. South Lake Tahoe offered just enough naughty and nice to be our number one destination choice. One issue, a current that ran through much of my wedding planning, was money. Opposing groups couldn’t seem to compromise between five star resorts verses the cheaper motels. My posse of fifteen la-dies ended up staying at three separate hotels with varying price points. Money guilt was best drowned out with cheap casino cocktails, which wasn’t always a practical mix with my newly skinny frame from months

as a wannabe Jenny Craig spokeswoman and a lowered tolerance for alcohol in order to get that desired waistline. Nevertheless, we powered through the monetary discrepancies and had a blast. At least, I think we did. Memory is hazy after a certain point of each evening. I donned the cheap bridal veil and requisite short skirt. We sipped cocktails by the lake during the day and accepted free Kamikaze’s from bars boasting live music at night. We avoided strippers in favor of girl time and consumed tons of food to soak up the booze since calories certainly wouldn’t count that weekend. I bonded with my girlfriends and delivered my mother safely to her hotel room at a reasonable hour before we continued to roam the chilly night air late into the morning. I ended up crashing in the cheaper rooms most nights since that was where the true party, our cackles echoing from the motel balconies until the hotel manag-ers rushed out to shush us. I soaked up the atten-

tion, something I wasn’t used to as the shy, usually quiet girl in my regular life. Sure I’d be stepping into the spotlight the next month in my princess bridal dress and slimmed down silhouette, but my bachelorette party loos-ened me up after the months leading up to the wedding of to-do lists and melodramas. My only tasks to complete that one weekend were roll-ing out of bed every morning and parking myself on a lounge chair. They say bachelorette parties are that last night out with girlfriends before de-voting yourself to your husband. Bull! My party taught me just how important girl time is to my soul. There is nothing like giggling with friends with no man in sight. My girl weekends are just as needed now to take a breath from my marriage and my two kids. That bachelorette party marked the beginning of my commitment to my ladies, one I try to honor just as much as the one I vowed to my husband on our wedding day a month later.
