On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he

had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I

see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.

“For eight days the Church has observed Easter Sunday, rejoicing in the light of the risen Christ. The Easter season will be marked by the liturgies and stories of how those earliest disciples and Christian communities were inspired, shaped, and multiplied by the powerful experience of the risen Lord. It will be for the whole Church and for each of her members a season to rekindle the fiery passion of Christian faith and witness to the world by proclaiming Christ cru-cified and risen for the salvation of all. The first part of today’s gospel reading from John tells the story of the evening of that first Easter Sunday evening when, out of fear toward the authorities, the disciples of Jesus hid. Yet, to their astonishment and joy, the risen Christ appears among them granting them his peace, breathing upon them his Spirit, sending them out as his apostles, and commis-sioning them to forgive sins in his name. The story is too incredible for Thomas, who is afraid of getting his hopes high again about Jesus only to be dashed once more. He was afraid to lose again the one he loved and followed. The second part of the narrative tells of another appearance of the risen Lord on the next Sunday. (This would be today.) This time, Thomas experiences the risen Lord and having surveyed his wounds, can only stammer words of awe, “My Lord and my God!” Thomas went from disbelief to certainty, but did not have respond with what each of are called to respond, faith. “Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” Faith involves trust and entrustment, belief and risk, and daring confi-dence in the love and faithfulness of the Christ who has made him-self known to us in the people and experiences, the events and signs through which he comes to our encounter and addresses us. Today is also Divine Mercy Sunday in which we celebrate God’s mercy toward all Creation, toward every person, toward every sinner. The mercy that God shows us in the incarnation, life, ministry, passion, death, resurrection and abiding presence of Jesus Christ among us, calling us from death to life, from slavery to freedom, forging us a people to witness his love to all, is what Saint Faustina called God’s greatest attribute. How fitting that on this Sunday, two of the modern Church’s greatest leaders, popes John XXIII and John Paul II, would be canonized! For through their example, efforts and ministry, once again Jesus Christ has breathed new life into the Church and reaffirmed her mission to the world. May this holy day be for all the Church this Easter a time of renewaland re-freshment, recommitment and bold witness to a world in need of the Christian good news, Jesus Christ is risen, Halleluyah!

1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed.

2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following: Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

3. On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following: For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world. (Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five decades).

4. Conclude with (three times): Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

In 1933, God gave Sister Faustina a striking vision of His Mercy, Sister tells us: "I saw a great light, with God the Father in the midst of it. Between this light and the earth I saw Jesus nailed to the Cross and in such a way that God, wanting to look upon the earth, had to look through Our Lord's wounds and I understood that God blessed the earth for the sake of Jesus." Of another vision on Sept. 13, 1935, she writes: "I saw an Angel, the executor of God's wrath... about to strike the earth...I began to beg God earnestly for the world with words which I heard interiorly. As I prayed in this way, I saw the Angel's helplessness, and he could not carry out the just punishment...." The following day an inner voice taught her to say this prayer on ordinary rosary beads: "First say one 'Our Father', 'Hail Mary', and 'I believe'. Then on the large beads say the following words: 'Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.' On the smaller beads you are to say the following words: 'For the sake of His sorrowful Passion have mercy on us and on the whole world.' In conclusion you are to say these words three times: 'Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world'. Jesus said later to Sister Faustina:

"Say unceasingly this chaplet that I have taught you. Anyone who says it will receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most hardened sinner, if he recites this Chaplet even once, will receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I want the whole world to know My Infinite Mercy. I want to give unimaginable graces to those who trust in My Mercy...." "....When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person not as the just judge but as the Merciful Savior".

God Speaks Today/ Dios Habla Hoy

Evangelio de la Semana Juan 20:1-9

Por ocho días la Iglesia ha observado el Domingo de Resurrección, regocijándose en la luz del Cristo resucitado. El tiempo d e Pascua será marcado por liturgias y relatos de cómo esos primeros discípulos y primeras comunidades cristianas fueron inspiradas, formadas y multiplicadas por la experiencia poderosa del Señor resucitado. Sera para toda la Iglesia y para cada uno de sus miem-bros un tiempo para reavivar la pasión ardiente de la fe cristiana y dar testimonio al mundo proclamando a Cristo crucificado y resucitado para la salvación de todos. La primera parte del evangelio de hoy de Juan nos relata que en el atardecer de ese primer domingo de resurrección lo s discípulos de Jesús se escondían por temor a las autoridades. Sin embargo, a su asombro y gozo, Cristo resucitado se hizo presente entre ellos dándoles su paz, respirando sobre ellos su Espíritu, enviándolos como sus apóstoles, y comisionándolos para perdonar los peca dos en su nombre. Las noticias parasen muy increíbles para Tomas, quien temía subir sus esperanzas en Jesús solo para que sean destruidas otra vez. Temía perder de nuevo al que el amaba y seguía. La segunda parte del narrado nos dice de otra manifestación del Señor resucitado en el próximo domingo (que sería el domingo de hoy). Esta vez, Tomas tiene su encuentro con el Cristo vivo y haber reconocidos sus heridas, solo puede tartamudear palabras de asombro, “¡Mi Señor y mi Dios!” Tomas fue de la incredulidad hacia la certeza, pero no re spondió con lo que cada uno de nosotros se nos pide, la fe. “Benditos los que sin haber visto creen.” La fe significa confianza y entrega, creencia y riesgo, y confianza audaz en el amor y la fidelidad del Cristo que se nos ha manifestado en las personas, experiencias, event os y señales a través cuales el viene a nuestro encuentro y nos habla. También hoy es el domingo de la Divina Misericordia en que celebramos la misericordia de Dios hacia toda la creación, hacia cada persona, hacia cada pecador. La misericordia que Dios nos muestra en la encarnación, vida, misión, pasión, muerte, resurrección y presencia perenne de Jesucristo entre nosotros, llamándonos de la muerte a la vida, de la esclavitud a la libertad, formados como un pueblo que da testimonio de su amor hacia todos, es lo que Santa Faustina llamo el atributo mayor de Dios. ¡Que apropiado que en este domingo, dos de los líderes de la Iglesia contemperaría, los papas Juan XXIII y Juan Pablo II, sean canonizados! Porque a través de sus ejemplos, esfuerzos y ministerios, nuevamente Jesucristo ha respirado su nueva vida en la Iglesia y la reafirmado en su misión al mundo. Que este día santo sea para toda la Iglesia en este tiempo de Pascua un ti empo de renovación refrescante, re-compromiso y testimonio intrépido a un mundo en gran necesidad de la buena nueva cristiana que clama, ¡Jesucristo ha resucitado, Aleluya!

Al anochecer de aquel día, el primero de la semana, estaban los discípulos en una casa, con las puertas cer-radas por mi edo a los judíos. Y en esto entró Jesús, se puso en medio y les dijo: -«Paz a vosotros.» Y, diciendo esto, les en-señó las manos y el

costado. Y los discípulos se llenaron de alegría al ver al Señor. Jesús repitió: -«Paz a vosotros. Como el Padre me ha enviado, así también os envío yo. » Y, dicho esto, exhaló su aliento sobre ellos y les dijo: -«Recibid el Espíritu Santo; a quienes les perdonéis los pecados, les quedan perdonados; a quienes se los retengáis, les quedan retenidos. » Tomás, uno de los Doce, llamado el Mellizo, no estaba con ellos cuando vino Jesús. Y los otros discípulos le decían: -«Hemos visto al Señor.» Pero él les

contestó:-«Si no veo en sus manos la señal de los clavos, si no meto el dedo en el agujero de los clavos y no meto la mano en su costado, no lo creo.» A los ocho días, estaban otra vez dentro los discípulos y Tomás con ellos. Llegó Jesús, estando cerradas las puertas, se puso en medio y dijo: -«Paz a vosotros.» Luego dijo a Tomás: -«Trae tu dedo, aquí tienes mis manos; trae tu mano y métela en mi costado; y no seas incrédulo, sino creyente.» Contestó Tomás: -¡Señor Mío y Dios mío! Jesús le dijo:-¿Porque me has visto has creído? Dichosos los que crean sin haber visto. Muchos otros signos, que no están escritos en este libro, hizo Jesús a la vista de los discípulos. Estos se han escrito para que creas que Jesús es el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios, y para que, creyendo, tengáis vida en su nombre.
