Mission

Student Success Story

“I chose Mission because as an eighth grader I looked up to the girls. They were so happy and looked like they had found a home, and I wanted the same thing. It may be a small school but it is filled with great teachers and friends.”

–Norma Retzepis, Class of 2015

College Preparatory

“As an educator at San Gabriel Mission High School, my goal has always been to open the eyes of my young women to their potential in the real world. While I strive to accomplish this each and everyday, I realize that my students not only meet this goal, but actually exceed my expectations. My students have empowered me to become the best educator I can be and challenge me to work to my potential.

Everyday, I walk with the students along their journey and they walk with me on mine. These young women are a blessing in my life and I cannot imagine being anywhere else!”

College Guidance

College counseling is provided to students at all grade levels. Once a month, students meet in small advisement groups with teachers or counselors to discuss the college admissions process. We provide SAT and ACT test prep, assistance with filling out college applications, connect students with scholarships, and inform students about summer enrichment opportunities. College representatives and Mission alumni also visit the school to speak with students about college admissions. Our goal is that all students will have access and succeed at a 4-year university.

Studentsuccessstory/empoweryoungwomen

“We enter as strangers, become friends, and leave as sisters.”

Empowering Women. . .

“I chose Mission High School because there are encouraging and loving teachers who care about me. I feel that I am getting a great education, which is important to me because I want to go to an Ivy League school. But I really love Mission because of the friendships, traditions, and sisterhood.”

–Claire Cruz, Class of 2015

The young women of SGMHS are not just individuals; they are part of a unique sisterhood. It is a special element that sets Mission apart and can be seen and felt by all who know us.

At SGMHS we express our Catholic Identity in the Dominican Way…

With our Minds…

• We learn about the person and message of Jesus Christ; how to live it and grow more deeply in our relationships with God, Self, and our fellow Mission Sisters through our Religion Classes, on retreats, in service to others, in our prayer life and in our commitment to social justice!

With our Hands…

• We serve the community by getting directly involved with service to under-resourced communities, individuals, and social justice issues as well as reflecting on the service and how we have grown from our time with these communities!

With our Voices…

• We proclaim the Good News in many ways beyond the classroom and beyond our service, but especially through Christian Leadership! Our retreat program, monthly liturgical celebrations, and daily prayer are all planned and lead by our students who are young women of faith!

Dear Friends,

After reading about all that San Gabriel Mission High School has to offer, I hope you feel inspired to come spend the day with us and truly feel the Pioneer spirit. At Mission we are committed to excellence in Catholic education, and emphasis is placed on a balanced college preparatory curriculum. With a teaching staff that is as varied as our students, our curriculum exceeds college and university expectations.

Mission is also a school where our young ladies can pursue extra-curricular activities that shape their character beyond the classroom walls. With an active campus ministry program, our students are nourished spiritually, and are encouraged to examine their relationship with God. I hope you feel that you have a place here and join the many generations of women who have made mission their home.

I look forward to seeing you on campus.
