An important teaching of the Diné people is to introduce oneself using our K’é – Diné Kinship System to establish relationships with one another and to better communicate what we are wanting to express. Therefore, I am Bilagáana, of Scottish decent on my mother’s side, born for the Kinyaa'áanii, Towering House people on my father’s side. My maternal grandfather, shicheii was also Bilagáana, of Scottish decent, while my paternal grandfather, shinálí was 'Áshįįhi, the Salt people of the Diné  people. This is who I am as a Diné woman

When someone steals our personal information including credit cards social security number, or even the passwords to our accounts, they can use the information for financial gain while at the same time ruining our own good name. This crime is called identity theft.

When someone tries to take away the identity of another through abuse or neglect, that person is guilty of identity theft. Anytime we belittle someone or try to enforce our own prideful will on someone else, we are basically trying to destroy their identity by replacing it with our own selfish desires of what we think should be done.

This survey originated from the Indicators of Schools of Quality developed over many years of research conducted by the National Study of School Evaluation (NSSE, 1997) and has been purposely refined for analysis to include stakeholder demographics of American Indian school systems. Intent of this survey is to help American Indian school systems better identify the strengths and limitations of the effectiveness of the instructional practices and organizational conditions of their school systems and to further reconcile research based knowledge of western academia with Indigenous wisdom for a greater sense of connectedness and ownership throughout tribal communities. This survey is not designed for staff evaluation. Instead, the focus is placed on assessing the overall effectiveness of American Indian school systems that serve predominately American Indian children.
