San Antonio SOLDIERS Youth Organization
SOLDIERS Volunteer Coaches The most successful youth sports pro-grams are supported by great volun-teers. Years from now many players will not remember if they won or lost, but will remember if they had a good coach or not. They are the people responsible for teaching young ath-letes how to play. They are also the ones that shape the overall experience for young athletes. The SOLDIERS organization is lucky enough to have several of those volun-teers. This past fall season Coach Blair volunteered his time to coach a 7U team in the NYS league and Coach Cooper volunteered for an 8U team in the Stone Oak Athletic league. I have had the pleasure of watching both of these coaches interact with players in all age levels and both put winning in perspective for their play-ers and taught them it’s just one part of the sport. They never let them for-get that it is just a game and should be fun. They emphasized to players that as long as they went out and compet-ed they would always be winners. They help develop confidence in every player and besides coaching; they shared wisdom and insight on life based on personal experiences. The SOLDIERS organization recog-nizes these coaches for being ordinary people doing extraordinary acts for their community. Come out and sup-port these coaches and their teams as they keep up the great work in the upcoming winter season.

“BIGGER THAN BASKETBALL”
Be alert and be aware! It’s easy to be distracted by crowds.
Keep valuables close to you and keep a firm grip.
Supervise children at all times. Older children should take a friend with them when going shopping.
Return to your ve-hicle frequently to unload purchases in the trunk.
Watch out for loi-terers near your car. Get a security guard for assis-tance if there are.
“I have a passion for kids and I want to teach them the importance of hard work
and team work.”
-Coach Blair
“Coaching is not a hobby for me, it’s a call-ing,...my phone rang 15 years ago and I’ve
been talking ever since.”
-Coach Cooper
San Antonio SOLDIERS Angel Tree Program
The San Antonio SOLDIERS are participating in the 2013 Angel Tree Program. Angel tree matches individuals with children from qualified families unable to provide gifts to their children during the holidays. We are asking our members to help support our efforts by sponsoring a child or children this holiday season. We currently have 15 chil-dren but would like to add at least 10 more to our list. The cost of the Angel Tree present is minimal. Each gift must be new and valued be-tween $15-$25. If you have already chosen your angel please contact Emmajean for their information. Deliv-er your gifts to Baptist Temple Church by De-cember 19th. Gifts will be delivered on De-cember 21st. Please let us know if you are in-terested in helping to deliver these gifts to the families. Thank you for you support.
