History of Samsung

Samsung Telecommunications – A Division of Samsung Electronics

This division is one of the five that comprise Samsung Electronics and includes theMobile Communications Division. Since its inception in Seoul, South Korea (1977),the company has seen major growth in both products and revenue. The growth wasseen was seen primarily due to ‘Samsung New Management’ initiative of 1993. Theinitiative purported the need to produce effective yet innovative phones or risk beingdissolved.

The first CDMA phone was designed in 1996 and the CDMA service market sharedominated by Samsung by 1997. With the change in trend, Samsung maintained itsdominance and has now, in 2015, offered to the market the latest in mobile technologyin the form of the Samsung Galaxy S6.

IntroductionThe Samsung Galaxy S6 is one of the latest releases of smart phones from SamsungElectronics. The phone was first unveiled in March 2015 at press conference at theMobile World Congress. It is the successor to their popular Samsung S5 smartphonewhich was released in 2014. The official release date for the phone is slated to be inApril 2015.

The Samsung S6 may look similar to the S5’s design but many of the features havebeen updated in the new model. One of the main updates is the change of the bodyfrom plastic to a metal frame with a back cover that is made of glass.

The unit also comes with an improved camera, wireless charging and a new mobilepayment approach that emulates the magnetic strip of a credit card. Otherimprovements include a HD display and a better fingerprint scanner.

Pre-Release ViewsThe Samsung S6 received positive commentary after it was unveiled as personsobserved the quality design over the previous versions. There were alsoimprovements in the camera and tweaks in the software to make it more user friendly

and less “bloated”.

The S6 also includes a fingerprint reader that can be compared to the Apple’s TouchID system which made an impact in the mobile market. Many persons feel that theSamsung S6 and S6 Edge has finally satisfied a complete Smart Phone device that hasall the necessary features. There were some concerns about the regression in somefeatures however it was made clear why this had to be done.

In regards to the S6 Edge, the curved display was seen as a vast improvement over theGalaxy Note Edge.

The Samsung S Series HistoryThe Samsung series of phones have been very influential in the changing of thelifestyle of many people. Essentially these phones have become integrated into thedaily lives of many people and it is virtually impossible to find an individual that doesnot own a smart phone.

The plethora of persons that own these devices range from children, teenagers youngadults all the way to senior citizens. The upsurge of these phones began from as earlyas the year 2000 when simple devices go do much more than a traditional cell phone.Messaging, calls and multimedia features were some of the things that turned manyusers on to the capability of a “smart device”. In the later years, this transformed intointernet ready handsets with capabilities quite similar to a desktop computer.

These devices have in fact now made most daily functions easily performed at thetouch of a button. Even some work functions have become easier due to productivitytools such as office suite applications. Leisure activities cannot be ignored with theuse of social media applications, music apps and video apps and so much more. Thesehave all been integrated in an easy to use device that is innovative and updatedconstantly.

Samsung, has been a world leader in this niche of smart phones and therefore is seenas one of the key players in the industry. While being a leader, there is no denying thatthere is immense competition in the market from other companies such as Apple andBlackberry.

One of the leading devices that Samsung offers is the Galaxy devices which run on theAndroid operating system. These are the flagship products of Samsung mobile and the

higher end of the spectrum is the Samsung S devices. The first Samsung Galaxy Sdevice was released in the year 2010 and a new one was released onwards since thatyear.

For each version of the S series smart phones, there are usually several variations.This is done to serve different markets around the world which may vary in somefeatures depending on service provider and location. The variation in the series alsogive the service providers the liberty of making additional variations to the device fortheir particular market.

Following the sales figures, as of the year 2013, there have been over 20 million unitssold worldwide. The very first Galaxy S series was met with great acclaim as manycritics saw it as a comparable device to the then Apple IPhone 4. Since that release,Samsung mobiles have been very fierce competition within the smart phone industryand with the release of the Samsung S6 and S6 edge it will be no different.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 unlike all of its predecessors had received mixed reviewsafter the release. The sales of the device was 40% lower than the S4. There werepraises however that the screen/display was improved but there were some criticismsthat the camera did not live up to expectations. In summary, the S5 did not live u tooexpectations and did not satisfy users as was expected.

Samsung realized this and made a great improvement when they released the S6 astheir new release in 2015. This new release is aimed at revitalizing their hold on themarket with technology and innovative features. Initial reviews have put the S6 in apositive light for the company and users are pleased with many of theimplementations.

Samsung S6The initial talk of the Samsung S6 allowed users to openly discuss the possibilities.The rumor mill went wild when hints of features started to be discussed in somequarters. Much of the talk was around a variant of the S6 which is the S6 edge and thenew chipset of the phone, the Exynos. This was a departure from the usual SnapdragonQualcomm.

Photo leaks were a part of the firestorm that followed the rumors and when the pre-release was launched the rumors were no more.

The official unveiling was done March 2015 at the Mobile World Congress. Theattendees had the opportunity to test out the features of the new S6 and S6 edge. It was

at this time that it was announced officially that these devices were the next in line tobe released. The OS of choice for these device is the latest Android OS, the Lollipop(version 5).

As expected, the phones come pre-loaded with Google apps such as the Play Store,Play Music, Hangout, Google Chrome and so much more. In addition to these, thereare some pre-loaded Microsoft applications such as Skype and One Drive. One of thehighlights with these combination is the free 15 GB worth of storage that is given withthe One Drive. This makes up for the lack of memory expansion on these devices.

The user interface has been simplified somewhat and has been made easier tonavigate. The sleek and smooth upgrade has been appreciated by the fans of Samsungand seems to be a step in the correct direction.

To this point, the new flagship models have been receiving good responses. This ispartially because they are the upgrades to the S5 phone where it kept the good partsand updated the not so good areas. Despite keeping much of the similar look, thedevices are being given a new fresh look.

One of the bold moves is that they have moved from their usual plastic look and havetook on a matte aluminium frame. This is not necessarily a new move from Samsungbut as it was tried in the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S series. There is also CorningGorilla Glass 4 that has been implemented in the S6 models. This gives a pleasinglook to the device. This move was also praised by the critics as the company has takenan approach to protect the front and back of the phone against scratches.

New ApproachesThe new models are equipped with the feature of wireless charging which alsoincorporates fast charging. This is seen as a significant change and increases theefficiency due to the integration of the glass facets of the devices.

The company has purported that these new approaches will take the phone 1.5 hours tofully charge from 0 to 100%.

CamerasAccording to Samsung, those are not the only new features that came about. They havealso improved the camera of the devices. The front and back camera has beenimproved and now performs better especially in low lighting areas. The rear facingcamera is rated at 16MP and has similar features to the Galaxy Note 4. The cameraalso comes with a LED flash. The front camera also received an upgrade from the

usual 2MP to 5MP. At this point, that is one of the highest MP available for a frontfacing camera among its competition.

Samsung PayAnother upgrade that is duly noted is the inclusion of Samsung Pay. This is a mobilepayment system that was developed through the purchase of a company who wasinvolved in that space. This feature has the capacity to work with up to 90% of pointof sales units in the United States. It has been stated that this mobile payment systemhas features that workaround the limitations of the competing mobile solutions.Therefore, they have made significant improvements to what is currently available inthat area.

Samsung Pay will essentially make the device function as if a credit or debit card wasswiped through a payment terminal. The devices will emit an electromagnetic chargethat will act as a conduct for the transaction. This technology is called MagneticSecure Transmission

It is also important to state that the phones still facilitate mobile payments throughNear Field Communications (NFC). These devices are the standard bearers for thissignificant upgrade.

The owners of the devices do not have to worry about theft of credit card informationas a new innovative approach to security has been taken. The information is stored inan isolated secure token and in addition, the payments are authenticated by using thefingerprints to make the transaction valid.

Fingerprint ScanningThe fingerprint scanning approach has also been upgraded. There are positive reviewsof this area as well. It is now seen that the fingerprint scanning is on par with theApple Touch ID system. Instead of swiping the fingers as was done in the S5, the S6and S6 edge have a touch based scanner to get accurate results.

Memory ExpansionThere were concerns about the fact that there was no memory expansion capabilities.These new devices have removed that feature which has always been present in theGalaxy devices. The manufacturers have insisted that this was done to improve theoverall performance and speed of the device. To accommodate for this, the devicewas released in three different versions, the 32 GB, 64 GB and the 128 GB.

SpecificationsThe Samsung S6 models uses a Nano SIM card as it has LTE capability. It has astandard inclusion of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technology.

The usual design of the Samsung Galaxy phones has the home button on the front of thephone. The power and the volume button are located at the side. However it isimportant to note that the SIM card slots of the two devices differ. The S6’s Nano SIM

card slot can be found at the side of the phone while the S6 edge can be found on theupper portion.

The S6 models are somewhat bigger than their predecessors. The screen sizes are 5.1inches and is equipped with a Super AMOLED feature. The resolution is 1440 x 2560with a density of 577 ppi. The phones have a screen resolution and are currently thebest in the market.

Super AMOLEDSuper AMOLED is really marketing term that was developed by Samsung that is usedto differentiate to users the regular AMOLED display. One of the main features is that the Super AMOLED screen has a digitizer which means that the touch detection has been placed into the screen and not the top of the screen. The Super AMOLED screen will also reflect some amount of the sunlight that catches the screen and the gaps between the layers of the screen will be minimized. Therefore, this approach makes it easier to look at the display while under the sun.

The change of the chipset to the Samsung Exynos chipset was onset by the fact theprevious chipset overheating while being run. The Exynos is manufactured in house bySamsung which was a plus and it gave a further improvement in performance. Thecompany opted to use their own infrastructure on their new flagships as it canaccommodate the upgrades better.

HardwareThe S6 phone has an octa-core CPU that runs with four 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and afour 2.1 GHz Cortex A57 and it has a RAM of 3 GB. This simply means that thedevices are able to run all the user’s needs efficiently and will enable smooth multi-tasking. The hardware can facilitate mobile gaming for heavy users while facilitating asmooth usage for prolonged usage.

S6 vs S6 EdgeThe difference in sizes are negligible which the user will not notice. The S6 Edgemeasures at 5.6 x 2.8 x 0.28 inches and the S6 measures in at 5.6 x 2.8 x 0.27 inches.The weight of the S6 Edge is lighter than the S6 weighing in at 4.6 ounces ascompared to 4.9 ounces.

The Batteries

There is also a difference between the batteries of the devices. The S6 contains a2,550 mAh battery while the S6 Edge has a 2,660 mAh battery. These values may besomewhat smaller than the Samsung S5 but there are new approaches to the systemespecially the chipset gives the new devices better battery efficiency.

The two devices have a wireless charging feature however the two devices can stillbe charged by the regular means. This is through the USB 2.0 port which can be usedto attach the cord to an adaptor. It is important to note that it has been a downgradefrom the Galaxy S5 USB 3.0 to ensure better performance and speed in the device. Itis also important to note that the waterproofing feature that was in the S5 is not presentin the S6 models.

The downgrades where enforced by Samsung to ensure that their S6 models improvedtheir overall performance and give the best experience for their devices. Thesemodels have set a new bar in the smart phone industry. It is a great attempt to level upthe completion with these flagship models.

New ApproachThe S6 and S6 Edge phone models offer a new and fresh approach to the Smart phoneindustry. There have been many changes to the phone series from the physical to theinternal parts. There have been improvements in the applications such as detectphysiological changes such as heartbeats. Installing the SIM Card1. Insert the supplied ejection pin into the hole located to the right side of the

Using the Touch Screen1. Tap- This feature requires the user to tap the screen using the finger. It is

2. Drag- This feature is to be used to move items from one place to another onscreen. To utilize, simply tap the item to be moved and drag across screento the desired location. Remove your finger to release the item.

3. Tap and Hold-This feature allows the user to access options related to specific menu items. To utilize the feature, simply tap and hold the item you wish to explore. The available options should be displayed on screen.

Adding Apps to Home Screen1. In the App Screen, use your finger to touch and hold the item you wish to

add to the Home Screen of the device.2. The finger should then be used to move the item and drop it on to the Home

Screen.

Widgets are unique features of smart phones that facilitate convenient access tospecified applications from the Home Screen. To add a desired Widget to yourHome Screen:

1. Use your finger to touch and hold down an empty area of the Home Screen.2. Select ‘Widgets’ from the options displayed by tapping.3. Review the available Widget options.4. Select the desired Widget5. Tap and hold down to confirm choice

Importing ContactsTo transfer contact information from another device to your Samsung Galaxy S6:

Connecting to a Wi-Fi NetworkAn activated Wi-Fi feature is necessary to wirelessly connect to a network.

1. From the drag down screen located to the top of the screen, select the Wi-Fi icon.

2. Touch the icon to turn the feature on.3. From the displayed Wi-Fi options, select the network of choice.4. Use your finger to touch the ‘CONNECT’ option.

Note: Some network will appear with a lock. To access these networks, apassword will be required.

Wi-Fi DirectNote: This feature is designed to enable connection of a wireless network withoutthe use of an access point.

1. From the drag down screen located to the top of the screen, select the Wi-Fi icon

2. Touch the icon to turn the feature on3. Use your finger to touch the ‘Wi-Fi Direct’ option.4. From the listed devices, choose the device to which you wish to be

connected.

**Connection will be completed when the request to connect has been accepted.

3. Double Tapping and Holding Screen- This feature allows the user to also afile, setting or menu option or to move items across screens or pages.

4. Swiping to the Left- This allows users to return to the previous page, fileor activity on the device.

5. Swiping to the Right- Swiping to the right using a finger moves the screenon to the upcoming item.

6. Swiping Upwards or Downwards-These one finger gestures are designedto allow for settings and menu changes. It is also useful while text selectionmode is activated and serves to the device’s cursor forwards orbackwards.

7. Swiping to the Left then Right in One motion-When a single finger is usedto carry out this action, the user is allowed to simply navigate up to thescreen.

8. Swiping to the Right then Left in One motion-When a single finger is usedto carry out this action, the user is able to navigate down the screen.

9. Swiping Upwards then Downwards in One Motion- This will allow theuser to move to the initial item that appears on the device’s screen.

5. Swiping Downwards- While text selection mode is activated, this willhighlight the complete text. It is also used to navigate upwards through alist of items on screen.

6. Swiping in Any Direction on A Locked Screen: This feature is designed tosimply unlock the screen to facilitate further use.

7. Swiping Downwards from the Top of the Screen- Using two fingers toswipe down with open the device’s notification panel located to the top of

the screen.

Three Finger GesturesThere are a number of three finger gestures that can be used to control the screen ofyour Galaxy S6 device during the use of Talkback.

1. Tapping- Using three fingers to tap the screen commences the reading ofitems out loud from the very top.

2. Tapping Twice- A three finger tap twice on the screen during Talkbackstarts the reading from the subsequent item.

3. Tapping Three Times-This feature allows the user to have the last selecteditem read aloud and copied for placement elsewhere.

4. Swiping to the Left or Right- This feature allows users to open andnavigate through menu options.

5. Swiping Upwards or Downwards-A three finger swipe in either of the twodirections will modify the text being read.

Using the Contextual MenuNote: While Talkback is being used:

1. Swiping to the left or right of the screen with three fingers will activate thecontextual menu and prompt the device to read out loud all the availableoptions.

2. To navigate the displayed options, use three fingers to swipe either left orright across the screen

3. Swipe up or down to accept the desired option and modify the option’ssettings.

Adding Image LabelsThis feature is designed to enable the attaching of labels to any number of imageswhen displayed on the screen.

Talkback Settings Speech Volume- This is used to modify the volume at which the voicefeedback is heardSpeech Rate- With this setting option, the user is able to select the desiredvoice feedback speed.Pitch Changes-With this setting, the device can be modified to read thetexts from the keyboard at a lower pitch.Keyboard Feedback- This setting will allow the device to verbalize wordstyped from the keyboard whenever the space key is tapped.Speak While Screen is off- This unique setting option will allow thedevice to still provide voice feedback to users even with the screenpowered off.Use Proximity Sensor- With this Talkback setting, whenever a hand isplaced over the sensor located to the top of device, active voice feedbackwill be placed on pause.Shake to Continue Reading- The user can select from a desired shakingspeed that when initiated will allow the device to verbalize any textcurrently displayed on screen.Vibration Feedback- With this Talkback setting, the device will be set tovibrate whenever the screen is been used.Sound Feedback- This setting option allows the user to assign sounds tovarious actions taking place on the device’s screen. This includes scrollingor tapping to make a selection.Focus on Speech Audio- With this setting option, the device will be able toautomatically adjust the volume at which media is read out loud.Sound Feedback Volume- When Sound Feedback has been activated; theuser is also able to modify the sound levels by using the device’s screen.Single-tap Selection- This setting allows the user to select an item onscreen by simply tapping once.

Back/Recent Key Feedback-This setting will facilitate voice feedbackwhenever the ‘Recent’ or ‘Back’ keys are selected. To activate the feature,tap either key twice.Status Bar Information- With this setting, tapping the device’s screen threetimes using only two fingers will allow of the verbalizing of items onscreen.Developer Options- This setting allows the user to assign applicationdevelopment options.

Using Device When Screen is OffThis unique feature facilitates privacy of the images, file or apps that are on screen bypowering off the screen without deactivating apps or features. To activate this:

Entering Text with KeyboardNote: With Rapid Key Input activated

1. Tap anywhere on screen twice to activate the keyboard2. Touch the desired key with your finger. The device will verbalize the keys

indicated.3. Remove your finger from the key to select it

4. Without Rapid Key Input-release the finer from the desired character andrapidly tap anywhere on screen to select.

To enter additional characters1. Touch and hold down a desired key to activate the pop-up window

displaying available characters2. Pull your finger across the screen and release when the desired

character has been heard.

Magnifying the ScreenWith this feature users are able to enlarge or zoom in on specific areas on the screen.To activate the feature:

1) Go to the Apps Screen2) Enter the ‘Settings’ option and select Accessibility’3) Select ‘Vision’ from the displayed accessibility options4) Select ‘Magnification gestures’ 5) Tap the switch to activate the feature

Magnifying Screen Options1. Zooming In & Out- When using this option, gently but quickly tap the

specific area on screen three times. To return the screen to the normalview, simply repeat the move.

2. Scroll to Explore the Screen- While the screen is magnified, the user maypull two fingers across to navigate the screen’s details.

3. Adjusting Zoom Ratio- Select your choice of two fingers. On the magnifiedscreen squeeze the fingers together or widened the distance between both.

The screen can also be temporarily magnified. To do this:

1. Tap the screen three times and hold down on down on the last2. While holding the screen, bring your finger across the screen if you wish to

navigate the screen’s details.3. The screen will return to the normal view when the finger is lifted from the

screen.

Note: The functionality of applications such as the calculator may be hamperedby the activated feature.

Using a Magnifier1. Go to the Apps screen2. Enter the ‘Settings’ screen3. Tap the ‘Accessibility’ settings and select the ‘vision’ option.4. Select ‘Magnifier Window’ and touch the switch to activate. A magnifying

glass will appear on the screen. 5. Use your finger to pull the glass to the desired place on screen.

Converting Screen to Greyscale Mode1. Go to the Application screen2. Enter the ‘Settings’ screen and select the ‘accessibility’ setting3. Select ‘Vision’ followed by ‘Greyscale’4. Tap the switch labelled ‘Negative Colours’ to activate.

Color AdjustmentThis feature will modify how the color on the device’s screen will appear. It is idealfor those suffering from a visual impairment.

1. Go the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ option2. Tap ‘Accessibility’ followed by the setting for ‘Vision’3. Tap the ‘Color Adjustment’ option4. Tap the switch to activate the feature.5. Follow the instructions that will be displayed on screen thereafter to

complete activation of the feature.

Sound DetectorsNote: With this feature the device can be set to automatically vibrate when adoorbell is rung or a baby’s cry is detected.

Baby Crying Detector1. Go the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ screen2. From the settings options displayed, select ‘Accessibility’3. Select the ‘Hearing’ feature followed by ‘Sound Detectors’4. Tap the ‘Baby Cry Detector’ and touch the switch to activate

Note: The device will now record and save the alert whenever the sound isdetected.

Doorbell Detector1. Go the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ screen2. From the settings options displayed, select ‘Accessibility’3. Select the ‘Hearing’ feature followed by ‘Sound Detectors’4. Use your finger to tap the ‘Doorbell selector switch to activate5. Tap the record button (red circle) and make a recording of your doorbell. The

sound of the doorbell will be detected and stored.6. Tap the record button a second time. Ring your doorbell and confirm that the

recording was correctly made.7. When the sound is detected by the device, press ‘OK’ when it appears on

screen.

Note:

The doorbell sound bell can be changed at any time by selecting the ‘Change Doorbell Sound’

The device will now record and save the alert whenever the sound is detected.

Setting Flash NotificationThis feature allows the device’s flash to blink whenever it detects incoming calls,messages and notification.

Adjusting the Sound BalanceThis feature is designed to automatically modify the sound balance during the use ofthe headset.

Auto HapticThis unique feature is ideal for those who are hearing impaired. It is designed to allowthe device to vibrate along with the sounds being emitted during the playing of songs,games or videos. To activate the feature:

1. Go to the Apps screen2. Enter the Settings menu and select the ‘Accessibility’ feature3. Choose the ‘Hearing’ option4. Touch the ‘Auto Haptic’ switch to complete activation

Note: This feature is not supported by all applications.

Universal SwitchThis feature is designed to read aloud items that have been highlighted on the screen.The touch screen of the S6 device can be directed by the use of facial or headgestures, tapping the screen or by having an external switch connected.

1. Go to the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ menu2. Select ‘Accessibility’ from the options provided3. Select the ‘Dexterity and interaction’ option4. Tap the ‘Universal Switch’ option and the switch to activate

Note: Where no universal switches are made available on the device, selectthe ‘ADD SWITCH’ option and select the desired switch to direct the device.

Simply press the Home Key 3 times if you wish to deactivate this feature.

Assistant Menu

Assistive Shortcut IconThis feature enables the device to show the assistive shortcut icon for entrance toassistive menu settings, device features and applications.

1. Go to the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ menu2. From the splayed settings options, choose ‘Accessibility’3. Select ‘Dexterity and Interaction followed by the ‘Assistant Menu’4. Use your finger to tap the Assistant Menu switch to activate the feature and

display the shortcut icon to the bottom right of the screen5. Select ‘Dominant Hand’ to have it moved the location of choice

Assessing Assistive MenuThis can be easily accessed by tapping the floating assistive icon. When the iconexpands to display the assistive menus:

1. Move to other panels by using the up and down arrows2. Select from the menu options by using your finger to swipe up or down

Using Enhanced Assistive MenusThe feature is designed to display a range of enhanced menu options for specifiedapplications on the device.

1. Go to the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ menu2. Select ‘Accessibility’3. From the provided accessibility option, select ‘Dexterity and Interaction’4. Select the ‘Assistant Menu’ option5. Select ‘Assistant Plus’ and tap the switch to have the feature activated

6. Select the desired applications

Turning on the Screen Air Gesture1. Go to the Apps screen2. Enter the ‘Settings’ menu and select ‘Accessibility’ from the options

displayed3. Select ‘Dexterity and Interaction’4. Choose ‘Gesture Wake Up’5. Touch the switch to have the feature activated and ready for use

Note: The air gesture feature allows the user to move a hand in front of thesensor to power on the screen. Be sure that where this feature is to be used,the Samsung Galaxy S6 device is firmly placed, face turned upwards, on a flatsurface or held firmly in hand.

Setting Tap and Hold Delay OptionsThis feature allows the user to assign the recognition time for the tapping and holdingfeature.

1. Go to the Apps screen and enter the ‘Settings’ menu2. From the available menu options, choose ‘Accessibility’3. Select ‘Dexterity and Interaction’4. Select ‘Tap and hold Delay’ and select the desired option.

Interaction Control1. From the Apps screen enter the ‘Settings’ menu2. From the listed settings option, select ‘Accessibility’3. Select the ‘Dexterity and Interaction’ option followed by ‘Interaction

Control’4. Use your finger to tap the switch and activate the feature5. Find the Home and Volume keys. Press and hold then down simultaneously

during the use of an app6. The frame size can then be adjusted to be restricted.7. Select the ‘DONE’ option

Note: The device will depict the restricted area and disable hard keys.

To deactivate the feature, press and hold down the Home and Volume keys at the same time.

Creating Folders1. From the Home Screen, use your finger to touch the app and hold it and

move it over another application.2. Release the help add when a folder frame is shown around the apps. A new

folder containing those apps will be created.3. Touch Enter Folder Name and enter the new name of the folder. To change

the color of the folder press the color swatch.

To add more apps to the folder, hold and drag more apps to the folder.

Sorting the Panels

1. From the home screen, use your finger to touch any empty area to modify orremove a panel.

If you want to add a panel swipe the screen and touch the plus sign.

If you want to move a panel, touch and hold the panel preview and then pull it tothe new location.

If you want a panel removed, touch and hold a panel preview and then pull it toremove which is at the top of the screen.

To set a panel as the home screen, touch the home icon.

Application ScreenThe App Screen is where all the icons are displayed which are all the apps thatare installed on the phone.

From the home screen, use your finger to touch Apps which will open theApplication Screen. If you need to view other screens just swipe the screen leftor right or select an indicator at the bottom of the screen.

To Moving an itemTo modify anything on the App Screen touch EDIT. Touch the item that you wantmoved hold and move it to the new location. To move the item to another paneltouch and pull it to the side of the screen.

IconsThere are icons that will be on the top of the screen that show the current statusof the phone.

Lock ScreenTo lock the screen the power key can be pressed. The screen will alsoautomatically turn off if the device is not used for a specific amount of time.

To unlock the screen, press the power key or the home key and swipe the screenin any direction.

The way the phone is unlock can be adjusted based on user preference. From theapps screen, touch Settings -> Lock Screen and Security -> Screen Lock Typethen the user can select a screen lock method.

PatternA pattern can be drawn by connecting four dots or more to unlock the screen.The user will be asked to verify the pattern again to confirm it. They will alsobe asked to setup a backup PIN to unlock the screen in the event the unlock

pattern is forgotten.

PINThe PIN will consists of at least four numbers. Once it is entered the user willbe asked again to confirm the entry.

PasswordThe password can consists of characters and numbers. The minimum entry forpasswords are four characters which should include numbers and symbols.When entered, it must be entered twice to confirm the entry.

Notifications

Notification PanelWhen the user has received a new notification, the icons will appear in thestatus bar. For more information on the indicator, open the panel and view thedetails on the message.

To view the notification panel the status bar can be swiped down. To removethe notification panel it can be swiped upwards.

Quick SettingsTo access extra features touch the quick settings buttons and swipe the buttons tothe left or right to view more settings. To get additional settings, use your fingerto touch and hold the button. If you desire to rearrange the buttons touch EDITand tap and hold the button and then it can be pulled to another position.

S FinderThis allows the user to search for content by using a keyword.

How to search on the device

1. Go into the notification panel and use your finger to touch the S Finder2. To search enter the word to search for or press the microphone to use

voice search.3. To get more accurate results, touch the filter buttons under the search field

and then select the additional details.

Quick ConnectThis function allows the phone to search for devices that are near and connect tothem.

To be able to connect to other devices that do not support QuickConnect, Wi-Fi Direct or Bluetooth must be activated.The connection methods vary depending on the type of connecteddevices or the content.

Connections – Other Devices1. Access the notification panel and use your finger to touch Quick Connect

If this is the first time the setting is being accessed, select a visibility option andthen touch ENABLE QUICK CONNECT.

When this panel is opened the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features and enabledautomatically and the device will search for nearby devices.

Once the device has been detected, you can choose the device and connect to itby following the on-screen instructions.

Re-search for devicesIf you have searched for a device and it does not appear in the list then touchrefresh and it should appear.

Sharing content with the device1. Swipe down and open the notification panel and then use your finger to

touch Quick Connect.2. Select the desired device to share with.

3. Touch share content and select a media type.4. Follow the instructions on the screen to send the content to the selected

device.

Typing Text

KeyboardThe keyboard will appear whenever the user needs to enter text. This can bedone when typing messages or any other text input need.

Input Language

Tap the Settings Wheel ->Select input languages and then choose which inputlanguage you choose. To be able to switch between multiple languages the usercan swipe the space bar left or right to switch between the choices.

Layout of KeyboardTo change the layout of the keyboard, Touch the Settings Wheel and then select alanguage under input languages. The keyboard layout can then be selected to theuser’s preference.

Copying and Pasting

1. Touch and hold the text that you desire to copy or cut.2. Pull the markers across the test that you desire to be selected.3. Touch copy or cut. The text will then be put to the clipboard of the phone.4. Put the cursor where the text should be pasted and touch paste.

DictionaryThe phone offers a dictionary which allows the user to lookup words when they are incertain features or browsing web pages.

1. Touch and hold the word you want to look up, if that does not select, dragthe selectors over the desired text.

2. Touch the Dictionary on the options list. If the dictionary is not installedcurrently, tap the download arrow to install it.

3. The definition will pop up in another window.

Opening an appFrom the home screen of the phone, touch the app icon and it will be opened. To openan application from the list of recently used apps, press and select the desiredwindow.

Closing an appTo close an app touch the button and drag the recent application window to theright or the left. If the user desires to close all the apps simply touch CLOSE ALL.

Multi WindowsMulti Windows allow you to run two applications at the same time using the splitscreen view.

Multiple apps can be run at the same by using the pop-up view.

Split Screen1. To get the split screen, press the button and the list of recently used app

will be displayed.2. Swipe up or down and then tap the on the recent app window and the

chosen app will go into the upper window.

1. Select another app for the bottom window.

Additional optionsWhile the phone is in split screen mode, a window can be selected and thecircle between the app windows can be pressed to access additional options.

: This icon allows the user to drag and drop text or copies images from one window to the

next. Touch and hold the item in the selected window and drag it to thedesired spot in the

next window.

Adjust the Window Size

To adjust the window the size the user should drag the circle between the appwindows up or down to adjust the size of the windows.

Pop-up View1. To use the pop up view, first an app should be opened2. Drag down in a diagonal motion from the top edge of the screen.

Moving a pop up windowTo do this, the circle on the window should be tapped and dragged to its newplace.

Accessing the pop-up view from the split screen view

1. From the split screen view, touch the app window to launch it in theapp view.

2. Touch and hold the circle between the app windows3. The app will then open in a pop up window

Managing the DevicePhone SwitchWhen changing phones, Samsung has a process called Samsung Smart Switch thatallows you to transfer data from your old device to your new one.

There are two versions:

Mobile version – This allows the transfer of data between phone units. This can bedownloaded from the Google Play Store or Galaxy apps

Computer Version – This allows the transfer of data between a computer and themobile phone. This version can be downloaded at www.samsung.com/smartswitch.

Mobile – Mobile – TransfersThis is what is used to transfer your old data from your previous Android device toyour new Samsung device.

1. Turn on the new device for the first the first time then touch DOWNLOADAND OPEN in the smart switch application to install the app.

2. On the previous phone, download the Smart Switch from Galaxy Apps orPlay Store.

3. Launch the app on the two devices.4. On the old device, touch ANDROID TO GALAXY -> SEND CONTENT

The devices will automatically detect each other and connect.

1. On your older device select the data you want to send to the new deviceand touch SEND.

2. On the newer device, touch RECEIVE on the connection pop up window tobe able to receive the data. The data transfer will begin.

3. Touch finish on both devices when transfer is completed.

Computer TransferThis mode allows the user to back up data from the previous device to a computer andimport the data to the new device.

1. Download the Smart Switch software fromwww.samsung.com/smartswitch

2. Launch the software (if your previous device was not a Samsung device,backup to the computer using your device’s provided software. Then skipto step 5.

3. Connect the device to the computer using a USB cable.4. Follow the on-screen instructions to back up the device and then disconnect

from the computer when completed.5. Connect the new device to the computer using the USB cable.6. Follow the on-screen instructions to do the transfer on the new device.

Using the phone as a removable device for transferring dataThis connection will enable the user to move audio, video or any kind of documentsbetween the phone and the computer.

Notices

Do not disconnect the USB cable while a transfer is active. This may cause loss ofdata or device damage.

Always connect the phone directly by USB. Do not use USB hubs as theconnection may not be properly established.

1. Connect the device using the USB cord.2. Access the notification panel and then touch Connected as a media device -

> Media device (MTP)

If the appropriate driver is not installed on your computer you may have to touchCamera (PTP) to enable transferring of files.

1. When the connection has been established, the files can be transferred.

Updating the device

This procedure allows the device to allows be updated to the latest software.

Updating over the airThe device can be updated over the air (FOTA).

This is done from the Apps screen by pressing Settings -> About device -> Softwareupdate -> Update now.

The phone can automatically check for updates by enabling the Auto update switch. Itcan also be restricted to download updates when a Wi-Fi connection is present bytapping the Wi-Fi only switch to activate it.

Updating with Smart SwitchThe device can also be connected to a computer and updated via the Smart switchsoftware.

1. Download and install the Smart Switch software and the computer. It canbe found at www.samsung.com/smartswitch.

2. Launch the software on the computer.3. Connect the phone to the computer via the USB cable.4. On the computer click the update button in the connection window.

Note:

Do not turn off the computer or disconnect the device while updating.

While the device is being updated no other media device should beconnected to the computer. This may interfere with the updating of thephone. It is best to disconnect the rest of devices from the computer.

Creating a backup and restore dataThe user can keep their personal information, app data and settings safe on thedevice. All their sensitive information can be backed up to an account to be ableto be accessed later. To be able to commence a backup or restore files you mustbe signed in to a Samsung or Google account.

Samsung Account

On the app screen, touch Settings-> Backup and reset -> Back up my data, selectthe items needed to back up and touch BACK UP NOW.

The device can be set to automatically backup and this is done by enabling theAuto back up switch.

To restore data to the phone using a Samsung account, touch Restore. Thecurrent information on the phone will be deleted and restored to the selecteditems.

Using a Google accountOn the app screen touch Settings -> Backup and reset, then touch Back up mydata switch to activate it. Touch the Backup account and select which accountyou desire to use as the backup account.

To restore data using the Google account, touch the Automatic restore switch toactivate it. When the applications are re-installed the backup settings will berestored.

Data ResetThis process will restore all the original settings on the device. Before doing afactory reset, ensure that you back up all the important information on thedevice.

To do this, from the Apps screen touch Settings-> Backup and reset -> Factorydata reset -> RESET DEVICE -> ERASE EVERYTHING. The device willautomatically restart.

Connecting the phone to a TV

Register a TV to your device to allow the easy sharing of content between them.

Registering a TVThis process registers a TV to your device. Once this is completed, the screenof the phone can be easily shared between the device and the TV.

1. Turn on the TV and place the phone in close proximity.2. Access the notification panel and then touch Quick Connect.3. Select the TV and touch Register TV.

Sharing ScreenThe screen of the device can be mirrored on the TV or vice versa.

Note: This feature is only compatible with Samsung Smart TVs that werereleased in 2015 that support the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Feature.

Mirroring the device screen to the TVThe device will recognize the TV that has been registered and while you are using the

TV an icon will appear on the device. Once you touch this icon the video will bestreamed directly from your device to the TV.

If the TV is turned off while registered with Quick Connect it will automatically turnon and your devices screen will appear on the TV screen.

Mirror the TV Screen to the device1. Access the notification panel and touch Quick Connect2. Select the registered TV.

3. Touch TV to mobile device. The TV Screen will now appear on yourdevice.

Briefing on TV FeatureThe registered TV can be turned on automatically by setting a pre-set time on yourdevice. It can display the time, weather and schedule information on the screen. To usethis feature the phone and the TV must be connected to the same access point.

Note: This feature is only compatible with Samsung Smart TVs that werereleased in 2015 that support the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Feature.

1. Access the notification panel and touch Quick Connect.

The registered TV will be on the list.

1. Select the registered TV.2. Touch Briefing on TV

All the information will be displayed on the screen of the TV.

Sharing files with contacts

Users can share files with their contacts easily by using the sharing feature.

1. Touch Gallery on the apps screen2. Select which images you desire to share.3. Touch Share -> Contacts4. Select the recipients and then touch DONE

If the contact’s phone does not support the feature a link with the files will betexted to them. IT will expire after some time.

Note: Additional charges may be incurred when sharing files via a mobilenetwork.

Emergency Mode

This mode will change the appearance of the screen to grey tones to reduce theconsumption on the battery. Some apps may be restricted from being used. Inthis mode, you can make an emergency call, send your current location to others,sound an emergency alarm and more. To access this mode, press and hold thePower key and then touch the Emergency Mode.

The estimated usage time shows the time remaining before the battery powerwill run out. The time shown may vary depending on settings and conditions.

Deactivating emergency modeTo deactivate the emergency mode, touch MORE -> Disable Emergency mode.As an alternative the user can press and hold the power key and then touch theEmergency mode.

MessagesThe phone sends and view messages in a conversation style window.

Sending Messages

1. Touch Messages from the apps screen.2. Touch the composition icon.3. Add the recipient’s information and enter the message.4. Touch SEND to send the message.

Viewing messagesThe messages are grouped into a message thread sorted by contacts.

1. Touch the Messages icon on the App Screen.2. On the messages list, select a contact.3. View the conversation thread

InternetThe phone has the option of browsing the internet to search for information and

bookmark favourite websites to access them when needed.

1. Touch the Internet icon on the apps screen.2. Tap the address box field.3. Enter the web site desired to visit, then touch go.

EmailSetting up an email account for the first time

1. Touch Email on the apps screen.2. Enter the email address and password then touch NEXT.3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

If you desire to add an additional account touch MORE-> Settings-> Add account.

If you have more than one email account, there is an option to set either one as thedefault email account. Touch MORE-> Settings -> MORE -> Set default account.

Sending an email1. Tap the compose icon to compose an email.2. Add the intended recipients and enter the body of the email.3. Touch SEND to send the email.

Reading the emailOn the emails view, touch the email that you want to read

CameraThe phone can take photos and record videos that use various modes andsettings.

Shooting Photos or VideosWhen the photos or videos are captured using the phone they are all stored in theGallery.

Touch the Camera icon on the apps screen

Notes:

- Do not make recordings of persons without their permission.

- Do not make recordings where it is legally prohibited.- Do not make recordings in places where people’s privacy may beviolated.

Capturing photos or videos1. Touch the image on the preview screen where the camera should be

focused.2. Tap the photo icon to capture a photo or touch the video icon to

record a video.

Tips:

- Spread your fingers while touching the screen to zoom in andpinch your fingers to zoom out.

- To snap an image from a recording in progress, touch Capture.- To change the focus while recording a video, touch where you

want to focus. Focus on the centre of the screen tap the focusicon.

While on the preview screen, swipe to the right to access the list of shooting modes. Swiping left will allow the user to view the photos can videos that have been captured by the device.

Things to know:

- The preview screen may be different based on the currentshooting mode and which camera is enabled.

- The camera will automatically shut off when it is not being used.- Always make sure the lens is kept clean. If dirty, the camera may

not work in high resolution.- The front camera lens is best suited for taking wide angle shots.

They may be minor distortions in wide angle photos, it is a normaloccurrence and this does not mean the device is not working.

- The maximum recording time may be reduced when capturing highresolution captures.

Launching the Camera from the locked screenTo be able to quickly take photos, the user can launch the Camera from the lockedscreen. To launch this, drag the camera icon outside the large circle and it will belaunched.

Note:

Some camera features may not be available when launched this way as some ofthe security features may still be activated.

Launching the Camera quicklyTo do this, press the home button twice in quick succession to launch the camera. Thecamera will launch into the auto mode.

HDR (High Dynamic Range)This feature allows eth phone to capture pictures with rich colors and reproduce finedetails in bright and dark places.

To activate/deactivate HDR mode, open the preview screen press until the desiredoption is selected.

Icon: The device will automatically activate HDR based on the surroundingconditions.

Tracking AFThe device can be set to track a subject and automatically focus on the subject. Thiscan still be done even when the subject is moving or changing the composition.

1. From the preview screen, tap the settings wheel and touch the Tracking AFswitch to activate it.

2. Touch the return arrow to go back to the preview screen.3. Touch the subject you want to track.4. Touch the photo icon to capture a photo and touch the video icon to record

a video.

Note:

The tracking may fail if:

- The subject is too big or too small for the capture.- The subject is moving excessively.- There is too much brightness in the picture or it is too dark.- Patterns on the subject match the background.- The subject includes horizontal blinds.- The camera is shaking excessively.- The video resolution may be too high.

Auto ModeThis mode allows the camera to evaluate the surroundings and determine the idealsettings for the pictures. From the preview screen touch MODE-> Auto.

Focus Locking and ExposureIf there are difficult lighting conditions and the subject is out of the auto focus area, itmay be difficult to get a good exposure. The user can then lock the focus or exposureand then take the photo. Tap and hold the area to focus, the AF/AE frame will appearon the area and the focus and exposure settings will be locked. The settings willremain set after you take the photo.

Pro ModeThis mode allows the user to take photos after manually adjusting the differentshooting options such as the exposure and ISO values.

From the preview screen, touch MODE -> Pro. Adjust the options as desired and thentouch the photo icon to take a photo.

Icon: This selects a color effect. The user can create their own effects and save it as aPreset option.

Icon: This changes the focus mode. The adjustment bar can be manually adjusted tochange the focus. If the user desires auto focus mode, the bar can be dragged towardsAUTO.

Icon: This can be used to set an appropriate white balance value. This can give theimage a true to life appearance.

Icon: This is used to adjust the ISO value. It controls the camera light sensitivity.Lower values are better for stationary or brightly lit subjects. Higher values are best

suited for fast moving or poorly lit objects. It is important to note that the higher ISOsettings can produce noise in the photos.

Icon: This is used to change the exposure value. This setting will set how much lightthe camera sensor will receive. In lower light situations, use a higher exposure.

Save the current setting as a custom settingFrom the preview screen, touch Custom-> Save current settings, choose a name andthen touch SAVE.

To apply these settings to the camera, open the preview screen then touch Custom andthen select the name.

Separating the exposure area and the focus areaIf there is a bright light affecting the contrast of the subject or the subject is outside ofthe auto focus area, this feature can be used to achieve an appropriate exposure. If theuser desires, the exposure and the focus area can be separated and the exposure levelbe set for the subject.

1. From the preview screen, touch and hold the area to be focused on. TheAF/AE frame will appear on the area of focus.

2. The AF/AE frame can be dragged over the exposure area.

The exposure area will be separate from the focus area.

Selective FocusThis feature can be used to make specific objects stand out in a photo.

1. From the preview screen, touch MODE -> Selective focus.2. Touch the image on the preview screen when the camera should focus.3. Touch the photo icon to capture a photo4. Touch the preview thumbnail5. Touch the focus icon ad select one of the following:

Near Focus: This makes the subject stand out and blurs the background aroundthe subject.

Far Focus: The subject is blurred and the background is made to stand outaround the subject.

Pan Focus: In this mode, both the subject and background will stand out.

1. Touch Save

Recommendations:

It is best that subject is positioned within 50cm of the device.In capturing photos, make sure that there is enough distancebetween the subject and the background. The distance should bemore than at least three times the distance between the deviceand the subject.There are many things to affect the outcome of the photo. Suchas:

The device or the subject is moving.There is strong background light, low lighting or indoorphotos.The subject or background has not pattern and are bothplain.

PanoramaA series of photos can be taken either horizontally or vertically and they can bestitched together to create a wider scene.

From the preview screen, touch MODE-> Panorama

Recommendations:

Move the camera in one direction.Let the image being focuses on stay within the frame of theviewfinder.Plain or indistinct backgrounds do not make good subjects.

Slow MotionA video can be recorded to be viewed in slow motion. Specific areas of the videoscan be played in slow motion.

1. From the preview screen touch MODE -> Slow motion.

2. Touch the recording icon to start recording.3. Touch the stop icon to stop recording.4. On the preview screen, the preview thumbnail can be used to view.5. Tap the icon and the video will start paying with a random set slow

motion area.

Editing slow motion sections1. From the preview section, touch the preview thumbnail.2. Touch . The video will start playing with a random section in slow

motion3. Tap the pause icon to pause the playback.4. The start and end bracket should be dragged to the desired points to trim

the video as desired.5. The circle icons should be placed at the start and end of the video that you

want set in slow motion.6. Once the section has been set, the following options can be used:

Speed: The speed of the selected area can be changed.

Split: The section can be divided into two parts.

Delete: The section can be deleted.

1. Touch the icon to preview the video.2. Touch EXPORT to save the video.

Fast motionA video can be recorded to be viewed in fast motion. Specific areas of thevideos can be played in fast motion.

1. From the preview screen, touch MODE -> Fast motion.2. Touch the recording button to start recording.3. When finished recording touch the stop icon.4. When in the preview screen, tap the preview thumbnail5. Tap the icon and the video will start paying with a random set fast

motion area.

Virtual ShotThis feature allows the user to take a series of photos while going around asubject in a circle. This enables views from multiple angles. The user can thendrag their finger left or right over the photo to view the subject from differentangles.

1. From the preview screen, touch MODE -> Virtual shot2. The subject can be placed in the center of the preview screen and tap the

picture icon.3. The device should then be moved slowly around the subject slowly in one

direction. When the arrow becomes yellow or the user has stopped circlingthe subject the device will stop taking the photos.

Viewing the virtual shots1. From the preview screen touch the preview thumbnail.2. Tap <icon>3. Drag your finger left or right to slowly rotate the picture and allow views

from different angles.

Taking SelfieThe phone allows the users to easily capture self portraits

1. From the preview screen tap <icon> to change to the front camera that isused for selfies.

2. Touch MODE-> Selfie.3. Face the camera.4. When your face has been detected, touch the sensor on the back of device

or touch the front screen to capture the photo.

There is also an option to capture photos using your palm. Touch the settingswheel then touch Gesture Control to activate the feature. Show your palm to thecamera and once it recognizes your palm it will take the photo after twoseconds.

Wide SelfieThe phone is able to take a self-portrait that is wide which will allow multiplepersons to be in the shot.

1. From the preview screen, tap the <icon> to change to the front camera forselfies.

2. Touch MODE-> Wide Selfie3. Face the front camera.4. When your face has been detected, touch the sensor on the back of device

or touch the front screen to capture the photo.

There is also an option to capture photos using your palm. Touch the settingswheel then touch Gesture Control to activate the feature. Show your palm to thecamera and once it recognizes your palm it will take the photo after twoseconds.

1. The device can be slowly swivelled to the left then the right to take thewide selfie. The device will take additional pictures when the whiteframes move to each end of the viewfinder window.

Notes:

Keep the white frames inside the viewfinder window at all times.All subjects of the photos should remain still.The lighting conditions can affect the resolution of the shot.The top and the bottom parts of the image displayed in thepreview screen may be cut out of the photo. This may bedependent on the shooting conditions.

Interval ShotThis feature allows the user to take multiple selfies at an interval and savethe pictures you need.

1. From the preview screen, tap the <icon> to change to the camera forselfies.

2. Touch MODE-> Interval Shot.3. When the phone detects the user’s face, the sensor at the back can be touch

to take the picture. The screen can also be touched to capture the photo.

The phone will capture four photos in two second intervals.

There is also an option to capture photos using your palm. Touch the settingswheel then touch Gesture Control to activate the feature. Show your palm to thecamera and once it recognizes your palm it will take the photo after twoseconds.

1. Touch the pictures you want to save and touch SAVE.

Downloading ModesAdditional shooting modes can be downloaded from Galaxy Apps.

From the preview screen, touch MODE -> Download.

Note:

Some of the additional shooting modes can now be used on all features. The usercan swipe the screen to the right to view the modes lift and swipe left to view thecaptured content may not be available at all times.

Camera SettingsQuick SettingsIcon: This is used to select a filter effect to use when taking a picture or recording avideo. To download additional effects, touch Download.

Icon: This is used to capture pictures with rich colors and the details will bereproduced in bright and dark areas.

Icon: This selects a metering method. This will determine how light values arecalculated. The Centre Weighted selected will use the light in the centre of the shot tocalculate the exposure. The Spot selection will use the light in a concentrated centrearea of the shot to calculate the exposure of the shot. The Matrix selection willaverage the entire scene.

Icon: This allows the user to select a delay before the camera will automatically takea photo.

Icon: The slide bar can be adjusted to take a photo with lightened faces for smootherimages.

Icon: This selection will activate or de-activate the flash.

Camera SettingsThese are accessed from the preview screen by tapping the settings wheel.

Picture size (rear)/ Picture size (front): This option will adjust the resolution for thephotos. The higher resolution will give the user higher quality photos but will result ina larger sized picture.

Video size (rear)/ Video size (front): This option will adjust the resolution for thevideos. The higher resolution will give the user higher quality videos but will result ina larger sized picture.

Gesture Controls: This can be used to set the phone to detect the user’s palm. This ismostly used to enable selfies.

Save as horizontally flipped: This feature is used to invert the image and create amirrored version of the original image.

Tracking AF: This is used to allow the phone to track and automatically focus on aselected subject. This will hold true even if the subject is moving.

Video Stabilisation: This is used to activate the anti-shake feature which will reduceor eliminate blurriness that is caused from camera shake while a video is beingrecorded.

Grid Lines: This will enable the viewfinder guides to help the composition of a shotwhen setting subjects.

Location tags: This will allow the phone to put a GPS tag on the content.

Note:

GPS Signal strength may decrease when the user is in locations wherethe signal can be obstructed. This is usually found between buildings orlow lying areas.You location may appear on the photos when they are uploaded to theinternet. This can be deactivated if desired.

Review pictures: This will enable the device to show photos after taking them.

Quick launch: When this is enabled, the device can launch the camera by pressing thehome key twice quickly.

Voice Control: When this is enabled, the device can take photos or videos using voicecommands. Words such as “Smile”, “Cheese”, “Capture” or “Shoot” to take a photo.To commence a video recording, say “Record Video”.

Volume keys function: The volume key can be used to control the shutter or zoomfunction.

Reset Settings: This option will reset the camera settings.

GalleryThis allows the user to view all the photos and videos that are stored on the device.

View images/videos1. Touch Gallery from the apps screen2. View the saved images/videos. Video files will show a play icon on the

preview screen and to play that video press the icon.3. To hide the menu, press the screen.

Deleting images/videos

When selecting an image or video you can touch Delete at the bottom of the screen.

Multiple image and videos1. From the Gallery main screen, touch and hold an image or video to delete.2. Select all the images or videos you desire to be deleted.3. Press DELETE.

Smart ManagerThis feature will give an overview of the current system status which includes thebattery, storage, RAM and system security. The device can be automatically optimizedwith one touch.

Quick OptimizationTouch Smart Manager from the Apps screen -> CLEAN ALL.

This feature is used to improve the performance of the device by doing the following:

Identifying the apps that use excessive power and clear the memory.Delete unnecessary files and close background apps.Scan the phone for malware and other viruses.

Using the Smart ManagerTo use the various functions, touch the Smart Manager from the apps screen and selectthe feature needed.

BatteryThe user can check the remaining battery power and how much time is left on thedevice with the energy that is available. The battery power can be conserved byactivating various power saving actions and closing applications that are consumingexcessive battery power.

Note:

The usage time left is the amount of time that is remaining before the battery isexhausted. This will vary based on conditions and current settings of the phone.

StorageThis is used to check the current status of the memory capacity. The user can delete

any unused or unnecessary files or uninstall apps that are no longer needed.

RAMThis can be used check the amount of available RAM. From here the user can closethe background apps which will reduce the amount of RAM that is being used up. Thiswill invariably speed up the device.

Device securityThis feature is used to check the phone’s current security status. It can scan the devicefor any malware or prevent any phishing or malicious attacks.

S PlannerThis allows the user to manage their schedule by storing upcoming events and tasks intheir daily planner.

Creating Events1. Touch S. Planner on the Apps Screen2. Touch the plus sign icon or double tap a selected date. If there is an event

saved already, tap the date and tap the plus sign.3. Enter the details of the event.4. Touch SAVE to save the entry.

Creating a task1. Touch S Planner on the apps screen2. Tap icon -> Tasks.3. Enter the details of the task and then touch TODAY or TOMORROW to set

a due date. To place additional details touch <icon>.4. Touch SAVE to save the task.

Synching – Events/Tasks with all your accountsFrom the apps screen, touch Settings-> Accounts then select one of the services. Theuser can then select the Sync Calendar switch to sync the events and tasks with theaccount.

To add other accounts to be synced, open the apps screen and touch S Planner ->MORE -> Manage calendars -> Add account. The user can then select the account tobe synched with and then sign in. When an account has been successfully added then agreen circle will be displayed next to the account name.

S HealthThis application allows the user to monitor and manage their health and fitness.Fitness Goals can be set, progress can be monitored and overall wellness and fitnesscan be tracked.

When this app is started for the first time or ran after a data reset, the on-screeninstructions will guide how to get it configured.

1. Touch the S Health app on the apps screen.2. Follow the on screen instructions to get the app configured.

Using S HealthWhile in the app, the menus contain all the key information necessary to track thehealth and wellness of the user. To commence using, touch the S Health app from theapp screen.

GOALS: This represents the daily fitness goals and the progress can be tracked.

PROGRAMMES: These are customized training programmes that the user has set.

TRACKERS: Monitor the various activities for exercise. You may also check foodintake and body measurements.

Additional trackers, goals or programmes can be added to the screen. This is done bytouching MORE-> Manage Items and then select what is needed under TRACKERS,GOALS or PROGRAMMES.

Note:

To get additional information on the S Health functions, touch MORE-> Settings-> Help.

CAUTIONS:

S Health is only intended for fitness and wellness purposes only andcannot be used to diagnose diseases or other conditions. It also cannotassist in the cure, mitigation, treatment or the prevention of anydisease.

The available functions may differ from country to country and this isdue to law and regulation. You can check the features of you regionbefore use.

The service of S Health can be changed or discontinued without priornotice.

The collection of data is limited to the providing of the service toenhance wellness, data analysis and provide statistics. Personalinformation will be stored to align with data but can be deleted at anytime. Once there is a reset the information will be removed. You alsohave the option to remove the data from storage devices or socialnetworks.

Data may also be shared and synchronized with additional Samsungservices or third parties apps that you choose. It can also be sharedwith other connected devices. Access to your data on S Health can onlybe allowed when enabled by the user.

The user will assume full responsibility for the sharing of data.Therefore if any inappropriate action is taken, this is the responsibilityof the user. Therefore, caution must be taken when sharing personaldata on social networks.

If the device is connected to other devices, verify that it is properlyconnected to ensure proper operation. If you are using wirelessconnections such as Bluetooth or ANT+ the transmission may beinterrupted by interference by other devices. Avoid using the devicenear other devices that transmit signals.

Please read all terms and conditions and the privacy policy beforeusing the S Health app to carefully understand the operation.

S VoiceThis allows the phone to perform various tasks by speaking to the device.

Wake up CommandThe S Voice feature can be launched by using a wake up command.

When the S Voice feature is launched for the first time, touch START and set yourdesired wake up command and the language to use with the app.

The wake up command can be changed by opening the app screen and touching SVoice. Touch the settings wheel-> Voice wake up-> Delete wake up command to resetthe current setting. Touch the switch then touch Set Wake up Command -> START.Then on-screen instructions will help you to configure the settings.

The device can then be set to launch S Voice by using the wake up command while thephone is locked, this is done by touching the setting wheel then touching Wake up insecured lock switch to activate the feature.

Using the S Voice application1. Say the wake up command as you have set in the phone. As an alternative,

the S Voice application can be touched from the App Screen. When the appis launched, the device will begin the voice recognition.

Note:

This application may not be available in all regions or for all serviceproviders.

1. The user can now say a voice command to the phone. If the phonerecognizes the command it will go ahead and perform the action. To repeata command or say a different one, touch the microphone icon.

Note:

The application will close automatically after a specified period of no use.

Tips for good voice recognition:

The device may not recognize your speech or it may do unwanted commandsdepending on your surroundings and the way you speak.

Setting the LanguageFrom the apps screen touch S Voice -> Settings Wheel -> Language then choose thedesired language.

This language is restricted to S Voice only and is not the language that displayed onthe device.

MusicMusic can be enjoyed on the device and it can be sorted by category and it can havecustomized playback settings.

To access, press the Music icon from the Apps screen. Then touch the down arrowand select a category that is desired, then choose a song to play.

The album image can be tapped at the bottom of the screen to open the music player.

VideoVideos can be enjoyed on the device and be given customized playback settings.

To access, touch the Video icon from the apps screen.

Then select a video to play.

The user can drag their finger up or down on the left side of the playback screen toadjust the brightness of the playback. The similar operation can be done on the rightside of the playback screen and this action will adjust the volume. Swiping right orleft on the screen will rewind or fast forward the playback.

Voice RecorderThe phone can be adjusted to use different recording modes for different situations.The device can also be used to convert voices to text and distinguish between soundsources..

Recording voice memos1. From the apps screen, touch tools -> Voice Recorder.2. Tap the record button to commence recording. Speak directly into the

microphone. Pause can be tapped to pause the recording. A bookmark can be inserted in a voice memo by touching Bookmark.

3. Tap the record icon again to stop the recording.

Changing the recordingTouch the bottom arrow to select a different mode from the list.

The available modes are:Standard: This is the basic recording mode. The voice memos that are recorded in

this mode will appear with the microphone icon beside them.

Interview: In this mode, the microphone will become sensitive to sounds in twodifferent directions. That is, the top and bottom of the phone will pick up a similaramount of sound. The memos that are recorded in this mode will have an <icon>beside them.

Voice Memo: The device will record the user’s voice and convert it to on screen textsimultaneously. The best recommendation is to keep the device close to the mouth andto speak clearly in a quiet place. The voice memos that are done in this mode willappear with the <icon> next to them.

Playing Voice Memos

When the interview mode is used, the user can mute or unmute some of the soundsources in the recording.

1. From the apps screen, touch Tools -> Voice Recorder.2. Touch Recordings and select a voice memo that has been recorded in an

interview mode.3. To mute some of the sound sources, touch the <icon> for the direction that

the sound should be muted. The icon will change to <icon> and the soundwill be cancelled.

My FilesThis feature allows the user to access and manage the various files that are stored onthe phone or other locations. One of the locations is in cloud storage.

From the apps screen touch Tools -> My Files.

Category: The files can be viewed by category.

Local Storage: The files that are stored on the device.

Cloud Storage: The files that are stored in the cloud storage service.

STORAGE USAGE: This is used to view your device’s memory information.

To conduct a search for a file or folder, touch SEARCH.

MemoMemos can be created and organized by category.

From the apps screen touch Tools -> Memo

Creating a MemoTap the <icon> on the memos list to create a new memo. While constructing trhememo, the following options can be used:

Category: Creating or setting a category.

Image: Insert an image.

Voice: Insert a voice recording.

Tasks: This is used to add a tick box at the beginning of each row to create a list oftasks.

Touch SAVE to save the memo.

To edit the memo. Touch the content of the memo.

Searching for a memo

Touch SEARCH on the memos lists and enter a keyboard to search for a memo thatwill contain that keyword.

ClockThe clock can be used to set alarms, the current time in various cities around the wordor set a time duration.

Setting an alarmFrom the apps screen, touch Clock -> Alarm.

Set the alarm time and touch SAVE.

Touch KEYPAD to open the keypad and enter the alarm time.

Touch OPTIONS to be able to set an alarm with various alarm options. Once theyhave been adjusted, touch SAVE.

To activate or deactivate the alarms, touch the clock icon next to the alarm in thealarms list.

Stopping alarms

Touch DISMISS to stop an alarm that is active. If snooze was engaged before thentouch SNOOZE once again to repeat the alarm after a specified amount of time.

Deleting alarmsTo delete an alarm tap X on the alarm in the current list of alarms.

World ClockFrom the apps screen, touch Clock -> World Clock.

Creating clocksTouch + to enter a city name from anywhere around the world.

Deleting clocksTouch X on a clock.

Stopwatch1. From the apps screen, touch Clock -> Stopwatch.2. Touching START will commence timing of an event.3. If the event involves laps, then for each lap time touch LAP.4. Touch STOP to end the timing. To restart the timing touch RESUME. To

clear the times touch RESET.

Timer1. From the apps screen, touch Clock -> Timer.2. Once the duration has been set, touch START. To be able to input a time,

touch KEYPAD.3. Touch DISMISS when the timer goes off.

CalculatorThis feature allows the user to be able to perform simple or complex calculations.

To access the calculator, touch Calculator from the apps screen.

To access the scientific calculator, rotate the device to landscape orientation. Takenote that if Screen Rotation is not activated you must go to the notification panel andenable it.

To see the calculation history the user can touch HISTORY. To close this displaypanel, touch KEYPAD.

The history can be cleared if the user touches HISTORY -> CLEAR HISTORY.

AppsThe phone comes with many applications that can perform various tasks that canhandle the user’s needs. We discuss some of the applications below:

Play NewsstandThis application allows the user to access news and magazines that interest them in acentral location.

1. To access Newsstand, Press the Google Folder icon and then touch thePlay Newsstand icon.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure the app to your readingtastes.

Read News and Magazines OfflineWith this application, the user is allowed to read and download news and magazinesto their devices even when there is no internet connection.

Note:

Always ensure that there is an active internet connection before downloadingNewsstand items to your device. It may take some time to complete the downloadto your device.

To save a Newsstand item to your device

1. Open the Play Newsstand app.2. Touch the menu icon.3. Below a chosen news source or magazine, touch the menu icon then touch

Download.4. The user can choose the view you want to download.

Reading OfflineWhile on the Play Newsstand app, a blue check icon will indicate to the user that thecontent has been downloaded to the device.

If you want to remove an item from the device touch the Menu icon and touch Removedownload

Note:

Offline reading is only available with the Google Play Newsstandapplication.Additional features such as Audio, Video and Images will not beavailable while offline.

Magazine DisplaysWhen the magazine is open on the Play Newsstand Application, immediately you willbe taken to the cover page or the last page you were reading. The view of themagazines can be adjusted by moving the position of your device, zooming or selectedtext mode when it is available.

Display modesPages Mode

Many of the magazines that open on the device will do so in the lite view. This willcomprise of the article titles and the name of the author. The lite view used less datawhen it is downloaded to your device.

The view can be changed by touching the top of the screen. Once the menu is availablemove the view switch and adjust the view you need.

Some magazines are available in text mode in which you will see the text of thearticles only. To see this mode, select View text when it is available.

Interactive MagazinesIn some of the magazines, you will see an interactive badge icon. This means that themagazine is specially formatted to contain features such scrolling text boxes, videos,slideshows and expandable photos. These can be activated when touching the page,the interactive badge icon or swiping across the page.

Note:

The interactive magazines are designed for specific screen sizes so the userwill not be able to zoom in on the content.An internet connection is required to enjoy the special features of themagazine.Some of the magazines will be restricted to horizontal or vertical reading.

Play GamesThe Google Play Games app allows the user to discover new games and be able toengage these games on their Android device. While playing their favorite games theycan earn achievements. , compete on leader boards or simply play with othersworldwide.

Find the recent games playedTouch the Menu icon –> My Games then the options are:

All my games: This will show to the user all the games they have installed that areassociated with the current Google Account.

Recent Games: This will show all the recent games that have been played in the Apps.

Installed: This will display all the current games that are installed on the device.

Note:

Some games that are listed on the All my games section may not be currentlyinstalled on the device.

See the latest notificationsTo be able to see the latest game accolades, request or multiplayer invitation the usershould:

1. Open the Play Games App2. Touch the Menu icon -> Inbox. The user can then choose to acknowledge

the invites as necessary

View Multiplayer games

To view the current and past multiplayer games the user should:

1. Open the Play Games app.2. Touch the Menu icon -> Matches.

Find your friendsThe user is able to see what their friends have recently played and they can find usersto add to their circles.

1. Open the Play Games app.2. Touch the Menu icon -> Players.

Additional options that are available are:

Friends are playing: This will show the friends from Google+ circles that have playedgames on Play Games.

You may know: This will list some suggestions of persons you may know on Google.

Find features and popular gamesThis is used to find featured and popular games the use the Play Game feature.

1. Open the Play Games app.2. Touch the Menu icon -> Explore.3. The user can then search or select a game that they want to learn more

about. They can also see if their friends have played that game and be ableto download it on Google Play.

How to change the profile visibility and notification settings

To be able to adjust the Game profile settings, the notifications received and to viewthe muted games, the user should:

1. Open the Play Games app.2. Touch the Menu icon -> Settings.

Game ProfileThe Game Profile is a combination of all the experience points (XP) that you have

earned. If the profile is a private one, then you will appear as a Level 1 user toeveryone. You can decide if you want your profile to be public or private and this willinclude your title, experience points per game genre and level.

To be able to adjust the Game Profile the user should:

1. Go to Settings -> Game Profile.2. Play now -> Your Game Profile.

If the Game profile box is closed, the visibility settings can be updated from theSetting Menu.

Google DriveGoogle Drive is one of the safest place a user can save their data. Users are enabledto upload their photos, videos, documents and other files that are important to you. Theinitial space given to the user is 15GB that they can use to store all their data.

Google Drive represents all your data you have backed up on the go. You canorganize, edit all from the Google Drive app.

Creating a folder in the Drive App1. Open the Google Drive Application.2. Touch the + (red) button that is located at the bottom right of the screen.3. Select Folder from the menu.4. Enter the name of the folder when prompted to do so.5. Touch OK.

Notes:

Any new folders that are created in the Drive App will also beavailable in the Google Drive on the web.Folders can be created in any section of the application and they willshow in the My Drive sectionFolders that are created in the Drive app will not be visible in the Docs,Sheets or Slides apps.

Managing foldersIn the drive list, the grey “i” icon can be touched to access the various options that canbe performed. They are:

Sharing the folder

Renaming the folderRemoving the folder from the applicationSending a link to the folderMoving the folder.

Notes:

Folders can be made accessed while offline. However, the items in the folders canbe marked individually to be available offline.

Move files into folders

While in the Drive app, files can be moved into folders easily.

1. Touch the file that you would like to add to the folder.2. Drag box that appears on the top of the folder you want to add the file to.

The file will be automatically added to that folder.

Viewing different file typesThe Google Drive app allows the user to view different file types that they have savedto the drive. This is also dependent on the ability of the device itself to open the filetypes. For the files that are not able to be opened by default, a third party app can beselected to open the file.

If the user chooses a file that is unsupported, the Drive app will ask the user to choosean app that will complete the action.

Note:

Updates that are made via third party applications are not saved backed toGoogle Drive.

Uploading photos and videos

The Google Drive app will allow the user to upload files from their Android deviceto the drive. The files can be accessed from any other device that has access to thedrive. To be able to do this, touch the + (red) button -> Upload to upload the files tothe drive.

Upload Individual images and music tracksIf the user selects Document from photo, they will be able to take the picture using thecamera. If Upload is chosen then a music track or existing image from the phoneGallery.

Once the file has been selected, the user can give the upload a name and touch OK tosave it in the drive. For pictures, the user can choose whether they will like to create aGoogle document or upload the image directly to the Drive List.

Upload other file typesAny other file that you choose can be uploaded to the Google Drive. This is done bynavigating to the app containing the file to be upload and touch Share -> Drive.

YouTubeThe application allows the user to access the official YouTube site on the devicethrough the application. The user can search for videos on various topics that spangaming, entertainment, news and much more. The application allows the user toperform a search for videos or subscribe to channels.

Playing a video1. Click the magnifying glass icon to be able to search for a video.2. Type in the video name you would like to search for.3. Touch the video on the list you desire to see.4. The video will play.

Subscribing to a channel1. Search for a video in a channel that you desire to subscribe to.2. When the video is loaded touch the Subscribe button under the video.3. You will be subscribed to the channel.

PhotosThe Photos app can be used tom manage the photos, albums, videos right on theAndroid device. It is important to note that before making changes, ensure that you arelogged into the right Google+ account.

1. Open the Photos application2. The main menu can be opened by touching the Photos icon on the top left of

the screen.3. To switch to another Google+ profile, touch the down arrow to the right of

the account name and you will be able to select the name that you desire.

Viewing PhotosThe user has the option to view all the photos that are stored on the device and all the

photos that has been stored to the associated Google+ account

HangoutsThe Hangout app is used to call phones, send messages and do video calls on multipledevices to multiple people. Things such as video and current locations can be sharedwith others

SynchingThe conversations that are logged in hangouts can be synched across devices. Thismeans that you can start a conversation on one device and continue it on the next, evenon your computer.

Wi-Fi CallingThe user can use Wi-Fi or a mobile data connection to place phone calls usingHangouts. The Hangouts caller can be downloaded to be able to perform calls usingthe Hangouts Android app. The app allows the user to be receive calls if they have aGoogle Voice number.

Voice SearchThe user can use their voice to be able to do many things on their phone such assearching, getting direction or creating reminders. This is as easy as saying “OkGoogle……” and specifying what you need to find.

Turning on voice search1. Open the Google App.2. In the top left corner of the page touch the menu icon -> Settings -> Voice -

> “Ok Google” Detection.3. From this menu, you can choose where you want to the phone to listen

when you say “Ok Google”.

Starting a voice search1. Open the Google App.2. Say “Ok Google” or touch the microphone icon.

Google SettingsThere are various settings that can be adjusted for the Google search app whichincludes location and search history.

To change the settings1. Open the Google app on the device.2. Touch Menu -> Search Settings.3. Touch the settings you want to change.

Airplane ModeFlight mode when enabled will disable all the wireless functionality on the device.When it is active, only the non-network services can be used. To enable this, from thesettings screen touch Flight Mode.

Mobile Hotspot and TetheringThe phone can be used as a mobile hotspot which shares the device’s mobile dataconnection with other devices when other network connections are not available. Toenable this, from the settings screen touch Mobile Hotspot and tethering.

Note:

On some networks (Depending on your data plan or service provider) you mayincur additional charges for this feature)

Mobile Hotspot: This is used to share the phone’s mobile data connection withcomputers or other devices.

Bluetooth Tethering: This is used to share the phone’s mobile data connection withcomputers or other devices via Bluetooth technology.

USB tethering: This is used to share the phone’s mobile data connection with acomputer via a USB connection. When there is a connection to a computer, the devicewill be used as a wireless modem for the computer.

Using the hotspotUsing the phone as a mobile hotspot is simply sharing the phone’s mobile dataconnection with other devices.

1. From the settings screen, touch Mobile Hotspot and tethering -> MobileHotspot.

2. Touch the switch to activate it.

The <icon> will appear on the status bar. The other devices can do a search forWi-Fi connection and find your device in the Wi-Fi networks list.

To set a password for the mobile hotspot touch MORE -> Configure MobileHotspot and select the level of security desired. Then enter a password andtouch SAVE.

1. On the other device, search and select the configured device from the list.2. Once connected, the mobile data connection can now be used to access the

internet as needed.

Data usageThe phone can keep a track on the usage of data and set customized limits.

From the Settings screen, touch Data Usage.

Mobile Data: This is used to set the device to use data connection on any mobilenetwork that is connected.

Set Mobile Data Limit: A limit can be set for the mobile data usage on the phone. Tochange the monthly reset date for the monitoring period touch the down arrow ->Change cycle.

Limiting the data use

1. From the settings screen, touch Data usage and then touch the Set mobiledata limit switch to activate it.

2. Drag the limit adjustment bar up or down to set the limit on the graph.3. The warning adjustment bar can be used to set a data usage alert level. The

device will alert you when the warning level is reached.

Mobile networksThis area is used to configure the mobile network settings of the phone.

From the settings screen, touch Mobile Networks.

Data Roaming: Set the device to use data connections when the phone is roaming.

Access Point Names: This is used to set up access point names (APNs).

Network mode: This is used to select a network type.

Network Operators: This is used to search for available networks and manuallyregister a network.

NFC and PaymentsThe device can read near field communication (NFC) tags that will containinformation about products. This feature can also be used to make payments and

conduct purchases for additional services or event once the appropriate apps havebeen installed.

Note:

The device has a built in NFC antenna, therefore it should be handled with careso the internal antenna is not damaged.

Using NFCThe feature allows users to send pictures or contacts to other devices and read varioustypes of information from the NFC tags. If the user inserts a SIM/USIM that has apayment feature, the device can be used to conduct transactions.

1. From the settings screen, touch NFC and payment -> NFC and then touchthe switch to activate it.

2. Place the phone close to the NFC tag with the back of the device facing theNFC tag. The information from the tag will appear on the screen.

Note:

The screen of the device must be unlocked as it will not be able to read theNFC tags or receive data.

Making payments using the NFC featureTo use the NFC feature to make payments, the user must be registered for themobile payment service. To register for this service, you must contact yourservice provider.

1. From the settings screen touch NFC and payment -> NFC and then touch theswitch to activate it.

2. Place the NFC antenna area that is located on the back of the device to theNFC card reader.

The user can set the default payment app by opening the settings screen andtouching NFC and payment -> Tap & Pay and then select the chosen app.

Note:

The payment services list may not include all available payment apps.

Sending dataThis feature allows the exchange of data when the NFC area of your devicetouches the NFC area of another device.

1. From the settings screen touch NFC and payment -> NFC and then touch theswitch to activate it.

2. Touch Android Beam and touch the switch to activate it.3. Select the item and touch the other device’s NFC antenna to your device’s

NFC antenna.4. When the words Touch to Beam appears on the screen touch the device’s

screen to send the chosen item.

Note:

If both devices are trying to send to each other simultaneously then an error mayoccur.

Additional Connection settingsOptions

The options can be configured to customize the various settings to control many of theother features. From the settings screen, touch More Connection settings.

Printing: if a printer plug-in is installed then in this menu the settings can beconfigured. The user can search for available printers or have the option of adding onemanually to print files.

MirrorLink: This feature can be used to control the device’s MirrorLink apps on thevehicle’s head unit monitor.

Download Booster: This feature can enable the device to handle larger files moreefficiently. The user can set the device to download files larger than 30MB to bedownloaded via Wi-Fi and mobile networks simultaneously.

VPN: This is used to setup and connect virtual private networks. (VPN’s)

Default messaging app: This is used to select the default app to be used for messaging.

PrintingAt this point the user can configure settings for the printer plug-in if they are installedon the device.

1. From the settings screen, touch More Connection Settings -> Printing ->Download Plug In.

2. Search for a printer plug in the Play Store.3. Once the appropriate plug-in is found, install it.4. Select the printer plug-in and touch the switch to activate it. The device

will search for any printers that area connected to the same Wi-Fi as yourdevice.

To add a printer manually touch MORE -> Add printer -> ADD PRINTER.

To change the print settings touch MORE -> Printing Settings.

Printing ContentWhile the content is being viewed (images or documents) touch Share -> Print ->Down Arrow -> All printers and then select a printer.

MirrorLink

The device can be connected to a vehicle to control the MirrorLink app on the vehiclehead unit monitor. From the settings screen touch More Connection Settings ->MirrorLink.

Note:

Your device is compatible with vehicles that support MirrorLink 1.1 or higher.

How to connect the device to MirrorLinkWhen this feature is being used for the first time, connect the device to a Wi-Fi ormobile network.

1. The first thing to do is to pair the device with the vehicle via Bluetooth.2. Connect your device to the vehicle using a USB cable. When a connection

has been established the MirrorLink app can be access on the head unitmonitor.

To end the MirrorLink connection, simply unplug the USB cable from the device andthe vehicle.

Download Booster

The device can be set to handle files that are larger than 30MB to be downloadedfaster. This is done by doing it via Wi-Fi and mobile networks simultaneously. If thereis a stronger Wi-Fi signal then this will provide a faster download speed.

From the settings screen, touch More connection settings -> Download booster.

Note:

It is important to note that this feature may be not be supported bysome devices.In some cases additional charges may be incurred by downloading filesvia the mobile network.When downloading large files, the device may get hot. If the deviceexceeds a certain pre-set temperature, the feature will automaticallyturn off.If the network becomes unstable, the speed and performance of thisfeature may be compromised.If the Wi-Fi connection and the mobile network has different dataspeeds, the device may choose to use the fastest connection.

This feature utilizes Hypertext Transmission Protocol (HTTP) 1.1 andHypertext Transmission Protocol Secure (HTTPS). The feature cannotbe used with other protocols such as FTP.

Sounds and NotificationsThe user has the ability to change the various sounds for notifications on the device.

From the settings screen, touch Sounds and Notifications.

Sound mode: This is used to adjust the device to use sound mode or silent mode.

Volume: This is used to adjust the volume for ringtones, music, videos, system soundsand notifications.

Ringtones and Sounds: This is used to configure the ringtone and system soundsettings.

Vibrations: This is used to adjust the vibration settings.

Sound quality and effects: This is used to configure the additional sound settings.

Do not disturb: This is used to configure the settings for managing interruptions.

Notifications on lock screen: This is used to set whether the user wants to see thecontent of notifications while the screen is locked.

App notifications: This is used to adjust the notification settings for each app.

LED indicator: This is used to set the device to turn on a notification light when thereis a missed call, messages or notification.

DisplayThis feature is used to adjust the display settings.

From the settings screen, touch Display.

Brightness: This is used to adjust the brightness of the screen.

Font: This is used to adjust the font size and type.

Screen Timeout: This is used to set the length of time the device should wait before itturns of the backlight of the display.

Smart Stay: This is used to configure the device to keep the backlight on while you arelooking at the display.

Screen Mode: This mode is used to adjust the screen mode to the current display colorand contrast.

Daydream: The device can be set to lunch a screen saver when the device is chargingor connected to a desktop docking station.

Motions and GesturesThis feature can be used to activate the motion recognition feature and change thesettings that control motion recognition on the device.

From the settings screen touch Motions and Gestures.

Note:

If there is excessive shaking on the phone then it may result in improper inputs.The motions should be controlled.

Direct call: The device can be set to make a call when the phone is picked up or heldnear the user’s ear while viewing the call, messages or the contact details.

Smart Alert: The device can be set to notify the user if you have missed a call ormessages once you pick up the device.

Note:

This feature may not work if the screen of the device is turned on or the device isnot on a flat surface.

Mute: The device can be set to mute calls that come in or any alarms by using palmmotions or facing the device’s screen upwards.

Palm Swipe to capture: This is used to set the device to capture screenshots when theuser’s hand is swiped left or right across the screen. The images can be viewed in theGallery area.

Note:

It is important to note that while using some features and apps you may not beable to use the screenshot features.

ApplicationsThis allows the user to be able to manage the apps on the phone and adjust theirsettings.

From the settings screen, touch Applications.

Applications Manager: This is used to view and manage apps on the device.

Default applications: This is used to select a default setting for the use of apps.

Application settings: The user can customize the settings for each application.

WallpaperThe wallpaper settings can be adjusted for the home screen and the locked screen.From the settings screen, touch Wallpaper.

ThemesThe user can apply various themes to the device to change the look and feel of theenvironment of the Home Screen, locked screen and icons.

From the Settings screen, touch Themes.

To access more themes, touch STORE.

Lock Screen and SecurityOptions

The settings for protecting the device, the SIM and the USIM card.

From the settings screen, touch Lock Screen and Security.

Note:

The options that may be available may vary depending on the screen lock methodselected.

Screen lock type: This is used to change the screen lock method.

Show information: This is used to change the settings for the items that are displayedwhen the screen is locked.

Unlock Effect: This is used to select the effect that the user will see when you unlockthe screen.

Fingerprint: This is used to register your fingerprint to the device for securitypurposes or it can be used to sign in to the Samsung account.

Device Security: This can be used to scan the device and remove any malware that isfound on the phone. There is a real time scanning feature that can be used to blockphishing attacks and malicious websites.

Find my mobile: This can be used to activate the Find my Mobile feature. This can beused to locate the device if it is lost or stolen. This can also be initiated via the Findmy Mobile website findmymobile.samsung.com to track and control the device.

Unknown Sources: This can be used to set the device to allow the installations ofapplications from unknown sources.

Other security settings: This is used to configure additional security settings.

Fingerprint RecognitionFor the fingerprint recognition feature to properly function, the fingerprints needs to beregistered and stored in the device. When it is registered, the device can be used withfingerprints to:

Lock the screenSign-in via the websiteVerify the Samsung AccountUse PayPal for payments

Note:

This service may not be available depending on the region or service provider.

For better fingerprint recognitionWhen scanning the fingerprints on the device, the user must be aware of certainconditions that may affect the overall performance.

The Home Key is used to recognise the fingerprints using a sensor. Thehome key should not be scratched or damaged by metal objects such ascoins, keys or necklaces.The screen protector that is supplied with the device may at times cause thefingerprint recognition sensor to malfunction. When the sensor is removedit will improve the fingerprint sensitivity.At all times ensure that the fingerprint recognition area is kept clean anddry for optimal performance.The device may have an issue in recognizing fingerprints that havewrinkles or scars.The device may have an issue in recognizing fingerprints that are small andhave thin fingers.The complete finger must be used to cover the home key to ensure it detectsit properly. If a fingertip or bent finger is used it may not be recognized

properly.To improve the recognition performance, it is advised to register thefingerprints that are mostly used to perform tasks on a device.In some dry environments, static electricity can build up in the device. Theuser should try to avoid using the feature in a dry environment or beforeusing this feature, the static electricity can be discharged by touching ametal object.

Registering Fingerprints1. From the settings screen, touch Lock Screen and Security -> Fingerprint ->

Add Fingerprint.2. Place the finger on the Home Key.3. The finger should be lifted when the device starts to vibrate and then place

the finger once again on the Home Key. This action should be repeateduntil the fingerprint is registered.

4. A screen will appear to request the user to register a backup password.Enter the password and then touch CONTINUE.

5. The backup password should then be re-entered again to verify it and thentouch OK. The backup password can be used instead of scanning thefingerprints.]

6. The fingerprint lock pop-up window will appear, you may then touch OK.The fingerprints can unlock the screen.

Deleting Fingerprints

1. From the settings screen, touch Lock screen and security -> Fingerprint.2. The fingerprint can be scanned or touch BACKUP PASSWORD and enter

the backup password.3. Touch EDIT.4. Tick the fingerprints you desire to delete and touch REMOVE.

Changing the backup passwordThe backup password can be changed when the user desires to do so.

1. From the settings screen, touch Lock screen and security -> Fingerprint.2. The fingerprint can be scanned or touch BACKUP PASSWORD and enter

the backup password.3. Touch Change backup password.

4. Enter the new password and touch CONTINUE.5. Enter the password once again and touch OK.

Verify the Samsung account passwordThe fingerprint recognition can be used to verify your Samsung account password. Thefingerprint can be used interchangeably with entering the password, for example, inevents such making purchases from Galaxy Apps.

1. From the settings screen, touch Lock screen and security -> Fingerprint.2. Scan the registered fingerprint or touch BACKUP PASSWORD and enter

the backup password.3. Touch the Verify Samsung Account switch to activate it.4. The user can now sign in to their Samsung account.

Use your fingers to sign into accountsFingerprints can be used to sign in to webpages that support the password savingfunction.

1. From the settings screen, touch Lock Screen and security -> Fingerprint.2. Scan a registered fingerprint or touch BACKUP PASSWORD and enter the

backup password.3. Touch the Web-sign in switch to activate.4. Navigate to the website that you need to sign in to.5. Once the username and password have been entered, touch the webpage

sign in button.6. Tick the option to Sign in using your fingerprints and touch REMEMBER.

The fingerprints can be used to verify the account and password to sign in to thewebpage.

Using the Fingerprints to make PayPal purchases.Purchases can be made scanning the fingerprints.

Note:

The feature may not be available everywhere, it is dependent on the regionand service provider.

1. From the settings screen, touch Lock screen and security -> Fingerprint.2. Scan the registered fingerprint or touch BACKUP PASSWORD and enter

the password.3. Touch Pay with PayPal.4. Tick FIDO Ready support and PayPal and then touch INSTALL.5. When the installation has been completed, touch LINK PayPal ACCOUNT.6. The on-screen instructions will show how to sign in to PayPal account and

register the fingerprint.

Privacy and SafetyOptions

These settings can be adjusted to maintain the privacy and safety,

From the settings screen touch Privacy and Safety.

Location: This is used to change the settings for location informationpermissions.Private Mode: This is used to activate private mode which will preventothers from accessing your data.Report Diagnostic info: This is used to set the device to automaticallytransmit the diagnostic information of the device ad usage information toSamsung.Send SOS messages: The device can be sent to send help messages whenthe Power key is pressed three times. Sound recordings can be sent alongwith the messages to the recipients.

Private ModeThe feature is used to hide the personal data of the device to prevent unauthorizedpersons from accessing it.

While in private mode, you can hide items that are located in the Gallery, Video,Music, Voice Recorder, Mt Files and Internet.

Activating private mode1. From the settings screen touch Privacy and Safety -> Private mode and then

touch the switch to activate it.

When private mode is being accessed for the first time, follow the on-screeninstructions to setup a private mode access code.

1. The on-screen instructions can be followed to enter the private modeaccess code. When the private mode is activate, an <icon> will bedisplayed on the status bar.

Note:

Hidden items can be viewed and accessed only when private mode is activated.To hide the items that are stored in the private folder, deactivate the privatemode.

Hiding Content1. From the apps screen, launch an app to hide the items.2. Select an item and touch MORE -> Move to Private.

If the private mode is not activated, the on-screen instructions can be used toenter the pre-set private mode access code.

The selected items will then be moved to the private folder.

Viewing hidden content

1. From settings screen, touch Privacy and safety -> Private mode and thentouch the switch to activate it.

1. The pre-set private mode access code can be set by following the on-screen instructions.

1. From the apps screen, touch Tools -> My Files -> Private.

The items that were moved to the private folder will appear on the screen.Bookmarks can be viewed with the Internet app.

Unhiding content

1. While in the private folder, touch and hold an item and then tick the itemsto unhide.

2. Touch MORE -> Remove from Private.3. Select the folder to move the items to and then touch MOVE HERE. The

items will be moved to the selected folder.

Automatically deactivating private modeThe device can be set to automatically deactivate private mode when the screen turnsoff.

1. From the settings screen, touch Private and safety -> Private mode and thentap the switch to activate it.

1. The on screen instructions can be followed to enter the present privatemode access code.

1. Touch the Auto disable switch to activate it.

Note:

When this feature is enabled the device will not complete transfers of filesto the private folder if the screen turns off during the transfer operation.

Sending an SOS MessageWhen the user is in an emergency situation, the power key can be pressed threetimes. The device will send an emergency message to your primary contacts.The messages will include your location information.

1. From the settings screen, touch Privacy and safety -> Send SOS Messages

and then tap the switch to activate it.

1. The on-screen instructions can be followed to add the primary contacts ifthis has not already been done.

Help messages can be sent with audio recordings or photos. To do this, touchAttach audio recording to Attach pictures switch to activate it.

Note:

The attach pictures option may not always be available. This will bedependent on the region and the service provider.

Adding primary contactsFrom the settings screen, touch Privacy and safety -> Send SOS messages ->Send messages to -> ADD. Touch Create contact to be able to enter contactinformation or touch Select from contacts to add an existing contact as a primarycontact.

Easy ModeThis mode provides an easier user experience by using a simpler layout withbigger icons on the Home screen.

Switching to easy mode

1. From the settings screen, touch Easy mode -> Easy mode.2. Select the applications under the Easy applications to apply a simpler

layout.3. Touch DONE.

Returning to standard modeTo go back to standard mode, swipe the screen to the left while on the Home screenand then touch Settings-> Easy Mode -> Standard Mode -> DONE.

Managing ShortcutsTo add a shortcut to an application to the Home Screen, swipe the screen to the left,tap the plus sign 0icon and then select an app.

To add a shortcut to a contact on the Home screen, swipe the screen to the right andtap <icon>.

To delete the shortcut from the Home Screen, touch EDIT and select an app or contactwith the <icon>

AccessibilityThis feature is used to configure the various settings that will improve theaccessibility to the phone. To access this feature, from the settings screen touchAccessibility.

AccountsThe device allows the user to add their Samsung and Google accounts, or any otheraccounts they may have to be synced.

To add an accountMany of the applications that are used with the device required a registered account tobe fully functional. This is recommended to have the best experience with the device.

1. From the settings screen, touch Accounts -> Add account.2. Select the desired service.3. The on-screen instructions will guide the user to complete the setup.

The account can be synched by choosing the accounts to sync and the items to besynched.

Registering Samsung AccountsA Samsung account is needed when using Samsung apps. The feature allows the userto back or restore the data that is saved to their device to their Samsung account. The

Samsung account should be registered to the device to be able to conveniently useSamsung services.

1. From the settings screen, touch Accounts -> Add accounts.2. Touch Samsung account.3. The on-screen instructions can be followed to complete the account setup.

Once the Samsung account has been registered, the apps that require the servicecan be used conveniently without a sign in procedure required.

Removing accountsFrom the settings screen, touch Accounts then select an account name, select theaccount to be removed and then touch MORE -> Remove account.

Backup and ResetThis is used to change and manage the overall settings of the device.

From the settings screen touch Backup and Reset

Back up my data: This feature is used to back up the personal information andapplication data to the Samsung server. It also allows the user to set the deviceto automatically backup the data.

Restore: This feature is used to restore a previous back up of the personalinformation and application data from the Samsung account.

Backup Account: This is used to setup the user’s Google backup account.

Backup my data: The device can be setup to automatically backup settings andapplication settings to the Google server.

Automatic Restore: The device can be set to automatically restore the previoussettings and application data from the Google server once an App is reinstalled.

Factory Data Reset: This is used to reset the device to the original factorysettings and delete all data.

Language and InputThis is used to change settings for the input of text. Some of the options may notbe available based on the current language settings.

From the settings screen, touch Language and input

Language: A display language can be selected for the various menus and apps.

Default Keyboard: A default keyboard can be selected to input text.

Samsung Keyboard: The settings of the Samsung Keyboard can be adjusted tosuit the user’s needs.

Google Voice Typing: The settings of the Voice input can be adjusted to suit theuser’s needs.

Voice Input: This is used to choose a default voice input service. Settings can beadjusted for each individual services.

Text-to-Speech options: This is used to adjust the text-to-speech settings.

Pointer Speed: This is used to adjust the speed of the pointer for the mouse ortrackpad that is connected to the device.

CursorFrom the assistive menu, tap Cursor. The user can then control the screen using small

finger movements on the touch area. The finger can be dragged on the touch area tomove the cursor. The screen can also be tapped to select items under the cursor.

The following options are available:

<icon>: This is used to select an item on the screen or to scroll left or right.

<icon>: This is used to scroll up or down on the screen.

<icon>: This is used to magnify the area where the cursor is located.

<icon>: The touch area can be moved to another location if desired.

<icon>: This is used to close the touch area.

To adjust the cursor settings, the app screen can be opened, touch Settings ->Accessibility -> Dexterity and Interaction -> Assistant Menu. The settings can then becustomized in Touchpad and cursor settings.

Using the enhanced assistive menusThe device can be configured to display an enhanced assistive menu for some of theselected applications.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Dexterity and Interaction ->Assistant Menu -> Assistant Plus. The switch can then be touched to activate it andthen select the apps.

Turning on the screen with the air gesture featureThe air gesture feature can be used to turn on the screen by moving your hand abovethe sensor at the top of the device. The screen can be turned on without pressing anykeys. When this feature is used, place the device on a flat service with the screenfacing upwards. The device should be secured so it does not move.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Dexterity and interaction ->Gesture Wake up and then touch the switch to activate it.

Settings Tap and hold delay options

The recognition time can be set for touching/tapping or holding the screen.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Dexterity and interaction ->Tap and hold delay and then select an option.

Interaction control

The activation control mode is used to restrict the devices reaction to inputs whenusing applications.

1. From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Dexterity andInteraction -> Interaction Control.

2. Tap the switch to activate it.3. The Home key and the Volume key can be pressed down simultaneously

while an app is being used.4. The size of the frame can be adjusted or a line can be drawn around the

area that needs to be restricted.5. Touch DONE.

The device will illustrate the restricted area. Once set, this area will not betouch and the device hard key will be disabled.

To deactivate the interaction control mode, press and hold the Home key and theVolume key simultaneously.

Direction LockThis feature is used to create a directional combination to unlock the screen.

1. From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Direction Lockand touch the switch to activate it.

2. Drag your finger in the preferred combination of directions more than fourtimes and then touch CONTINUE.

3. Repeat the combination to verify it and then touch CONFIRM.4. A backup PIN can be used to unlock the screen in the event the combination

has been forgotten.

Notification reminderThe device can be set to notify the user that they have not checked their notifications ata particular interval.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Notifications Reminder andthen touch the switch to activate it.

The device can be set to vibrate when the user has unchecked notifications, this isdone by touching the Vibrate switch to activate it.

There is an option to set the device to turn on the notification light when there areunchecked notifications while the screen is off. To do this, touch the LED Indicatorswitch to activate it.

An interval can be set to remind the user at intervals, this is done by touchingReminder Interval.

To set the applications that alert the user to notifications, select apps under Selectapplications.

Answering or ending callsThe method of answering or ending calls can be adjusted based on the needs of theuser. This is done from the apps screen by touching Settings-> Accessibility ->Answering and ending phone calls. The desired method can be selected.

Using the single tap modeThis allows the user to be able to tap a button to stop an alarm or answer a callinstead of dragging their finger.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility and then tap the Single tap modeswitch to activate it.

Managing accessibility settingsSaving accessibility settings in a fileThe first thing that should be done is to export the current accessibility settings in afile.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Manage accessibility ->Import/Export -> Export to My Files.

Importing an accessibility settings files

Import an accessibility settings file and update the current settings.

From the apps screen, touch Settings -> Accessibility -> Manage Accessibility ->Share via.

Then the accessibility files can be selected and then the user can touch DONE. Thesharing method can then be selected and the on-screen instructions followed to sharethe files.

TroubleshootingThere are some solutions that can be attempted before you try to contact a SamsungService Centre. Some of the solutions may not apply, due to the region and serviceprovider.

When the device is powered on or when the device is in use, it will prompt the user toenter one of the following code:

Password: When the device is locked, the password must be entered to unlock thedevice and grant access.

PIN: When the device is use for the first time or when the PIN feature has beenenabled, you must enter the PIN that has been supplied or the one that has been set byyou. This feature can be disabled by using the Lock SIM card menu.

PUK: Your SIM or USIM card can be blocked sometimes by entering the PINincorrectly several times. When this occurs, the PUK that has been supplied by theservice provided must be entered.

Your device displays network or service error messagesWhen the user in an area with weak signal or poor reception, the phonemay lose reception. Try moving to a different location and attempt to usethe device again. Multiple error messages may be displayed while the useris changing location.Some options on the device cannot be accessed unless a subscription ispurchased. In some cases your service provider will have to be contactedfor more information.

The device does not turn onIf the battery has been completely drained, the device will not turn on. The batteryshould be fully charged before turning on the device.

The touchscreen is not responded appropriatelyIn some cases, if a protective screen is attached to the touchscreen or ifthere are addition accessories to the screen, it may not function properly.If the user is wearing gloves or if their hands are not clean while touchingthe screen a malfunction can occur. Improper functioning will also occur ifthe screen of the device is touched with a sharp object or your fingertips.A malfunction of the touchscreen may also occur in humid conditions orwhen it is exposed to water.The restarting of the device can be helpful in some cases to clear softwarebugs.Always ensure that the software of the device is always updated to thelatest version.If the touchscreen is scratched or damaged visit a Samsung Service Centre.

If your device freezes or has fatal errorsIf your phone or device is freezing or hanging you may need to close the apps andrestart the device. If the device is still responsive, press and hold the power key andvolume key simultaneously for seven seconds to restart.

If the problem is not solved, than a factory reset should be performed. From the appsscreen touch Settings -> Backup and reset -> Factory data reset -> RESET DEVICE ->ERASE EVERYTHING. It is important to note that before you perform the factoryreset a backup of all data should be done.

If this does not solve the problem, you will have to contact a Samsung Service Centre.

Calls are not connectedCheck that you are trying to access the correct mobile network.Check that call barring has not been enabled for the call you are trying tomake.Check that call barring is not enabled for the incoming phone number.

The person on the other line cannot hear you speaking on the callVerify that you are not covering the built in microphone.Verify that the microphone is close to your mouth.If you are using a headset, ensure that it is connected properly.

Echoes during a callTry adjusting the volume of the phone or try to move to another area.

A network that is constantly disconnecting or poor audio quality

Check to verify that the internal antenna of the device is not being blocked.When the device is in an area with poor reception it is possible the devicewill lose complete reception. In the terms of a network, there may beconnectivity issues with the service provider’s base station. Try moving toanother area to see if the reception improves.While the device is moving the services may be disrupted.

The battery is emptyThis means that the battery is low so the battery must be charged.

The battery is not charging properly.Ensure that the charger is properly attached.If that is not the problem, take the phone to a Samsung Service Centre.

The battery is depleting faster than expected.If the battery or the device is exposed to different temperatures the usefulcharge in the battery will be reduced.The consumption on the battery will be increased once there are additionalfeatures such as apps, games or the internet being used.The battery is a consumable and over time the useful charge will bereduced over time.

The device feels hot to the touchWhen the device is using apps that are consuming a lot power for an extended periodof time may get hot to the touch. This is a normal experience and should not affect thelifespan or performance of the device.

Error messages appears when launching the cameraTo operate the camera, the device must have a sufficient amount of memory andbattery power to operate the camera app. However, if the user receives an errormessage when launching the camera, try the following:

Charging the batteryTry to free some of the memory by transferring files to a computer ordeleting files from the device.

The device can also be restarted to see if that will help in resolving theproblem. If this does not work, contact the Samsung Service Centre.

Poor photo qualityThe quality of the photos can vary depending on the surroundings and thephotography techniques you use.If photos are captured in the dark areas, at night or indoors, image noisemay occur. Images may also be out of focus.

Error messages appear when opening multimedia filesIf there are error messages or some files do not play when you try to open them, try thefollowing:

To clear some memory by transferring some files to a computer or deletingfiles from the device.Ensure that the content you are trying to play is not Digital RightsManagement (DRM) protected. If the file is protected, ensure that you havethe appropriate rights to play the file.Verify that the file you are trying to play is supported by the device. If thefile format is not supported by default by the device, then install anapplication that can play the content. To verify the file types you may visitwww.samsung.com to see a list of supported file types.The device will support videos and pictures that have been captured by thedevice. It may not support videos or pictures recorded by other devices.The device will play multimedia files that are authorized by your networkprovider. Some of the content that can be accessed by the device such asringtones, videos or wallpapers may not work properly on the device.

Another Bluetooth device is not detectedEnsure that the Bluetooth feature is enabled on your device.Also ensure that the Bluetooth feature is enabled on the other device youwish to connect to.The two devices should be in close range of each other to a maximum of10m.If these attempts do not solve the problem, you should contact a SamsungService Centre.

A Connection to a Computer is not established when connected to acomputer

Verify that the USB cable you are using is compatible with your device.

Verify that the proper driver is installed and updated on your computer.For users of Windows XP, ensure that the Service Pack 3 or higher isinstalled on the computer.

Your device cannot detect your current locationThe GPS signal may be affected when the device is in some locations such as indoors.In situations such as these, it is best to connect to a Wi-Fi or mobile network to findthe location.
