TRAKKER: NO JOB IS TOO DIFFICULT

Rugged and reliable and with a range of solutions for all needs, Trakker is the vehicle for quarry missions par ex-cellence. This functional, safe vehicle is designed to tackle even the most difficult situations with ease: from handling quarry material and concrete, to snowploughs and over-size loads.

The wide Trakker range - featuring 4x2, 4x4, 6x4 and 6x6 tractor and rigid chassis cab versions and 8x4 and 8x8 rigid chassis cab versions only - means that vehicles can be custom-ised for each specific mission. The GVM is equally extensive: from 18 to 32 t for chassis cabs and from 20 to 40 t for where local conditions permit and for tractors with GCM from 44 t for normal on-road to 56 t subject to local conditions.

The link between Trakker and the heavy Stralis road vehi-cle is expressed by the use of Active Day (AD) and Active Time (AT) cabs and a characteristic grille that communi-cates the family feeling of Iveco heavy vehicles.

The AD is a short cab with a low roof, while the AT is a long cab for missions requiring the driver to spend the night on-board. It is available with a low or high roof.

The typical quality of life on-board a road vehicle is achieved using technical solutions and materials specifically chosen for the quarry-construction site world. Comfort inside and out is guaranteed by optimal soundproofing, a high-visibility multifunctional display arranged in a central position, scratchproof dashboard, high-efficiency climate control system and a pneumatic steering wheel adjustment system. Other features include steering wheel mounted controls for the decompression engine brake, hydraulic retarder, radio, cruise control and automated Eurotronic gear selector for top level driving comfort. A third passen-ger seat is available on demand.

The cab is accessed by means of three steps, the first of which is flexible and made of a special plastic material test-ed in the most demanding conditions. The steel bumper is

made of three independent parts for easy, cost-effective repairs.

The robust double bottleneck ladder frame and special steel C section profiles up to 10 mm thick ensure outstanding load capacity, while wheelbases vary from 3200 to 5820 mm.

Ease of body mounting is guaranteed by the expansion module (dedicated to body builders for programming) and PTO (power take-off) arrangements, including connections and electric controls on instrument panels. The combina-tion of these two features allows the control and program-ming of up to three PTOs independently. Electric connec-tions for body builders are present both inside the cab and on the chassis frame.

Two engine versions are available with four power out-puts: six cylinder Cursor 8 with a displacement of 7.8 litres rated at 360 hp (265 kW) and the Cursor 13 with a dis-placement of 12.9 litres, rated at 410, 450 and 500 hp (302, 332 and 368 kW).

The engines are characterised by a high, constant torque to make sure the vehicle can overcome all obstacles: up to 2300 Nm from 1000 to 1525 rev/min

What is more, Cursor engines comply with and exceed the requirements of the most stringent European environ-mental protection standards. SCR technology guarantees low consumption and less frequent servicing requirements.

The entire driveline is specified for the most demanding missions. The wide range of transmissions with three man-ual 16-speed ZF models is complemented by Eurotronic 12- and 16-speed automated transmissions, both with off-road mode for a more effective start-off under arduous conditions.

Steering axles are equipped with disc brakes, while drive axles are equipped with drum brakes to ensure excellent off-road manoeuvrability. The combination of anti-roll sta-bilisers confers remarkable stability to the vehicle even in the toughest off-road conditions with a high centre of mass.

The choice of suspensions is equally wide, with various combinations of parabolic, semi-elliptic and pneumatic ar-rangements to optimise according to the customer’s needs.

Available for more than 14 years, the automated transmis-sion has been continuously improved and new technology has been implemented to increase and further optimise vehicle integration. Today, it can be said that because of its flexibility and high performance this system is the ideal solution even for the most difficult off-road situations.

In addition to the Eurotronic 12 speed transmission, Iveco Trakker is available with a 16 speed Eurotronic automated transmission, the most suitable for prevalent use in quar-ries and demanding missions when an extra gear makes the difference.

The four basic speeds of the Eurotronic automated trans-mission are not synchronised. The entire assembly is com-pact and robust. It has two secondary shafts and is approxi-mately 70 kg lighter than an Ecosplit manual transmission

(allowing for more payload as a consequence). With a high torque capacity of up to 2600 Nm, it is capable of ensuring the vehicle performance excels, even in the most critical situations.

The electronic control unit is integrated and protected in-side the transmission and constantly communicates with all the other ECUs and sensors of the Trakker by means of the CAN infrastructure, establishing the appropriate run-ning strategy according to driving style, terrain and load and selecting the right gear under all conditions. A simple action is needed to make all the power available in case of unexpected events.

Software is optimised to ensure top manoeuvring sensi-tivity even on steep slopes and to ensure the right gear is engaged in all situations even downhill. The system can be switched to semi-automatic at any time by pressing a button. This means that drivers can shift while maintaining maximum driving agility for the trickiest crossings or on

Page 6: SAMOTER 2011 - The NewsMarketpreview.thenewsmarket.com/Previews/IVEC/DocumentAssets/200494.pdf · IVECO AT SAMOTER 2011 5 TRAKKER: NO JOB IS TOO DIFFICULT 11 ECODAILY 4x4: THE OFF-ROAD,

the most demanding roads, with steep slopes and heavy loads. As a result, drivers can concentrate totally on driving and are constantly informed on vehicle conditions on the display integrated in the dashboard. Ergonomics is excel-lent, because the manual control lever (the same as that of the retarder) is on the right side of the steering wheel and actuated without moving the hands from the wheel.

EuroTronic transmissions have two reversing options to select the most suitable one for the specific situation hav-ing the certainty of millimetric movements, indispensable when there is not much room.

EuroTronic automated transmissions have an electronically controlled clutch actuation. The ideal ratio is automatically selected to protect the engine from over speeding, reduce clutch wear and reduce fuel consumption and noise. Euro-Tronic keeps the engine running in low fuel consumption zones at all times.

The main differences between the two transmissiones are shown in the technical sheet below.

The second Trakker AD380T45W model on show recent-ly took part in the Overland 12 expedition in Africa and is fitted with a Sperotto mobile workshop body.

windows in the doors allow off-road terrain and city traffic alike to be tackled in safety. The height and in-clination of the steering column is pneumatically ad-justable to ensure the ideal driving position. Compliant with the most recent type-approval standards, vehicles are provided with an additional wing mirror to mini-mise blind angles.

DrivelineCursor 8 and 13 litre engines with electronically con-trolled fuel injectors and an overhead camshaft deliver excellent torque at a range of engine speeds and engine brake functions to guarantee flexible running and high braking power to HD8 models, two fundamental fea-tures for use on construction sites.

The entire driveline is designed for the toughest, most demanding of missions: Astra offers a wide choice of ZF 16-speed mechanical transmissions, Astronic 16-speed automated transmissions and fully automatic transmis-

sions for top-notch take-off efficiency and optimal trac-tion on all terrain. To adapt to mission requirements, Astra equips its ve-hicles with 8 t, 8.5 t or 9 t front steering axles and a remarkable, extra-strong 10 t capacity steering axle on 6x6 and 8x6 vehicles for the toughest use on soft, loose terrain, such as sand or mud alongside special versions with concentrated loads on the front axle (winches, cranes, perforating tools or more).

The chassis The Astra chassis is the genuine strength of the HD8 series: made of special, very high-yield strength, steel, with parallel C section (320 x 90 x 10 mm) side rails for the entire length of the chassis, joined together by cross members. With the highest Rail Bending Moment (R.B.M.) among competitors, the Astra chassis is famed for its ability of withstanding heavy loads on any type of terrain, mini-mising torsion stress and ensuring high stability even

with a very high centre of mass. The simple construc-tion of the structure and its toughness, which does not require additional reinforcement, allows body builders to simply and quickly mount any superstructure.Cast leaf spring mountings and axle mounts, designed with very high factors of safety, best -in-class quality performance levels.

SuspensionHD8 range vehicles utilise parabolic leaf springs on both the front and rear axles for more comfortable and quieter running. Optional semi-elliptic leaf springs are available for specific applications where very high centres of mass and very arduous conditions of use are foreseen.

Body buildingThe most extreme body installations are possible by exploiting the extra features of the heavy duty chassis and new electronics control systems. The adoption of the Multiplex system allows body builders to manage engine speed and optimise the function of the various power take-offs. Outstanding versatility to satisfy all needs.

A 6x6 ADT30D articulated dumper will also be on show on the stand.

The distinctive features of Astra vehicles - power, strength, resilience and mobility - are epitomised in the ADT range. These articulated dumpers stand out for their unbeatable grip and traction, even on the most dif-ficult terrain and operative agility also in the most inac-cessible of places, with top-level handling, stability and comfort at all times.

The range currently features four models: ADT 25D, 30D, 35D, 40D, with a capacity of 23, 28, 31.5 and 36 t, respectively. All models are equipped with Cursor en-gines from 320 to 460 cv and automatic transmissions with Eco-Power selection mode.

The tipping body is actuated by twin dual-acting multi-stage hydraulic cylinders located in a perfectly protected position inside the chassis rails (an Astra exclusive). The body - with a heaped capacity from 14.5 to 22 m3 - has

another exclusive feature: the rear trolley geometry, hinged under the frame rails instead of on the outside, is much wider than usual to provide better torsional resistance, improved vehicle stability and correct body positioning during tipping.

The model on show at the stand is equipped with front suspension with a beam axle connected to the trans-mission by means of a drive shaft and to the chassis by means of an A-Frame which increases driving comfort with its simple structure and simple maintenance pro-viding advantages in machine productivity.

Another strength of the Astra articulated dumper is the cab, designed in compliance with ROPS (Roll Over Protective Structure)/FOPS (Falling Objects Protective Structure) standards and designed around the operator with particular attention to driving comfort and visibil-ity. Electronic instruments allow all parts of the vehicle to be monitored. Modern graphical information appears on a high-definition multifunction display for checking

vehicle functions in real time and indicating accurate service schedule requirements.

The productivity of these vehicles must be guaranteed at top levels at all times. For this reason, all the techno-logical solutions adopted aim at cutting routine and sup-plementary servicing times: the bonnet is electrically op-erated to make checking and servicing easier. Even the “gull-wing” front wheel mudguards open fully to ensure the best possible accessibility to mechanical parts under the cab, which in turn can be tipped leftwards by 53°.

The ADT range includes many customisation opportuni-ties according to needs: extra strength body, for haulage of rocks or heated for easily dumping material in partic-ularly cold climates. A chassis cab version of the ADT30 model is available for special body configurations, such as tanks, lumber transport beds or even concrete laying.

The ROPS/FOPS standard compliant cab, positioned on the left, is made of steel and has large windows which extend into the lower part of the door to ensure op-timal visibility. Innovative solutions for obtaining maxi-mum safety and operative comfort are implemented throughout the cab. The spacious cab is fully pressu-rised, soundproofed and thermally insulated. Finding

the perfect driving position is easy with the universally adaptable pneumatic suspension seat.

All instruments are arranged ergonomically around the operator and are easy to use. The new cluster - in com-mon with the entire range - stands out due to the quan-tity and completeness of information managed via the Multiplex system. Three memory areas are devoted to engine, gearbox and vehicle to monitor all functions in real time.

The chassis is made of high-strength steel with two boxed chassis rails and a central, ring-shaped element (also boxed) to ensure top level torsion and bending resistance, further contributing to driving comfort.

The front and rear suspension system is also designed to ensure maximum driving comfort: independent steer-ing wheels and hydro-pneumatic suspension cylinders on front end and fork with Panhard rod on the rear to al-

low adequate suspension travel on the roughest terrain, while the two hydro-pneumatic cylinders positioned be-hind the axle provide excellent vertical damping.

The body is made of high-strength steel and actuated by two three-element simple-acting telescopic hydraulic cylinders. In addition to enhancing its manoeuvrability, the particular compactness of the vehicle is exploited to increase body capacity, which now reaches 25.2m³ (heaped).

Another important innovation of the RD40 dumper is the new wheel hub/rear axle flanging system which re-places the old cone-shaped attachment to considerably facilitate easy wheel assembly operations in the event of repairs/servicing.

The current Astra rigid dumper range features four models - RD28, RD32, RD40 and RD50 - with capac-ity of 28, 32, 40 and 50 t, respectively. All models are

equipped with Cursor engines from 350 to 500 cv, ex-cept for the RD50, the only model to fit a Deutz 680 cv engine. The automatic transmission has Eco-Power mode and integral retarder (standard or optional ac-cording to the model).

The RD range also offers many customisation possibili-ties with a wide range of optional equipment and bodies according to the intended vehicle mission.

Iveco Customer Service and its range of after sales serv-ices will be attending the show once again this year. Services include:

Easy Skite. A new advanced diagnostic instrument im-plementing endoscope technology for rapid and easy visual diagnostic and troubleshooting. From now on, catalysts, drive axles, steering axles, transmissions and engines no longer need to be disassembled for trouble-shooting. Furthermore, the instrument can connect to the Iveco C.E.T. Technical Expert Centre in Torino in order to access the specialised technical knowledge of Iveco engineers and cut vehicle downtime to the mini-mum.

Equipment Catalogue. Iveco Customer Service has prepared an Iveco workshop equipment catalogue. It is available today for Italy and will soon be available for all other markets. The objective is to provide excellent after sales services also by making available specialised

state-of-the-art workshop equipment. New suppliers have been chosen on the basis of reliability and techno-logical criteria to obtain this result.

Showbook edition 2011. The 2011 edition of the ac-cessory catalogue is available from all Iveco dealerships and workshops. It illustrates the entire range of Iveco Shop accessories developed exclusively for Iveco cus-tomers to make their vehicle unique. Showbook 2011 is a powerful sales and communications tool. It has ap-proximately 150 pages organised in five sections: exte-rior accessories, interior accessories, safety, comfort and hi-tech. All products are designed to guarantee top quality levels by combining state-of-the-art design, tech-nological innovation and safety.

Assistance Non Stop. Iveco Customer Centre per-sonnel will be at the show to illustrate the road-side assistance services offered to Iveco customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year throughout Europe.

Qualified Iveco Customer Service will be answering questions on services, accessories and spare parts at the stand using i-Pads and specific applications for cus-tomers. As usual, the Iveco Loft Truck Origin 100% will be parked outside to provide information on the latest sales campaigns and on the new after-market services.

Also present on the stand will be Iveco Capital, Iveco’s vehicle financing company that, for over 20 years, has been supplying a wide array of financial solutions tar-geted at the acquisition of new and used commercial vehicles. On the occasion of the Samoter fair, some par-ticular financing solutions appropriate to Iveco off-road vehicles will be presented.

Of particular relevance is Iveco Capital’s SOFTLEAS-ING, a formula that permits the creation of a flexible repayment structure that is lower during the first 12 months and a repayment period that extends up to 72 months.
