ADDRESS:

The winter of 2007–2008 will be remembered in Madison as one where all snowfall records were broken and storms rolled into our city one after another. As a result, we look back even more fondly at all our travels to warmer climes since last fall, particularly New York, Miami and Los Angeles. Unlike previous newsletters, this issue does not contain many stories but focuses almost entirely on the images themselves.

Over the past several months we have undertaken many projects at Tandem Press. One of the most exciting initiatives was the appointment of our new digital printer, Jason Ruhl. As an accomplished painter himself, Jason understands and collaborates with each visiting artist on their vision and enables them along with our other master printers, Bruce Crownover, Andy Rubin and Joe Freye to attain their artistic goals in the field of printmaking.

Since last fall, we continued our participation in print fairs. In November, we exhibited at the New York Print Fair where we highlighted the work of Nicola López who created an installation for our booth entitled “Half-Life.” The installation was the first of its kind for the Print Fair and was marvelously reviewed in the New York Times, Artnet and Art In America. We also showcased new prints by Suzanne Caporael and Robert Cottingham.

At the beginning of December, we joined thousands of gallerists, consultants, collectors, and artists in Miami Beach. We participated in the Ink Miami show, which was the only fair focusing on prints and works on paper. In January, we traveled to the LA Art Fair and we are currently preparing for two exhibits at Art Chicago and Print Basel.

On June 19th, we will hold the 15th Annual Tandem Press Wine Auction. We are honored that the Promega Corporation will host the auction. The funds that we raise at the wine auction are used to publish catalogues and cover the costs of our educational programming, which enable us to provide the margin of excellence we strive to maintain.

We greatly look forward to seeing you at our upcoming exhibits or at Tandem Press.

As our supporters, you have made us one of the leading print publishers in the United States. To enable us to continue our unique artistic mission of bringing renowned artists together with master printers, UW–Madison students, faculty and staff, Tandem has been offered an opportunity to move to a new home furnished with state-of-the-art facilities for research, outreach, and teaching on the UW– Madison campus.

It has always been a dream of Tandem Press to move to the campus, as we are currently located three miles away. We rent our space from the State of Wisconsin, and we share the building with the state car fleet facility, state printing and the state mailing operation. To be on the campus will enable us to increase our visibility to the University community, the visiting alumni and the Madison community at large.

Our Chancellor, John Wiley, a physicist and engineer, and a passionate lover of the arts has a vision to completely revamp the arts facilities on the UW–Madison campus. The Chazen Museum of Art is the first step in this overall plan and construction will begin next year.

Under the leadership of Chancellor Wiley, the University has identified space on the campus just east of the Kohl Center to house arts facilities. Plans include providing Tandem Press with a self-contained, spacious, on-campus location that would enhance our

teaching, outreach and research missions, and better serve the needs of our artists and supporters.

The board and staff are excited to announce our plans to raise $5 million for this important step in Tandem’s progress. We believe that there is an opportunity for all of our supporters to have a vital impact on this campaign. We are delighted to announce that we have received an anonymous gift of $250,000 which will be given as a dollar-for dollar match to launch the Tandem Press Building Campaign.

The entire building will provide a warm welcome for Tandem supporters, visitors from the campus, members of the Madison community and beyond. The site will also greatly enhance Tandem’s profile in a location, just blocks away from the Chazen Museum of Art, and the new Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.

Leadership gifts will fund key areas in the new Tandem Press building, and select naming opportunities are available, including the expanded curatorial and research area and a new exhibition gallery at the entry to the building.

For further information, please contact Paula Panczenko at Tandem Press, or Jennifer McFarland, Director of Development, UW Foundation, 1848 University Avenue, Madi-son, WI 53708 • (608) 263-0851 or [email protected]. We look forward to inviting you into our new home!

An exhibition of glass from the Racine Art Museum (RAM) is on view at the Art Court in the Dane County Regional Airport. Tandem Press organized the exhibition, and Bruce Pepich, the director and curator of collections at the Racine Art Museum, curated the show. This exhibition is indicative of the types of artworks that can be viewed at the RAM. Tandem Press organizes all exhibitions at the Dane County Regional Airport Art Court.

The exhibition has been organized into different categories to help one see different aspects of the glass collection and the methods the artists use with the materials at hand. The exhibition covers six areas: The Versatility of Blown Glass; Flowers and Fruit as Subject; The Human Figure: An Age-Old Subject in A New Medium; Color and Abstraction: The Seattle Influence; The Human Figure: An Age-Old Subject in A New Medium; Large Scale and Unusual Forms in Glass; and Wisconsin and the History of the Studio Glass Movement.

RAM comprehensively collects the works of artists with national and international reputations to demonstrate their career growth and the development of their aesthetic concepts. The museum already owns multiple pieces by several masters. The exhibit contains works by 30 leading glass artists including Dale Chihuly, Harvey Littleton, William Morris and Joel Philip Myers.

For more information on RAM, please visit the website www.ramart.org. The exhibition continues until May 4, 2008.
