HOST UK - COUld you offer a weekend in your home to a foreign student? Did you know that in universities and colleges throughout the UK there are many thousands of international students who would just love to meet some of the inhabitants of these islands and chat about the differences in our cultures and lifestyles, as well as points of contact. Rather than would

to see the country in the company of who live here. Rather than stay on

campus, with who speak their own language, they would value the chance to spend a weekend English with the locals. Rather than spend Christmas alone in a deserled hall of residence they would love to join in with the celebrations and find out what is on. Could you offer a weekend or Christmas invitation to your to one or two

once or twice a You would them an experience which would

stand out in their memories of Britain, and which might change their of this country for ever. SAL TFORD PARISH COUNCIL NEWS Clerk - P. Godfrey, 489, Bath Road, Sal/ford, Bristol BSJI JBA Tel: 400058

New P-arish Councillor At our September Council we welcomed Councillor Jon Hayes who is living In

Wick house Close. Traffic Calming Measures You may have triggered off the SLOW DOWN s ign which has been situated at three locations in and around the village over a period of six weeks. This was on loan from B&NES and if the Parish Council considers it has been successful one may he purchased for Saltford. A 20 mph limit along the High Street from Beech Road / Norman Road junction continuing along Mead Lane to The Jolly Sailor and along The Shallows to the A4 Bath Road will commence in January 2002. School Bus As First Bus have discontinued the Salt ford to Wellsway School route B&NES have been able to arrange for Buglers, a private coach company, to take over this service at very short notice. The fare has increased to £ I return but a 10 journey ticket is available from the driver at a cost of £ 4.50. Queens Golden Jubilee Celebrations 2002 Is there anybody out there who could organise an cvent for Saltford during the bank holiday weekend of the 1-4 June 2002? We would love to hear from you if you would be willing to arrange something special for lhis occasion. Memorial Gardens In the June/July issue of SCAN. I mentioned the vandalism in the Memorial Garden. The new sundial and the stone seats are still being damaged - this time the edges are being repeatcdly chipped away. If you do see anyone damaging these structures pleasc ring the Policc . Barking Dogs This has nothing whatever to do with the state of my mental health! It is about the dogs in and around our village that keep people awake at night barking. Rather than tell me about it why not get in touch with the B&NES Dog Warden direct on 01225 396633. Overhanging Trees and Hedges A word of appreciation to all of you who keep your own vegetation to your own side of the fence and thanks to those of you to whom I have been instructed to write asking you to cut the ovcrhanging branches for responding so quickly . Councillors Surgery The next Surge ry is from 10 am until Ilam on Saturday 27 October 2001 in the Parish Council office which is at the rear of Davies & Way . Councillor R M King will be pleased to see anyone who can call in. Grants In September the Council gave a grant to West Country Crimes\oppers towards the work they do for the community . A g rant was also made to Saltford Sporls Club towards the cost of repairs to the roof of the Club.

one visitor - as it was 2 months since we had met several good social occasions had been held. The Quiz and Wine event had been successful both financially and in enjoyment. The outing to Coteshay Manor in July was very enjoyable but a financial loss because of lack of numbers. The walk around Salt ford with Malcolm Guthrie became an interesting stroll down the village with plenty of historical details -thence to the Church and a quick dash to the Church Hall and no further because of the rain. Another walk around Salt ford was planned for 28th September. Weare hoping to have a stand at the S.C.A. open day on 13th October to commemorate the opening of Salt ford Hall. A fter refreshments, the speaker Mrs Heidi Stringer gave an excellent talk on the Bristol Cancer Help Centre and the work that they do and the help they can be to cancer sufferers. Next Meeting is October 9th at Saltford Hall at 7.30 pm - our A.G.M. and the Sales Table is "Anything with a Harvest Theme" - D Pillinger 01225 873476
