Notes for partents on how to use this Salahuddin

activity book and it's main objective:

This Salahuddin activity book starts off with a very brief

description of the significance of Salahuddin to Palestine

and masjid Al Aqsa which sets the background and context

for the three diary entries that follow. These fictitous

diary entries are from a young Palestinian child who was

living during the time of Salahuddin in the year 1187. These

reading and colouring exercises will help children imagine

what it might have been like living during this time. Each

diary entry follows an interactive activity to help children

remain engaged and to re-enforce the topic of learning.

One of the activities involves writing a postcard to a friend

living in Palestine right now to show them love and support.

We hope this activity will help children to empathise with

the people of Palestine. The final activity is a Salahuddin

wordsearch, which features words like peace, justice and

hero to emphasize some of the concepts that we are trying

to teach about who Salahuddin was and what he stood for.

These words can also be used as conversation starters with

your children too, e.g. why was Salahuddin a hero?

A little about Mini Muslim Pixels:

Mini Muslim Pixels started - like many other accounts on

Instagram - during the first lockdown in England. I was

struggling to homeschool my (at the time) 4 year old whilst

also entertaining my 2 year old. I started making my own

interactive worksheets that aimed to be engaging and fun

while also teaching them the basics of our beautiful deen,

Islam. I started by creating an arabic alphabet series to

prepare them for reading and engaging with the Qur'an in

future. My kids enjoyed the worksheets so much, I thought

I might as well share them with others, so they too can also

benefit from them. And voila, Mini Muslim Pixels was born!

Salahuddin was a hero for all muslims.

He was especially important to Palestinian History,

when a Christian group called the Crusaders had

taken control of Jerusalem. He unified the

muslim world and led his army to win

the battles against the Crusaders

in 1187 and free Jerusalem from

their rule. He was the first to be the

custodian of Masjid Al Aqsa.

Salahuddin's focus was on bringing justice

to the muslims while being generous

and kind to everyone. He is remembered as

the defender of Islam and a true hero.

It's June 1187.

Summer is in full swing, the hot

humid air makes the sand stick to my feet.

It goes in between my toes acting like a

natural exfoliator as I walk in my broken

sandals. The battle against the Crusaders

seems like a tough one to win but Umm says our

Sultan will start a revolution and will save

us from the Crusaders. Maybe I'll be able to

repair my sandals after the battle is over.

I wanted to fight alongside my Sultan but I'm too

young. I wanted to do something for our freedom,

our voice, for justice. As Muslims, we know that

dua is the most powerful weapon for a believer

so I've been using this weapon of mine day and

night and I have full faith in my Lord that He will

answer my duas very soon. I know my Lord is the

greatest and He will grant us to be victorious.

Read the following diary entries of a

child who lived in 1187 in Palestine. During

this time there was war between the

muslims in Palestine and the Christian

Crusader groups. These fictional diary

entries will give you some insight in what

it might have been like for them.

Abba tells me our Sultan has already

managed to secure Egypt and Syria with

his courageousness, righteousness and

faithfulness to the truth. That's why he

has been named as Salahuddin, meaning the

Righteousness of faith. His birth name is

Yusuf Ayubi but now he's our leader, our

hero, our Sultan, Sultan Salahuddin Ayubi.

When my Sultan secured Shams he made

schools, hospitals and institutions for the

people to go and gain knowledge. I hope my

Sultan can do the same for us, when he saves

us here in Jerusalem from these Crusaders

who have made us prisoners in our own homes.

I would love to study the Quran and theology

along with astronomy, mathematics and

law, just like my Sultan.

Ya Allah, please grant us victory!

It's July 1187

We won! We have been saved from the

Crusaders! My Sultan, my hero, he did

it!! He saved us with the help of the

Almighty! Thank you, Allah! Alhamdulillah

times a gazillion. It's July 1187 and we

have won the battle of Hattin; Our

Sultan has defeated the Crusaders who

had forcefully invaded Jerusalem. They

have been defeated by the Great Sultan

Salahuddin and the Ayyubid Empire.

Alhamdulillah!

We won !

Alhamdul i l lah !

It's October 1187

The crusaders tried their luck again, why

don't they just leave us alone? No one in the

neighbourhood is happy with them around again.

I prayed day and night for our Sultan and

our army to win against the evil crusaders

and All Praise belongs to Allah, we have been

victorious once again. Nobody wants to be ruled

by the crusaders. Why do they keep coming

back? I wish they've now left us for good and

never come back.

I love my Sultan, he is my hero. Not only is he

just and kind towards Muslims but he is so kind

and fair with our Christian neighbours too! He

has bought such peace into the neighbourhood.
