  • Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

Apolytikion for St. Raphael in the Fourth Tone

Because of the finding of your holy relics, wise

one, * the Island of Lesvos has been filled fully

with the grace, * which God richly gave to you. *

You, O devout martyr Raphael, paradoxically *

appeared to many people, and you grant cures

and healings. * And therefore we the faithful re-

    joice in all your miracles.

Apolytikion for St. Raphael in the First Tone

To the offspring of Ithaca, the pride and joy of

Lesvos, * monastic martyrs’ glory, let us offer to

Raphael our songs of praise; * for lately he

appeared, and pours out cures and healings to us

all. * Inexplicably he appears to believers, both in

dreams and awake, who cry: * Glory to Christ

who gave you His might. * Glory to Him who gave

you miracles. * Glory to Him who through you

    fulfills our prayerful requests.

Apolytikion in honor of Sts. Raphael, Nicholas &

    Irene

Having contended on Lesvos for the sake of

Christ God, you have sanctified the island since

the discovery of your sacred relics, O blessed

ones; wherefore we honor you, O Godbearing

Raphael, together with Nicholas and virgin Irene,

as our divine protectors and intercessors with the

    Lord.

Singers and Chanters: Richard Bethune, Tabitha Bethune,

Anthony Birozes, David Boyd and Lynne Lucher

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Plagal of the

    Fourth Tone

You descended from on high, O compassionate

One, and condescended to be buried for three days,

so that from the passions You might set us free.

Our life and resurrection, O Lord, glory be to

    You.

Apolytikion of the Feast in the First Tone

In giving birth you retained your virginity, and in

dormition you did not forsake the world, O

Theotokos. You were translated unto life, being the

Mother of Life. And thus by virtue of your

intercessions you deliver our souls from death.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Plagal of the Second

    Tone

The Theotokos, unsleeping in intercession * and the

immovable hope of protection, * could not be

retained by any tomb or death. * For being Life's

own Mother, she was transferred to life by Him *

    who dwelt in the ever-virgin.

    9th Sunday of Matthew

On this day we also commemorate:

Floros & Lauros the Monk-martyrs of Illyria,

Hermos the Martyr and Leontus the martyr

  • EPISTLE READING

    Prokeimenon. Mode Plagal 4.

    Psalm 75.11,1

Make your vows to the Lord our God and perform them.

Verse: God is known in Judah; his name is great in Israel.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 3:9-17

Brethren, we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the

grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and another man is

building upon it. Let each man take care how he builds upon it. For no other foundation can any

one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation

with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw - each man's work will become manifest; for

the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of

work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he

will receive a reward. If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will

be saved, but only as through fire. Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's

Spirit dwells in you? If any one destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple

is holy, and that temple you are.

  • THE GOSPEL READING

The Gospel According to Matthew 14:22-34

At that time, Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side,

while he dismissed the crowds. And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up into the hills

by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, but the boat by this time was many

furlongs distant from the land, beaten by the waves; for the wind was against them. And in the

fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him

walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out for fear. But

immediately he spoke to them, saying "Take heart, it is I; have no fear." And Peter answered

him, "Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water." He said, "Come." So Peter got out of

the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus; but when he saw the wind, he was afraid,

and beginning to sink he cried out, "Lord, save me." Jesus immediately reached out his hand

and caught him, saying to him, "O man of little faith, why did you doubt?" And when they

entered the boat, the wind ceased. And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, "Truly you are

the Son of God." And when they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret.

  • PRAYERS BEFORE HOLY COMMUNION

I believe and confess, Lord, that You are truly the Christ,

the Son of the living God, Who came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the first. I

also believe that this is truly Your pure Body and that this is truly Your precious Blood.

Therefore, I pray to You, have mercy upon me, and forgive my transgressions, voluntary and

involuntary, in word and deed, in knowledge or in ignorance. And make me worthy, without

condemnation, to partake of Your pure Mysteries for the remission of sins and for eternal life.

    Amen.

How shall I, who am unworthy, enter into the splendor of Your saints? If I should dare to enter

into the bridal chamber, my vesture will condemn me, since it is not a wedding garment; and

being bound up, I shall be cast out by the angels. Cleanse, O Lord, the filth of my soul, and save

me, as You are the one Who loves mankind. In Your love, Lord, cleanse my soul, and save me.

Master Who loves mankind, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, let not these Holy Gifts be to my

judgment because I am unworthy, but rather for the purification and sanctification of both soul

and body and the pledge of the life and Kingdom to come. It is good for me to cleave unto God

and to place in Him the hope of my salvation.

O Son of God, receive me today as a partaker of Your mystical supper. For I will not speak of

the mystery to Your enemies, nor will I give You a kiss, as did Judas. But like the thief, I

confess to You: Remember me, Lord, in Your Kingdom.

  • Please Come for Breakfast/Brunch and Fellowship

A little over two months ago, a small group of parishioners from Sts. RNI met for

breakfast/brunch at the I-HOP in Cumming following the morning Bible Class. A month ago,

the group met again only it was much larger. There were 16 of us since those from the first

group called some more parishioners. This second time we went to Reveille Café, at the corner

of GA 20 and Suwanee Dam Road in the Publix shopping center. We were lucky to be able to

use their private room, the address is 5885 Cumming Highway, Sugar Hill. We all enjoyed the

Camaraderie and being together and decided that we should extend this fellowship to any

parishioner who was interested. The age appears to be AARP eligible but anyone is welcome

to join the group, men and women. We reserved the Reveille meeting room because we liked

    the privacy.

The gathering will be at Reveille Café, on Monday, August 19, at 10:00 a.m. for

Breakfast/Brunch. Hope you can join us. Please call and reserve, space is limited. Mabel

Birozes has graciously agreed to take reservations.
