RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS

“Your generous contribution helps us to care for our re-tired sisters and enables our younger sisters to continue in active ministry,” writes a religious sister. Your gift to to-day’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and more for thousands of senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. It also helps ensure younger members can contin-ue the good works of their elders!

As a family, we pray for our parishioners and their relatives who are currently on active duty in the military.

Academy Students Honor Life

Students at our Academy of St. Therese shared their voices in the Archdiocese’s “Sanctity of Life,” essay initiative. Not only are these essays affirmations of the Catholic perspective of the holiness of all life, they serve as a testament that the Faith of our youth at the Academy is strong in what sometimes seems to be a maelstrom of the twenty-first century.

As one student, Ariana, writes, “Everyone deserves respect. Every life is precious. It is a gift from God. We are an expres-sion of God - we honor God when we respect, love and serve others.” Another student, Kristen, shares, “We are all created equal and in the image and likeness of God. We each have a divine spark placed within us by God, and not one of us is above or below the other.” This past November 4, the Pontiff, Pope Francis, wrote, “The Church needs faithful people who proclaim the Gospel with enthusiasm and wisdom, instilling hope and faith.” The words of these students show that at Academy of St. Therese, we can be proud of our younger generation that em-braces and shares this papal message.

One of our sixth grade students, Sonny, started off with the foundation offered in Genesis, ‘God looked down at everything He created, and He was very pleased.’ Here this eleven year old reminds us that if our heavenly Father is pleased with everything He created, how can we, His children, be displeased. As Sonny says in his closing paragraph, “It is not our job to judge, but to treat others with respect, fairness, and love in our hearts.”

This holiday season, we are thankful for the faith these students reflect, not only in their writing, but in their daily lives, and for the Parish of St. Therese of Lisieux for their on-going support.

Our yearly Christmas gift outreach to the children of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Jersey City has begun. Names of the children and of local adults available for the gift adoption pro-gram will be distributed at the main entrance located in the rear of our church AFTER ALL MASSES on the weekends of NOVEMBER 25/26 AND DECEMBER 2/3. All gifts must be NEW, WRAPPED AND TAGGED for the person you adopt. If you are unsure what to pur-

chase for your child, gift cards are also a welcome gift. All gifts must be brought to Church by Sunday, December 10th at 1PM to ensure delivery to your child by Christmas.

A very big thank you to all who helped collect, sort and pack the food!
