Week of Awareness for Persecuted Christians Nov. 26 – Dec. 2

In observance of this week, we ask that you take a moment to pray for our brothers and sisters around the globe who are punished for practic-ing their faith.

For more information about persecuted Christians visit: USCCB.org, Christiansatrisk.org, or ArchdioceseofHartford.org.

Prayer for Persecuted Christians:

O God of all the nations, the One God who is and was and always will be, in your providence you willed that your Church

be united to the suffering of your Son. Look with mercy on your servants

who are persecuted for their faith in you. Grant them perseverance and courage

to be worthy imitators of Christ. Bring your wisdom upon leaders of nations

to work for peace among all peoples. May your Spirit open conversion for those who contradict your will,

that we may live in harmony. Give us the grace to be united in truth and freedom,

and to always seek your will in our lives.

Through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lady, Queen of Peace, pray for us.

Prayer composed by: Abp. William E. Lori, Supreme Chaplain, Knights of Columbus

November Traditions

The children in our Religious Education Classes will focus on the lives of their patron saints and the deceased members of their families throughout the month of November. The prayer table will be adorned with prayer cards and prayer intentions brought into class by the children. We hope that this will help to make them aware of the traditions we have come to appreciate as Roman Catholics. The closing prayer

will be, one that you may remember learning as a child. “Eternal rest unto their souls, O Lord, and May perpet-ual life shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.

May all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.”

The mission of the parish meatloaf ministry is to pro-vide the House of Bread, a Hartford soup kitchen,

with at least 12 baked and frozen meatloaves once a month throughout the year. The meatloaves, cooked and frozen at home, are then brought to the parish

hall and placed in the freezer. Once they are all collected, a volunteer delivers them to the House of Bread. Thank you for your support.

Catholic Teaching on Solidarity

We are one human family. We are our brothers’ and sis-ters’ keepers, wherever they may be. Pope John Paul II insists, “We are all really responsible for all.” Loving our neighbor has global dimensions in a shrinking world. At the core of the virtue of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace. Pope Paul VI taught that “if you want peace, work for justice.” The Gospel calls us to be “peacemakers.” Our love for all our sisters and brothers demands that we be “sentinels of peace” in a world wounded by violence and conflict.
