Learning and Living Our Catholic FaithMy dear Brothers and Sisters, Members of the Body of Christ,

Happy Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ!

What a wonderful day on which to gather for the first time for Holy Mass after such a long time away! After almost exactly three months we gather again around the Holy Altar to worship Jesus, we come together again around the Lord's table to be present to him in person at his Sacrifice of the Last Supper and Calvary, the offering of himself to the Father for our reconciliation with Him.

This great Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, which really is a Feast in which we give thanks for the Mass and the Eucharist, presents us all with a wonderful opportunity to renew our gratitude and love for Jesus in the Eucharist. While the obligation to attend Sunday Mass is still suspended by our bishop (although we should find ways to keep the Lord's Day holy) we can all approach the beginning of Mass again, as if it were our first Holy Communion, recalling the preparation we made for that wonderful moment in our lives. It's yet another moment to begin again in our discipleship of Jesus. Brothers and Sisters, we need Jesus. We and the world need the Communion that he gives and is. We need him in the Eucharist. I urge you, love him!

St Thomas Aquinas(1225 - 1275), the Church's premiere theologian, preached with wonder and amazement about our Eucharistic Lord:

"Since it was the will of God’s only-begotten Son that men should share in his divinity, he assumed our nature in order that by becoming man he might make men gods. Moreover, when he took our flesh he dedicated the whole of its substance to our salvation. He offered his body to God the Father on the altar of the cross as a sacrifice for our reconciliation. He shed his blood for our ransom and purification, so that we might be redeemed from our wretched state of bondage and cleansed from all sin. But to ensure that the memory of so great a gift would abide with us for ever, he left his body as food and his blood as drink for the faithful to consume in the form of bread and wine.

O precious and wonderful banquet, that brings us salvation and contains all sweetness! Could anything be of more intrinsic value? Under the old law it was the flesh of calves and goats that was offered, but here Christ himself, the true God, is set before us as our food. What could be more wonderful than this? No other sacrament has greater healing power; through it sins are purged away, virtues are increased, and the soul is enriched with an abundance of every spiritual gift. It is offered in the Church for the living and the dead, so that what was instituted for the salvation of all may be for the benefit of all. Yet, in the end, no one can fully express the sweetness of this sacrament, in which spiritual delight is tasted at its very source, and in which we renew the memory of that surpassing love for us which Christ revealed in his passion.

It was to impress the vastness of this love more firmly upon the hearts of the faithful that our Lord instituted this sacrament at the Last Supper. As he was on the point of leaving the world to go to the Father, after celebrating the Passover with his disciples, he left it as a perpetual memorial of his passion. It was the fulfilment of ancient figures and the greatest of all his miracles, while for those who were to experience the sorrow of his departure, it was destined to be a unique and abiding consolation."

May our Mother Mary, the Mother of Jesus, Mother of the Church, Mother of our Eucharistic Lord, pray for us that we might appreciate and adore the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist!

- God love you, Fr Jeremy OMV

THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Focus: Through the Eucharist, Jesus gives us the strength we need on our journey through life to Heaven.

Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ and honor Jesus as the Bread of Life. Just as God led Moses and the Israelites out of Egypt and through 40 years of hardship and danger in the desert, so Jesus gives us the strength we need as we follow him through the spiritual dangers of his life.

In Deuteronomy, Moses reminds the people of how God brought them out of Egypt and through 40 years in the desert. Saint Paul writes of our unity as Christians, for we all partake of the one loaf. Jesus tells the Jewish crowds that he is the living bread that came down from Heaven so that eternal life may be found through him.

PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"Man’s Response To God / I Believe – We Believe

“Only One Faith”175. "We guard with care the faith that we have received from the Church, for without ceasing, under the action of God's Spirit, this deposit of great price, as if in an excellent vessel, is constantly being renewed and causes the very vessel that contains it to be renewed."62

Your prayers are requested for the soul of

Richard Tolbert“May his soul and the souls of all the faithful

departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.”

WELCOME TO ST MARY'S, BR JAY-AR!

Br. Jay-Ar was born and raised in Brunei, but his parents are originally from the Philippines. His parents are members of Couples for Christ, an international Catholic family renewal ministry, and he was a member of their Kids for Christ and Youth for Christ ministries, the latter of which is where he began discerning a vocation to the priesthood.

In 2008, his family migrated to Vancouver, Canada, and in 2012, he entered the Seminary of Christ the King where he was a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Vancouver for 4 years. He left the seminary in 2016 but he was still discerning a call to the priesthood. He first learned about the Oblates through the VISION Vocations Network, and was attracted to their spirituality and fraternity. Br. Jay-Ar entered the Oblates in September of 2017 and professed his first vows in August 2019.
