HURRICANE IRMA Friday, September 8th

As I am writing this Hurricane Irma has not yet arrived. We are preparing a bulletin to transmit to our publisher before the power may go out. Right now the direction of the storm changes a little every time they update the path. Hopefully we did not suffer too badly with this hurricane, but storms are always stressful and a lot of work for everyone with preparations and clean up. The other thought is that our neighbors in the Caribbean certainly did duffer as those small islands were hit pretty hard. Thank you to the staff and parishioners who “stepped up to the plate” and helped us prepare for the storm. By next hurricane season we should have even more protection in place, and preparation for hurricanes should be a little easier. In the meantime let’s keep praying that hurricane prayer! Fr. Mark

A Special Request Regarding Hurricane Preparedness

Events and ministries are numerous at St. Lucie but there is one that is critical to the safety and wellbeing of property and inhabitants: Hurricane Preparedness. We need

a special team that is able-bodied and can give their service at a moment’s notice. Basically, this is to aide in the installation of hurricane windows on the Church, Parish Center, Parish Office and Friary. Your services might never need to be summoned but we do need a team in place so that the work is evenly dispensed and can be accomplished within just a few hours. Please contact the Parish Office at 878-1215 if you are willing to lend a helping hand. This is one team that needs to be dependable during hurricane season. At the time of this writing new Miami-Dade approved hurricane impact windows are being ordered for the Church to protect the stained glass windows.

LIPSTICK AND PURIFICATORS Drinking and accepting Christ from the cup brings us great joy. Unfortunately, for those who wear lipstick, especially dark hues, it is destroying our purificators. No amount of “oxiclean,” bleach, and scrubbing can erase the damage from lipstick stains. Please help us take special care of these fine and delicate linens. If wearing lipstick, please opt to receive Communion in the form of the host and not the cup.

2017 FRIENDS OF THE POOR WALK All are welcome to put on their walking shoes and join us for the 2017 Friends of the Poor Walk to raise awareness and funds for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Sponsored walkers will start in the parking lot at St. Lucie Catholic Church, walk two miles along Prima Vista to Bayshore Boulevard and back at the Church. For more information and to register please contact Rosemary Konas at [email protected] or (772) 882-8777. Funds raised from this walk will benefit the work of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul ministry at the Church.
