All parishioners are encouraged to celebrate the Mass of Remembrance on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at 11:00 AM in the Parish Hall. There will not be a reception this year due to renovations in the church since the Parish Hall will be set for Masses during November.
PRAYER REQUESTS Please pray for the deceased of the parish especially Frank Spacil, who died recently. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Please remember in your Masses and prayers, the sick whose names have been placed before our altar this week. If possible, try to participate in one of our Masses to join fellow worshipers in praying for them.

REGISTERING FROM PEW ENVELOPES We are grateful that the white pew envelopes are being used for those who forget their offertory envelopes, but for new parishioners requesting “I want to register” located on the envelope, please provide a legible phone number in addition to your name(s) and address so that you may be contacted. Be sure to PRINT. We do our best to contact you to complete your registration. Sometimes we begin this process and send you the paperwork to complete and return to us. If you receive such paperwork, PLEASE return it to the Parish Office or drop it in to any offertory basket. Use of a pew envelope does not mean you are necessarily registered, even if you use them often. If a donor wants contributions to be recorded, they need to be posted to an account number that belongs to the donor. If there is a question regarding your registration status, please phone the Parish Office at 878-1215 and we will be glad to check!

GIVE CARE NOT CASH As the season gets busier, the traffic of panhandlers becomes heavier at Saint Lucie Church. We serve many in our community through the generosity of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, our Thursday evening Soup Kitchen, and various assistance throughout the year. Our concerns are always to have no one go hungry. Unfortunately, there are those who have become chronic abusers and they tend to approach the parishioners pleading for a cash handout. Although their stories are often convincing and well-rehearsed, we must never hand someone cash! This jeopardizes our community making it all the easier for these practices to continue on vulnerable parishioners. The simple truth is that giving cash to panhandlers doesn’t help. Many only desire to support their addictions – drugs, alcohol and tobacco. Although we ask that you not hand out cash, please continue to care. Support our St. Vincent de Paul Society; they are experts in getting food, diapers, clothing to those in need. Continue to bring nonperishables to our church pantry helping us to feed the hungry. If you must take immediate action yourself, consider carrying “food bars”, easy-to-carry nutrition to share. Or perhaps you might consider purchasing a gift card from Publix or Walmart with the phrase “not to be used on tobacco, alcohol or lottery” and bring it to the Parish Office. Saint Lucie Parishioners are the kindest of people with giving hearts. Don’t change! Just alter your method of helping.

VISIT TO ST. MARY’S CHURCH IN PAHOKEE
On Wednesday October 25, fifteen members of our church went to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pahokee Florida. Mass was celebrated at 11:00 AM, presided by Fr. Raciel Treveno from Indiantown. Assisting as altar server with Father Raciel was Edward Essayan. Larry and Mary Ellen Williams presented the gifts. After Mass, Larry Williams directed the group in praying the rosary. Of course, the highlight of the trip was viewing the beautiful Russian icon of the Blessed Mother named Mother of Bethlehem, who is well known for her healing powers. Frania Lakios, the St. Mary's office manager, gave us a complete tour of the church, the statues, icons and chapel. Many visitors purchased items from gift store and participated in a pot luck lunch. If you missed this trip, be sure to come with us next year.
CHURCH PEWS AND CARPET REPLACEMENT
UPDATE
This is what our church looked like on November 2. Our contractors are moving right along. The old pews were donated and quickly picked up, so we can focus on the big job ahead. We will keep you posted on the progress in future bulletins. Thank you again for your patience and understanding. Remember, “Blessed are the flexible, for they shall never be bent out of shape.”
