The Sacrament of Marriage is celebrated after a period of preparation of no less than six months. Registered parishioners who wish to marry at St. Joseph’s are invited to contact one of the priests during regular weekday office hours before making any other arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated, except during Lent, on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Please call the Parish Office to schedule an appointment with one of the priests. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available at any time to any Catholic over the age of reason who is seriously ill, preparing for surgery or suffering the effects of age. The priests of the parish regularly celebrate the Eucharist and administer the sacrament of the sick at the area nursing homes; lay ministers lead services and bring communion to the residents every Sunday.

O blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of thy chaste spouse, the virgin Mother of God, I choose thee this day to be my special patron and advo-cate and I firmly resolve to honor thee all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly beseech thee to receive me as thy client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen

The New Church of St. Joseph Preserving the Past, Preparing for the Future
Many folks have asked the priests to identify the statues in the church. Listed below is a short bio on each one. I hope this will help clear up any confusion. On the right as you enter the church: Saint Patrick (385-461) Feast Day - March 17 Patron of the Archdiocese of New York. Known as the apostle of Ireland, born in Britain, possibly Wales. At the age of 16, he was kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland. During this period he learned the Celtic language and converted to the Catholic faith. He fled to France and later returned to Ireland where he was ordained a priest and later served as a bishop. Saint John the Baptist His birth is celebrated on June 24. Patron of our former chapel in North Salem. Known as the precursor of Christ, John baptized the Lord at the river Jor-dan and spent his life baptizing and preaching repentance. His martyrdom for the faith is reported in Mark’s Gospel. Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton (1774-1821) Feast Day - January 4 This saint was a wife, mother and the foundress of a religious community known as the Sisters of Charity. She was born in New York City, the daughter of a prominent physician. A convert to Catholicism after her husband died, she founded a school for girls in Baltimore which ultimately became the foundation for what would become the American parochial school system.
On the left as you enter the church: Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini (1850-1917) Feast Day - November 13 Mother Cabrini, as she is affectionately known, is the first citizen of the United States to be a canonized saint. She was born in Italy and despite her frail health started a religious community known as the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart. In 1889, Pope Leo XIII asked her to go to the United States to serve the Italian immigrant population. Shortly after her arrival, she opened an orphanage and a school, the first of 67 institutions. She became a naturalized citizen in 1909. Saint Michael the Archangel - Feast Day - Sept 29 Patron of our former chapel in Golden’s Bridge. His name means, “Who is like God?” Biblical references can be found in the Book of Daniel and the Book of Revelation. His cult became widespread around 663. Saint Ann - Feast Day – July 26 The wife of Joachim and the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There is no mention of her in sacred scripture and most of the information about her has been gathered from the literature of the day. She is greatly venerated in Canada with a basilica in her honor in Quebec. The church in Manhattan that housed the stained glass and marble that graces our new church was named in her honor. Hopefully in the not too distant future we will provide you with a further explanation of the beautiful windows that are installed in the church. Richard Casterella 914-232-2910/[email protected]

A note from The Little Sisters of the Poor April 9, 2016 Dear Fr. Lagiovane, Thank you so much for your kind hospitality on March 12th & 13th this year. We had full run of the rectory, with the “key to the Kingdom!” It really is nice to have a place to go between the Masses and Sr. Maria Carmen, Mary Banaghan and I thank you for that. Fr. Caruso looked out for us on Sunday and we thoroughly en-joyed our luncheon treat! Hope we didn’t spend too much of your budget on our meal!! (The gentleman at the restaurant could not have been nicer.) And, of course the food was fantas-tic. This years’ collection totaled $10,115.00! Your parishioners continue to be so generous to us. Please tell them how very grateful we are for their support of our work with the elderly. They truly showed us “Mercy” this year and we are so appre-ciative. Assure them that we will continue to keep them and the intentions they confided to us in our prayers. As usual, I am a little late at sending this thank you out...please excuse the tardiness, and know of our sincere gratitude for your kindness. Gratefully in Christ, Sister Mary John, 1.s.p.

Spirituality Seminar Series Church of St. Joseph
The next seminar of the season will be on Friday, May 13, 2016. The seminar leader will be Msgr. Joseph Martin. Msgr . Mar tin’s presentation will deal with:
"Mysticism is where religions start,” writes Frederick Buechner. Moses with his flocks in Midian, Jesus in the waters of the Jordan, each of them responding to something of which words like Shalom, Oneness, God even are only pallid souvenirs. Religion as eth-ics, institution, dogma, ritual, Scripture, social action, all of this comes later. Religion starts, as Robert Frost said poems do, with a lump in the throat, or a bush going up in flames, a rain of flowers, a dove coming out of the sky. "I have seen things, Thomas Aquinas told a friend, "that make all my writings seem like straw." Most people have also seen such things. Through some moment of beauty or pain, some sudden turning of their lives, most of them have caught glimmers at least of what the saints are blinded by. Only then, unlike the saints, they tend to go on as though nothing has happened. We are more mystics than we choose to let on, even to ourselves."
After Msgr. Martin’s ordination in 1967 he was a Parochial Vicar at St. Patrick's Yorktown Heights NY, for l0 years and taught Religion at J.F.K. High School, Somers. He then served as Vocation Direc-tion For Archdiocese for 2 years, Spiritual Director at St Joseph's seminary in Yonkers, N.Y for 9 years, Director of Parish Mission Team for the Archdiocese for 6 years, Pastor of St. Mary's in Fishkill 18 years, now retired he is a priest in residence at St. James in Carmel for the past 3 years, still giving Parish Mis-sions. Please mark your calendar; the date of the last seminar for the 2016 season is June 10, 2016. The presenter will be Fr. Jude Aguwa. Seminars are scheduled on Friday and begin with the 9:00 AM Mass in the chapel; it continues in the Parish Center with a con-tinental breakfast and the presentation followed by lunch.
Pre-registration is helpful in planning for each ses-sion, in order to provide for the appropriate number of lunches. The cost for each session is $10.
