Dear Parishioners,
This weekend we celebrate a solemnity that is celebrated on June 24 every year, no matter the day of
the week: The Nativity of St. John the Baptist. Before he was born, while he was still in his mother’s
womb, John the Baptist was chosen by God to prepare the world for Jesus Christ. Traditionally, a
saint’s day is celebrated on the anniversary of their death, since that day is their birthday into eter-
nal life, but we celebrate his feast day on the day of his birth instead. St. Luke writes that John the
Baptist was filled with the Holy Spirit in his mother’s womb, but we also received the Holy Spirit
when we were baptized. We also hear today from Isaiah in the first reading, a prophet also called by
the Lord before he was born. We ourselves were not called by God in such a dramatic way, but by
virtue of our baptism, each of us also shares in Christ’s mission. Today as we remember and cele-
brate the birth of St. John the Baptist, let us recall our own baptism, our initiation in the Christian
faith, and the mission God has for us!
Have a blessed week!

The Sign Of The Cross Each time we make the sign of the Cross, we remember the
mystery of the Most Holy Trinity.
In the name of the Father: w e put our hands on our
foreheads, pointing to the brain that controls our whole body,
remembering that God is the source of life. And of the Son: w e place the hand betw een the chest
and the abdomen near the heart, remembering that for love of
us Jesus Christ incarnated, died and resurrected to free us
from sin. And of the Holy Spirit: w e place the hand on the left
shoulder and then on the right; remembering that it helps us
to carry the weight of our life and at the same time it
enlightens us.
Clean Cupboards Clean Hearts
The Clean Cupboards/Clean Hearts ministry at St Joseph’s
Church assists the St Vincent DePaul/St Peter Claver Church
Food Pantry by providing foods for distribution. Please place
your donations in the marked boxes in the church on June
30th and July 1st. The pantry has had wonderful generous
donations this year but the need is very great this summer. We
would like to continue providing the same quality and quanti-
ty of food for those we serve and really need your help. Canned
soups, boxed pasta, sauces, canned fruits and cereals are espe-
cially needed this month. There are always requests for cream
corn, and canned peaches. Please be mindful that all items are
factory sealed and are within the “used by” date.
Thank you to the many of you who generously support this
ministry. Your contributions have made a difference in the
lives of so many. May God bless you and your family.

Mass Etiquette And Dress
With the arrival of summer, please remember to dress modest-
ly for Mass. If we were invited to a gala event, we wouldn’t
dress as though we were going to the beach. Christ Himself has
invited us to partake in the sacred banquet of the Eucharist.
Our attire and our reverent actions should reflect where we are
and Whose we are. Dressing extremely informally or revealing
is distracting and disrespectful. Dressing up for Mass is
certainly not “out of date.” Parents should also monitor their
children’s dress for Mass. Always remember to be clean, neat,
and modest when attending Mass.
Sistine Chapel Choir
We are excited to welcome the Sistine Chapel Choir, the Pope’s
choir, for their much-anticipated U.S. National Tour! Atlanta
is the first stop on their U.S. tour beginning at The Fox Theatre
on July 3, 2018. Serving as the Pope’s personal choir, the 1500
-year old Sistine Chapel Choir is the oldest and most respected
active choir in the world today. Through its liturgical music,
the choir communicates a message of peace and closeness
among all people. This is the choir’s first performance ever in
Atlanta and first U.S. National Tour. The Atlanta-based
Georgia Boy Choir will open the evening with a special perfor-
mance. Tickets are available SistineChapelChoirTour.com or
foxtheatre.org.
The bulletin deadline is 10 days prior to the date you need your article to appear. All items received after
the deadline will go into the next bulletin. Submissions should be emailed to: [email protected].
