Dear Parishioners, St. Paul mentions in his letter to the Philippians, which we read today, “Humbly regard others as more

important than yourselves, each looking out not for his or her own interests, but also for those of

others.” This is a teaching that Christ lived in a beautiful, loving, and perfect way, and it is a way of life

that we should strive to emulate. By our very nature, we seek to protect our own lives, but it is heroic to

lay down our lives for another person, especially one we do not know or do not agree with. In recent weeks with the numerous natural disasters, we have heard and read stories of people who have

placed the lives of others before their own comforts; helping others to clean out their flood damaged

homes, giving others a place to stay for the night, or digging people out from under the rubble of an

earthquake. Life is precious and we should value it at all stages: from the moment a person is conceived

in its mother’s womb, to the moment that that person naturally passes on to their eternal reward. We

love the great beauty that God gives us through life and may we value it with the love of our Heavenly

Father. Feel free to join us as we participate in the Life Chain this Sunday, October 1st, in support of life

at its early stages. In addition, for our Senior Citizens (55 and older), we will have a Senior Mass this

Tuesday at 11:30am followed by a luncheon. Have a wonderful and blessed week! Fr. Winchel
